I think this was done on purpose because at the end of the day, this show is about Dr. Cha finding her happiness…
I agree with that completely. I guess my expectations weren't high enough for the drama, nor my interest in Roy Kim as big enough to be disappointed by his lack of character development. Truth be told, I enjoyed Cha's story the most. Her children second. And although her toxic ex husband bothered me at the beginning, the writer did redeem him a bit towards the end. I guess I reviewed everyone as supporting characters from the beginning, which is why my disappointment wasn't as strong as many viewers.
Also, actor-wise, I'm a huge fan of Kim Byung Chul who is phenomenal vs Min Woo Hyuk who is a pretty face with the same weirdly fake expression in the several dramas I've seen him in. So I wasn't complaining because I saw hilarious scenes with an actor who can actually act vs a pretty face trying to act.

Exactly. Great writers focus on characterizations, plot points etc. This is not a show by a great writer nor was it intended to be. From the first episode I knew what the show was, it was about Dr. Cha. Everyone, from her kids, to her mother and mother-in-law, to her husband, her friend, the doctors at the hospital, it was obvious to me that they will be playing their role in HER journey as she finds herself. It was never a story about Cha + Kim. It was about Cha and only Cha. To me, this was never an ensemble show like The Good Bad Mother or Reply 1988 where good characterization was important for all the characters, because the spotlight was on Cha and only Cha.
I find the series to be realistic one where it reflects oriental women who lived in a toxic relationship for a…
Unfortunately, the admins marked this drama as romance which drew in the wrong viewers. Most wanted a revenge drama with Dr. Cha ending up with Roy Kim and they are disappointed they didn't get it (hence the 1/10 ratings). I would say this is a family, medical, comedy drama.

Most characters are plot devices though. This is not a great novel, so I never expected great characterisation from it tbh. It's a lighthearted kdrama meant for escapism. The cheating storyline, the abusive mother in law, the toxic husband was used as a comic exaggeration which is not what it would have been like in real life. As a result, I didn't really take this drama too seriously.
How's the romance so far? Any love triangles? I'm getting mixed signals here. The genre has romance first, there's…
In Season 1 they explain the reason for the title. Master Kim is called Dr. Romantic because he's got romantic notions regarding medicine and his patients. This is purely a medical drama with a little bit of romance on the side. The main romance happens in Season 1 and 2 but it's not the main genre.
Are you sure you watched the last episodes without skipping any scenes. In Ho meets his daughter (from Sung Hee)…
He also went whenever his ex-wife called. He didn't know why she wanted him and he went to her and did what she wanted.
I think they did a good job in showing that he is living amicably with both women, repenting for his actions by doing whatever they need, even though they are both done with him and they both have a bigger purpose than wanting to be with him. When Sung Hee met told her mother of the divorce, her expression was surprised because the mother wasn't affected by the news. She had wanted that for so long, but not anymore.
The writer did not develop the Roy Kim character. He just showed up at random, and said some dialog. As a main…
I think this was done on purpose because at the end of the day, this show is about Dr. Cha finding her happiness and purpose in life and that meant dealing with and accepting the end of her marriage in a civil manner. Even though Roy liked her, Dr. Cha never once looked at him romantically. She relied on him like a friend would.
If they had focused on him more, this story would have been about how Dr. Cha left her cheating asshole husband for another man. Instead, it's a story about a woman who left her cheating asshole husband to follow her dream.
I don’t think this drama deserves a 1/10, but definitely it had so much potential..last the ending was so flat…
I never trust 1/10 ratings tbh. 1/10 means, bad writing, bad editing, bad directing, bad acting and an overall bad production. And this drama was not that.
I knew a divide was coming with that ending.. phew.. quite a ride.. as much as I, the viewer wanted the hub, side…
I agree. In the end, Dr. Cha won. And that's all that matters. She has a good relationship with her children, her ex-husband and her ex-mother-in-law. She has a great relationship with her mother and her patients. She's living her best life, doing exactly what she wants, whenever she wants and no one resents her for it. She has achieved true happiness and purpose by not being a doormat she once was. I appreciated the character growth of all the characters we watched, actually.
do i need to watch season 1 & 2 before watching season 3? thank you
Honestly, context is everything. Without watching Seasons 1 & 2 it will be hard to invest in any of the characters because you won't know any of their backstories. Season 3 picks up without any introductions regarding identity and relationships.

Just because you were raised with love doesn't mean that every parent out there raises their child with love. Your experience is not everyone else's. The biggest mistake you can make in life is assuming that just because something did not happen to you, it's not real for someone else.
I just saw an interview by Steven Yeun, who is a Korean American actor and how there was a story in their Korean church growing up, that a parent wanted his son to be a dentist SO bad, that the son became a dentist, slapped the qualification on the table and left the family.
That is LITERALLY the second episode of this show. And it shows how common something like this is.
its not abusive to some countries in asia rather its common..i have already graduated . still my mom interferes…
The biggest misconception that people have been taught is that all parents love their children. That's not true. I'm a lawyer who has worked with child protection services. Trust me, not all Asian parents love their children. Not all parents (regardless of gender, age or ethnicity) love their children.
Also, actor-wise, I'm a huge fan of Kim Byung Chul who is phenomenal vs Min Woo Hyuk who is a pretty face with the same weirdly fake expression in the several dramas I've seen him in. Her mother in law's boyfriend --- Caused the dinner scene where the mother found out.
Her son's girlfriend --- Created another confidant in her life
Roy Searching for his father --- Prompted him wanting to donate his liver to her.
The daughter going to art school --- Was a way to introduce the other child to Cha and her family.
The two doctors ridiculously fighting ---- Was a future reference of In Ho and Kim.
I love the character development from the mother, the villages, Sam-Sik and Mi-Joo all the way to the cottagecore gays (my new faves).
I'm going to be sad when this ends.
