For me the story after the flashback is better (33-50th ep) it's the point where you actually binge watch. If…
I'm not sure if i'll be able to watch all 33 episodes in hope of getting into it, haha. But i'll be trying a little bit more... Thanks for your reply !

It's slow at the start but picks up around ep 15 (kind of the norm for such a lengthy drama). I like it because…
I think i'll keep trying a little bit but this feels sooooo long to me. Thanks for replying !

First time hearing about The World Between Us. Seems very interesting ! I'm trying to get into The Untamed but i can't get past the 7th episode... How do all of you guys like it ? I don't get it. I want to understand. I'm so bored.

I think i've picked my kdrama pretty badly. Well, i was quite busy and didn't want to get too much into a drama that would be so good i won't be able to stop (and stop studying instead), so it may have been my fault.

I definitely loved Stranger From Hell, and i still have to finish it, but I extremely LOVED The Nokdu Flower. I'm surprised it's not in list of most of people, but I guess i need to check out other dramas on those list. I especially want to watch The fiery priest, that i avoided because i had just watched The guest and didn't want to compare, but i guess the genre is too different for them to be compared anyway.

Be Melodramatic was nice. I also enjoyed Moment at eighteen, even if i think sometimes the way character's were acting was a bit weird, i loved the direction. Hotel del luna... If not for that ending, it wouldn't be on my favorite list, but i loved how they didn't force an unrealistic ending, which is the case for most of those dramas, so I guess it would be on my list too.

I'm adding Confession to my "plan to watch list", it seems interesting. I am for sure going to watch The Fiery priest, because i've heard too many good things about this drama anyway, and i'm waiting to be in need of a cute rom-com to watch Touch your heart. I LOVE ROMCOM WITHOUT ANNOYING PLOT.

I've watched 15 out of them, and enjoyed them a lot, but they honestly do not reflect the variety and quality…
I just added Byplayers and Princess Maison to my "to watch list" because of you haha.

But yeah i agree, i mean, if it's what people like, we can't blame it, but it's too bad that this doesn't show the variety and quality of jdramas. I also think Nigehaji and Kazoku Game would have been in mine, the rest though (i haven't watch Ouroboros)... Plus honestly, a jdrama list, without Sakamoto Yuji's dramas... HOW ??? How ?

I definitely think a 2000-2009 video would make sens for jdramas at least. I also feel like it could maybe show a little bit more variety of genre... or maybe not, i'm not sure. But it definitely would be interesting.

It honestly looks like a cool movie, but it's hard to watch it RAW because they use a dialect. If ever it get translated, tell me please !

I can't speak for others but for me, part of the appeal is he was one of the first Japanese directors I actually…
Yeaaaah... Netflix are so bad at choosing movies...

Hope i'm not too late, but it's called The Forest of Love !

I've just watched Exte... It was actually quite fun ! I mean of course, far from being one of my favorite Sono Sion, but i was never bored, which i didn't expect. I'm happy to have watched it now. But yeah, i was never interested in extensions... Don't think i'll ever be now !

Yes i also think revenge kind of fit in... at least few of Sono Sion's movies ! Seems like it for Exte too !
I'll tell you my opinion after watching it !

Haha after reading your review + getting out of nowhere a youtube recommendation of an Exte cut, i kinda want to watch it now. I think i might actually watch it. It's making me curious !

Haha he did a lot of short film, especially at the start of his career, since no one wanted to invest in his movie. I think you can find a few of them on the youtube channel aSionSonofilm. Actually i have no idea why i said revenge, since I was thinking mainly on his Hate ( Love and perversion) trilogy, which are definitely some of his most popular movies. I'm very interest in what you will think of Tag though.

He might be different than what you're expecting, since... well, it's hard to summarise him with a genre, but I definitely wouldn't call it horror, but i think you will probably like it.

I will check out more of Miike's work for sure ! :)

Haha, still, I think I will give it a try to Exte one day, out of curiosity, but i still have few of his first short movie to watch ! I've only read bad things about this movie, so it's always interesting to find someone who was able to enjoy Exte. I think you might be right about "those who found him before might not enjoy it much". Because he's mainly popular for his deep revenge movies. Tag at the opposite, in my opinion might not be the best for a first-timer with Sono's. Definitely not my favorite, but it was such a nicesurprise for me who had NO EXPECTATION before starting the movie. I'd be very interested to read your article on Sono Sion's if you ever do one.

It's really nice to hear your opinion on Miike and what you like about him. It definitely makes me want to check more of his stuff, even if it might not be to my taste. I think i understand a bit more the hype behind the man. I think while watching his movies, i was probably searching for something deeper, which made it a disappointment to me. I will definitely pay more attention to the special effects next time !

I think one of the reason why i might not be into it, is because his movies are basically gore, but I don't see much of a message behind. (Not saying it's true, but more about how I see it). With Sono Sion's the message is pretty clear, and if you're confused during all the movie, you get it at the end (Tag is a good exemple of that). It's true that his gore is definitely over the top, but I guess it's the reason why I like it. I'm not a gore fan, I just like the euphoristic freedom in Sono Sion's movie, that comes also in the form of gross unrealistic stuffs.
I actually haven't watch Exte because it looks like i won't like it hahaha. I think we probably just have very different kind of taste in movies (BUT I STILL RECOMMEND HIS MOVIES !).
I still understand what you mean for Miike. I think their style are definitely very different (even Sono Sion's couldn't understand why he was being compared to Miike all the time), Miike's are definitely more realistic than Sono's who are over-the-top. And to me (you might disagree?), Miike's violence is mainly for entertainment, Sono's violence is more about provoking people so he can covey a message.

But yeah, definitely, DM me ! If i can without mush research maybe it will motivate me ! Thank you :)

I'm not really a Takashi Miike's fan, I've tried to watch a lot of his movies because he gets compared to Sono Sion's a lot, whose probably my favorite director (with Bong Joon Ho?). But I don't really get the appeal. In this list, i've watched Lesson of the evil, Audition, One Missed Call and Crows Zero... And i hope i won't die before watching Ichi the killer, which has been on my "to watch list" for years ! Not sure if i'll find it to my taste though.

Interesting article anyway ! I'm always happy to read more about japanese directors.

If i had to do mine (i mean most favorite, not "most popular") maybe it will be something like (no order) : My Mister, Misaeng, White Christmas, Signal, The Bridal Mask, The Nokdu Flower, Strangers from hell, Just Dance, The Guest, Age of Youth, Circle, Girl's Generation 1979, Eulachacha Waikiki, Prison Playbook, Reply 1997, Reply 1994, Reply 1988, Save me, Mirror of the witch, Shopping King Louie, Queen In Hyun's man, Solomon's Perjury, The Producers, Go back couple, Moment at eighteen

For Matrimonial Chaos, I never really got into it, and end up dropping it after a while. I really recommend the original version, the japanese drama Saikou no Rikon, written by Sakamoto Yuji (who also wrote dramas like Mother, Soredemo ikite yuku)...
Might be a question of taste but one of the most touching and hilarious drama at the same time. I think the korean version lost its original flavor, so... yeah, i definitely recommend it.

I really need to watch Avengers Social Club one day though ! Wish i would have done it before the end of the decade, but i guess it will wait next year !

Oh, she was on that list? As if being a female actor over a certain age isn't hard enough in terms of acting opportunities…
Yes, her, and her husband (the one who directed Hwayi actually) are both on this list. I think it's not so much on opportunities to find a project but more on how the government try anything to stop the project because of the blacklisting. It is really bad.

Oh, I'm so happy to see Himizu in this list. Definitely one of my favorite. I rarely re-watch movies, but this is one movie that I've watched and re-watched a few times.
Oasis is also amazing, and surprisingly not that well-known. I really recommend it. I was able to meet Moon Sori two years ago, who is an actress who was on Park Geun Hye's blacklist. She's an amazing and engaged person. Because of the blacklisting, she doesn't appear as much in projects, but she's a wonderful actress, as shown in Oasis.
