I have to hand it to this show. They are showing the real world issues that are prevalent today. And they are not glamorizing it, but drawing attention to how awful human beings are to one another due to the various power structures.
So many positive reviews, yet I am finding myself really struggling to finish this series :( Not sure why....…
I think it's because it's not meant to be binged. I binged the first fifteen episodes because I enjoyed it, but then I got stuck. Now I've started watching only one episode a day, which helps.
Someone please tell me that the reporter gets her comeuppance. She's like the Dolores Umbridge of this series.
Finally completed this. The directing is an utter mess. It was like the director was extending the run time to hit the 60 minute mark per episode because the writer wrote enough for 45 mins.
Regardless of how weirdly paced and badly done the flashbacks were, this has to be one of the more complex characterisations I've ever seen in any drama. The main characters were so well thought of, but the writing and dialogue... Oh boy. That was bad. (Every character replied 'What?' at least ten times)
If this concept was given to a better writer and director, this show would have been amazing. As lacking as the execution was, in its essence, this was a damn good drama.
I keep wondering why women in this drama are so bound to family like yes that little baby isn't psychopath but…
Very few parents (in real life) will choose the life of the victim over the life of their child who is the perpetrator, especially if their child says he's innocent. Very few parents will believe a victim over their child unless there is definitive proof. And even if there is proof, very few parents will blame the child, most of them will blame the victim or the other perpetrators. It's more than a maternal instinct. It comes from the pride they feel in raising their child.
Especially in Asian countries (like mine), where a child's accomplishments are his parent's accomplishments and a child's weaknesses, are the fault of bad parenting (we can thank society for that), the bond between mother and child is ironclad. Defending the child is not all about the child, it's also about defending themselves. At the end of the day, they defend the rapist/killer so that they are not the mother/father of a rapist/killer. Because we all know that THAT would be the worst thing for the parent, not that their child raped or killed anyone. (*rolls eyes*) Because as long as he claims to be innocent, they can deny deny deny, and no one will say the parents raised them wrong.
I honestly though at episode 1 and 2 LMK was type casted from The Beauty Inside and Because This Is My First Life.…
I think you're right about LMK being type casted. I thought he was the exact same character as the previous two roles you mentioned. After episode 9, I feel like his personality has done a complete 180. He's not the same character he was at the beginning of the show.
And I highly recommend Into the Ring for Nana. She's great in it. It's off the beat comedy, and the directing is super unique.
This should have been a 10 - 12 part melodrama about the main leads and their relationships with their parents. The rest of the plot is a mess.
Random thought: Coming from their previously well-written dramas, were Nana and Lee Min Ki forced to do this drama??? This is the complete opposite of Kill It, Into the Ring, The Beauty Inside and The Lies Within.
I haven't cried this much for a tv show since This is Us. This show is full of warmth and heart; it makes me cry tears of joy and sadness. The utter desperation in Chae Rok during the snow fall scene was simply stunning. How am I supposed to say goodbye to this masterpiece?
ji chang wook has had bad luck with dramas since he came out of enlistment - hope this one is good
I agree. The writing was weak in Melting Me Softly and Backstreet Rookie (although this was entertaining). And I was bored throughout most of Lovestruck in the City. I sincerely hope the writing is solid in this one. I'm waiting for his next hit since Healer and Suspicious Partner.
I can't believe we're half way through and nothing has happened. The content could have been covered in 2 - 3 episodes. I'm more interested in Bi Soo's mum tbh.
Hey all, I need some advice!I picked out two dramas that I can watch: "Be Melodramatic" & "The Fiery Priest"The…
It really depends on your mood. The Fiery Priest is similar to Vincenzo in comedy, feel and action, while Be Melodramatic is a subtle drama with a different kind of quirky comedy. Honestly, these are two of my favourite dramas, so you can't go wrong with either. But if you're in the mood to watch something similar to Vincenzo, then The Fiery Priest is your best bet. If you want to watch something with a different mood since Vincenzo is still airing, then Be Melodramatic would be great.
