This drama may be fictional, but totally admire the production team effort to showcase how a traditional imperial examination will look like, such details. This was a very important part of most scholars in ancient China, it is not just a road to wealth, honor, dreams and hope, it’s life changing and most can live all their life to take this exam. Noticed once the banner was up, some of the old seniors scholars just collapsed, a sad but real state written in history at that time. Hence it’s definitely a needed arc when we discussed palace politics and its corruption.
#35 Question: was there a time slip? Seems like WJL suffered a gunshot wound (as seen on his uniform). Who shot…
There wasnt any gun shot wound, the blood on WDB’s uniform is from his girlfriend he killed, and he is still poisoned, so he looked terrible, but definitely not wounded yet.
Wow just watched this. Some of this element reminds me of the old school Hong Kong exorcism movie. Interesting to see it from a Korean culture perspective of ghost, zombie etc.
Great review! Totally agreed with you that this is an enjoyable drama. But I felt after Lucky and Liu Lin died, the treasure hunting mission just speed up and ended quickly. But I guess that’s the point of this drama, showing the main key characters learning journey. Quite disappointed with WDB’s arc, but probably his decision to die is to close of his character and not need to give him any redemption. I expected MSD and GeGe to also sacrifice but glad at least they survived.;)
Because he wants FX to take over that’s why he had him supervise LMC punishment. As FX said later, the emperor…
If you view it in the context that Qing Emperor himself was also brought up in that kind of environment, ‘the fittest survive’. hence a character of such will never be a good father, he is narcissist, paranoid and egoistic. He views everybody as pawn to meet his goal. And FX is very clear of that about Qing Emperor hence in S1, he never really wants to get involved.
Actually the only one of his four fathers who seems to consistently treat him as one is surely CPP. The Emperor's…
FJ - the over protective and fearful father, so doesn’t want his children to take risk. CPP - the secure father that will allow their children to take risk, yet be there to support and guide when needed. Emperor - the distant father that, throw the children out there, you swim you survive, you drown, you die; but will still mourn for you and blame you for not being strong enough😅.
BEWARE *** LOT OF MAJOR SPOILERS UNDER ***... and very long post !! 🫣🤪I believe the screenwriter and art…
Based on the pacing, I suspect the divine temple arc will be in S3. FX and DuoDuo are soulmates, they have a lot of admiration for each other but circumstances just won’t allow.
ZBF and HQ being kill by WDB’s army even after he decided to let go of his dream and to retreat with his G/F.…
I agreed with you. WDB has lost his track being a hero. I can understand that the script writer wants to show that he lost everything and only holding to his code of conduct but to also lost his moral compass and ignored his ‘gentleman’ promise pact, that made him worst than a villian.
I wonder, if this Emperor is so smart, intelligent and all powerful, how have he allowed his empire to become so corrupted, and lack of justice in so many aspects…and needing FX to make things right for him, these just reflect the failure management of this Emperor and his style of not caring for the country and people.
