LBY is a huge risk. He has many enemies both within his own family and in the imperial court. He might be powerful…
Everyone present at that banquet was ashamed of Xuan Yi and her behavior to her daughter. No one for any reason should say such demeaning and cruel words to and about their child. "She is ignorant, rude, cunning, scheming, worthless, and not worthy of LBY; if she wasn't my daughter I definitely wouldn't let her into the Cheng family" Whaaaaat? and that's just a summary of a ll the horrible things she said. Even the dad who was also trying to get the engagement stopped was shocked by the things she said. The Emperor was teary eyed and indignant at the words, which is even why he asked CSS what her opinion was cause clearly if her mom is talking all this crap about her she shouldn't be deciding for her

I do love how LBY answered OF COURSE to CSS' question, like it was a no-brainer 🥰
Mans said of course I would still marry you!!! Ugh so sweet

You know what's amusing? We praise and laugh that the emperor loves/adores LBY so much and essentially is the mascot…
Nope his relationship does not mirror. The Emperor does not mistreat or constantly put down his kids for LBY. He loves them BOTH and treats BOTH his kids and LBY nicely. If the Emperor were truly biased he would have made LBY a prince to compete with his actual kids. The Emperor said it himself in today's episodes - he cares for LBY cause of the death of his sworn brother Huo, but how can LBY compare to his actual kids. THIS is the difference, Xuan Yi behaves unnaturally to break a perceived bias. She doesn't want people to say she sent Lady Ge away and is now favoring her daughter over Yang Yang; but now rather than being even, she is being extremely biased against her own daughter.

The things she does to CSS are unnatural and excessive, sometimes bordering on childish and petty. For example the scene she was sick and CSS & YY were taking care of her, she could have accepted both their care and been happy but noooo she had to sad horrid things to put down CSS who was taking care of her. CSS doesn't care about her mom caring for YY, heck CSS herself loves YY and always sticks up for her. The problem CSS has is her mom's disregard for her and mistreating her in favor of YY. If she would treat them equally CSS would be fine as she never even grew up being doted on so she wouldn't care.

He didn’t praise for long but his statement was quality opposing to quantity.
His statement was everything - " She is pure and decisive, willing to love and hate, She is the only one worthy to walk along me in life; in this life I will marry her and no one else". LY also saw the good in CSS. It is so important to be with someone that can look pass your flaws, embrace them, and help turn them into positives.

Even the grandmother who maltreated CSS would never publicly humiliate CSS and make her worthless like that. Cause I mean what about CSS future, if you her mother says such horrid things about her, who would want to marry or associate with her anymore.

I was hurt to. I know she did it because she wanted to save her but I can tell she truly meant those things from…
The thing is, if she wanted to "save" her like you say, there was no reason to be this extreme. She abandoned her daughter and feels guilty about it and such feels the need to over do things now and make decisions for her. She tries to play on CSS intelligence, CSS even mentioned it, when she was trying to be with LY her mom kept bringing up LBY and how she should give him a chance. Now LBY comes to propose and her next thing is my daughter is worthless and isn't worthy of LBY.

No matter if we know that the mother actually does love CSS, her heart is on the wrongest of places - she TRULY does not see the good in CSS and that is her fatal flaw as a mother.

I think that Lady Luo (5th princess aide) is the woman that will get engaged to LBY towards the end of his exile…
You're very correct. He engages her as an excuse to come back to Ruyang

Today's episodes revealed so much about the characters.

Episode 23 was pretty hilarious, especially with CSS in the palace. There is a lot more behind the story of Gu City than we were aware of, seems as though someone was jealous of the achievements of the Huo family and deliberately left them for dead. (I like how the show is taking this).

Episode 24 - I cried so much for so many different reasons - what a rollercoaster. I was happy when Zisheng showed up to save her from falling on the broken glass. This episode revealed one thing that makes CSS accept her suitors - they see the good in her.

Her mom totally disgraced and humiliated her today in front of everyone. No matter how much you were trying to get out of the engagement it could have been done without making CSS worthless publicly. I know her mom loves her, but her heart and expressions are definitely in the strangest of places. She had no regard for CSS's reputation or future by shaming her publicly like that.

The relationship between mother and daughter seems more antagonistic in the show than in the book, there are certain interactions in the early chapters of the book you can say are both their faults or even CSS's fault e.g. purposely wearing a plain green dress to the lantern festival as opposed to the beautiful red brocade her mom bought for her and Yang Yang.

The interactions in episode 24 are definitely the straw that broke the camel's back in their mother-daughter relationship, everyone was so shocked and uncomfortable to see a mother put her daughter down like that publicly, heck even the Empress looked so sad for CSS.

Funny enough if mom hadn't shamed CSS like that LBY wouldn't have gotten a chance to confess just how much he loves CSS and how he sees her as "pure and decisive, willing to love and hate, the only one worthy of walking along him in the journey of life". It's these words that made CSS take the risk and dive in. Her own mother never has one good thing to say about her, even as a joke or lie but yet these two men LY and LBY are able to see the good in her and appreciate her.

As the show goes on we are beginning to see a manifestation of what CSS said in the earlier episodes, she is good to those who are good to her and treats those who are bad to her accordingly.

There is a saying/song " If you can't be with the one you love... Love the one you're with. " They would have…
Lol per the book YS is actually the worst of the three they're not good together at all. He actually falls in love with her but CSS never reciprocates and she treats their engagement like a business deal of sorts.

Yes of course LBY is a better match, but nothing in my comment indicated that LY was better than LBY for CSS. My point was that if they didn't break up and LBY never got a chance CSS and LY would've been just fine. Would not be a passionate burning romance to stand the test of time like she will have with LBY, but it will be pretty good between them, and that's my point.

TBH they would have been just fine together. They were two souls that knew how to appreciate each other, embrace the other's faults and turn them into positives. Their break up scene helped me realize that, yes they may have struggled a bit as they grew but at the core of their relationship they understood each other so well and their relationship would have blossomed.

I disagree but okie
It was long winded IMO, I found it funny and endearing how much he worries about LBY but those scenes took up a great part of the latter half of the episode from the 27th minute till pretty much the end leading up to YSS. just felt like it was a bit of a filler to push the meeting of LBY and CSS & her dad to the next episode

Funny enough it just seems to be a coincidence, I think LBY was investigating the people talking about overthrowing…
Might be the supporters of the Third Prince, one of which we saw in the scene where they discuss whether or not to send LBY to fight Prince Yong

yeah , from the mv of an ost i noticed part 1 is rather lighter than part 2 in terms of angsty . part 1 is nothing…
Same, I just keep thinking their brief moments give me so much joy and the break up scene with CSS and LY actually brought me to tears. I don't even want to imagine how heart wrenching part 2 will be.
