I feel that Jin Yong always want to express depth in his characters, on the theme that no one is perfect, good guys are weird and bad guys can be empathize.
Yang Guo has severe need for motherly love, and his obsession with “GuGu” is just weird.

Ah…I guess Jin Yong reflected about YK’s character and decided to give him a little more decency in character and made him loyal to love😅. Interesting…

I agreed with you on the description about Guo Jing, he is definitely not dumb, he is just very naive and simple minded, he doesn’t assume the worst of people and he is very very loyal to Huang Rong. He wouldn’t be able to master all the skills if he is dumb. I personally want to credit his mother who really is a great lady, she has good clarity and knew she should never be a burden to her son and took the courage to end her own life.
