Title Why R U?
I rated it a seven because it was badly done but the actors were good and deserved better. It was filmed during…
Basically, the only way to see real BL relationships is to watch gay films. But those are most often drama queen works where everything is sad and tragic, or super boring prententious arthouse stuff.

My dream of finding series with realistic portrayals of relationships might never come true because the core audience does not want that or at least not used to it.

Imagine the typical GMMTV viewers’ shock if they will see that the first thing lads do, even if they even slightly like each other and read that they can proceed, is not a kiss, but other fun things, and do it repeatedly as often as possible. And they would not talk about being in love or boyfriends until some time later, MAYBE.

Zee and Saint (Fighter+Tutor) in Why R U were great together and I enjoyed the acting and chemistry. Zee was so…
Oh yes.

For example, TharnType from that universe got lots of hate because of the toxicity of Tharn.

But my point is that toxic characters are most often real. There are actual people who do act like that. Why series can not explore it? Yes, ideally for some, there maybe should be a moral lesson in the series, but people supposedly have heads on their shoulders and can use it for thinking themselves (a shocker, I know), so I am not seeing this issue as some cardinal sin.

I do not even find Type’s character toxicity, which is in his always angry and soon-to-be angry modus operandi, as cruicial. I only know I would not be able to live with such a person, but this is just my personal taste.

I am more annoyed about mundane scenario issues where things happen that are not really believable. Lots of series have that.

In regards to reading novels, it is not my thing, so I can not comment. I only know that Stay With Me series (a fuller and softer version of Addicted!) is still not covering everything, but the final novel story that is missing goes insane and basically impossible to adapt in this format. But I am not attached to the story so much that I would read the novel. (Though it is hard to read long things for me due to some issues I have anyway.)

I found My Stand-In series. Is this the one you mean?

The sound effects are more cringy than cute.

But I like more mature display of fun in this show and series like Love By Chance in comparison to GMMTV series, where everyone is basically abstinent and celibate, and lots of series have one kiss as the only thing that happens.

But this is just my personal taste because others say they that more mature intimate scenes are just soft core pron as they only want to see the “purest” platonic love, and not anything physiological and related to the reality of relationships.

Though even this series specifically, of course, is pretty ridiculous in relationship display because lots of males, including Saint’s character, are written as females, so they are not behaving like males at all (even receiving males are still males and they need intimacy no less than givers).

I am finding your comments by accident, though maybe it is possible via profiles. I am still new to this application, so I am not sure.

I did not see anything with NuNew yet, so I might want to check the couple’s early work to see if I like them or not to get to this series, thanks for the explanation of this matter.

Most of BL series I watched were “toxic” in one way or another because even the core staple of this fantasy genre is toxic.

Namely, that straight males can discover their gayness at any point way after puberty, which is not a thing at all, and is no different from the “you just did not meet the right lass yet” talk some parents give when their sons say they are not interested in girls. In the BL genre, it seems to be an unavoidable fantasy cliche I do not like at all.

And, of course, protagonists of lots of series are literal criminals in how they pursue their love interests, and it is all fine in the genre.

If you are into more toxic things, then maybe you might like Chinese adaptations of a controversial novelist (sorry, forgot her name). Her work was first adapted into Addicted! series about a decade ago, but it was censored and abandoned. Then she has softened the scenario to be less toxic into Stay With Me series, which has had superb production values and a great show, if you can ignore the negative elements she is criticised for, as well as the absurdly dramatic ending. The same can be said about this year’s Revenged Love series, which was adapted from a different novel of hers.

In Thai BL Theory of Love from 2019 is both unusual and toxic because it shows a masochist character, which is, unfortunately, realistic as it happens offscreen.

I also liked Why R U? because it is unique with its playing on the genre cliches, starting right from the core principle of everybody all of a sudden becoming gay as soon as the BL mode is turned on. So funny to see lads who hate each other, and in real life that is just real hate and nothing else, turning into lads in the denial of love.

He was so cute in the OST for bad buddy i just had to check him out. What a cutie 🥰
Why did not he play in Bad Buddy and other BL series? He is cute, but I am only seeing him in Why R U, which is not enough.

Did you watch the last two episodes?

Maybe you will adjust your rating.

I found this series because I am seeing Zee for the first time now in series Why R U. He is super cute, but I wonder if he and other lads would save this series from, as people say, bad writing.

If the couples act cute, then I can survive, but is this the case?

The STORYTELLING is weird.

Now, a year before, six months later, etc. I wish the director would have chosen more elegant ways.

What violence? You mean in the scenarios?
Oh yes on the free ride. As soon as StateDept has decided to make Tibet a political thing back in the 1990s, lots of US actors have suddenly felt the need to indicate they are into this “current thing”, and Hollywood has started to produce propaganda films etc. Same goes for every other political issue (the media are lying about it as a rule). And, of course, it is in every country, though on lesser scale.

The link did not work for me, but your explanation might be already sufficient, thanks.

Public figures taking public stances about political issues can be both brave, inspiring, and a sad showcase of not very smart, clueless people trying to virtue signal. My hope is that this case is the former, not the latter.

Sometimes production team write women to be hate-bait and even choose actresses that are not that great looking.…
And it got to the GL genre, too, I suppose. Ugly and annoying male side characters tamper with GL fun, and the leading pairs are contractually obligated to offscreen play girlfriends with a lass that their agency has chosen even though nearly none of the lasses are lesbian at all. As a male, I am still not fine with this.

I am personally not that against the role-playing for public as a PR and fan service, but I became uncomfortable about this knowing that lots of people think of it as “real” and that some people in those couples actually hate it. Though my compassion to them is limited since all of those actors knew the deal beforehand, they are doing all of this to get fame and money.

So my only hope is that most of the pairs are genuinely do not mind kinship, even though the partners are not homosexual or bisexual at all. They look at it as the kinship in Latin America countries where even males kiss each other as friends just fine (though not with tongues etc), all of the petting and body contact is not sexual whatsoever.
ACTORS SAVE THE SERIES. Plan, Perth etc are so adorable and cute that not only this season is watchable, despite the weirdest storytelling decisions of all time, but it even has a rewatch value simply because of the adorable characters the actors portray. They are very huggable, you just want to pet them, they force you smile.

I could be wrong but I believe Mame licensed the rights to LBC novels to another entity and then created her own…
Wow, thanks for the expertise. Because innocent bystanders like myself can not possibly understand the sins of the licensing and production mess. This is too much since they have even forced the same actors replay their own roles from LBC again in LBC 2. I am not sure this was ever done anywhere in the world in any two series. It was probably due to something weird with licensing because I find no other sane explanation.

Sadly, the audience treats BL genre as if it not a fantasy genre it actually is. Too many people are clueless even about the fact that almost none of the BL industry actors are gay, so the ships they are shipping as “real” are not possible to begin with. Those fans do not care about the reality of the leading actors they are fan of, let alone female side characters.

Thanks. Let’s hope those are consistent because I am now watching Love By Chance, TharnType and their sequels universe, and it was handled poorly as many characters either get recast or disappear between the series.

Why the poor lad is not getting good scenarios, though? Newrly all of series he has ever done get 6-7 rating, which is sad. I want to see him in a truly good project.

Sometimes production team write women to be hate-bait and even choose actresses that are not that great looking. There must be a law or something to force the studios to pay them big money for the moral damage they get by signing up to those roles.
