It’s when FFB looked for TSJ and wanted to trade something with TSJ for his goods to be sent to QingShui town. He mentioned using XY. TSJ refused to use XY as the trade but instead he offered that he will repay on behalf of XY to FFB for his teaching of archery. To FFB/XL, everything is easier when it’s a trade, so in this arrangement, XL can no longer hold XY of his mentorship.
I don’t agreed it’s the intention of FFB, but TSJ just made that offer of repayment so XY don’t owe XL at all. 😅.

Not that I can recall in season 1 that there was such trading happening. There is only one trade that happened and WXL was involved but nothing on TSJ asking XL to teach her archery. That’s just made up. The archery skills was XL’s idea to strengthen XY’s ability to protect to protect herself.
