Hutong is rebroadcasted for the 3rd time (CCTV8) right now and Gen Z will be rebroadcasted next month (Dragon tV). Cfans are a bit more lucky than us. But even so, we have time to rewatch her old dramas.
TSOPG will be aired this year. Lusi always thought her dramas will be released later than they did

I guess ckelulis have no will till now, they are really busy with some other things.

the number of reservations at this time doesnt mean anything. HL had almost 6 mill reservations, TLI had almost 7 millions. Dont worry for ZLS's dramas

ZLS is considered the top of 95 line. She was the first billing in HL
CZY got more recognition (China and overseas) after HL. He was second billing in HL

HL was a blockbuster in China, but its overseas popularity is impressive (Instagram, Facebook, X, tiktok- all platforms exploded during airing - HL hashtag had almost 5 billions views on tiktok)
HL finished it's airing on Netflix on 2nd place as number of points (all times cdramas aired on Netflix). The first place was still Who Rules The World (Zhao Lusi and Yang Yang)

If you want to watch more dramas of ZLS, I recommend Love Like the Galaxy and Who Rules The World.

Lusi has 21 endorsements, she's the actress with the biggest number of endorsements. She has duties (shoot ads, livestreams, interviews, offline activities). She's working. She also had a photo shooting session for a new magazine
More, Lusi always left 2-3 months between drama projects, never filmed back to back. TSOPG turned off camera on the 14th of March, about 1 month ago.

yup, sometimes, in some democratic countries (and even there you cant be sure always of the sincerity of the intention), not in a communist one. If you never lived under a communist regime, you cant know/understand how things are.

Generally speaking, I dont mind some ppl see things differently. It's our nature, it's about our life experience, our background, our fears, culture, education, age. .and it's normal to be this way. But here, most of them are haters, I read tones of illogical comments about Lusi and her dramas during time
You cant debunk a rumor/ a black comment if you cant bring data or facts. Many of ZLS int fans are this way, they do research, check several platforms, weibo too, collect data. They have a clearer vision of chars Lusi plays, coz they watch all her interviews, knows the way her dramas are marketed, discuss in groups etc. But what is sad, for haters doesnt matter what you show/explain, show facts and they dont care about truth or facts. Important is that lil and momentary satisfaction they have when they shade her or her work and the image damage they think they done. Gosh...and so many of them are so rude, like they just get out from a cave
When I have time I like to engage in convs. At least what I write stays there for every passer by who wants to read and they dont take as good what every hater or yxh said on weibo and it was brought on int platforms. Or, at least, makes her/him wonder

*grateful for the ideas exchange, for the way we agree to disagree:)

"My response to this type of love story is who cares? "
the novel fans base which is huge (millions)

"The writers must create something that will make it past the censors, but still convey the message the writers want to get across"
this is your supposition (about the message), not a fact. This drama was an A drama (low budget). The prod team wouldnt risk to fail a censorship, there werent money and time for another post prod/part of it. And I will give you an ex: Legend of Anle failed 2 censorships. The editing suffered a lot, are holes in plots, and it was a high or very high budget drama but they still couldnt handle it.
Imo they did everything to make things clear from the beginning. More, there isnt yet a prod team which dares to tease laws in China or send messages about them. They would be blacklisted, never work in industry. If there are some things you cant do in China, firsts are to not go against gov politics and do not evade taxes.
This drama has a bunch of messages, but that's not one of them

"Zhao Lu Si always plays a character who goes against societal norms. Why would she play this part?"
not a rule. Actually she picks chars with a clear development, diff genres of dramas. As she said, she wont pick another campus drama, HL will be the first and the last one. She loved SZ char, described it as sweet, cute, childish, sincere, lonely, but also, later, a strong char ready to def the man she loves, their love relation, mature enough to know what she wants from life, mature enough to comfort/heal DJX youth trauma.
This drama is about emotions. ZLS nailed SZ char. The amount of emotions she gave audience through screen is impressive. Pll love this drama for the way they feel watching it

"but it bothered me why they would have her speak like a kid and act like a kid until she turns 22.
I am sorry to say, but for 17 she has a tonality, for 19 another one and for lasts ep another one. ZLS' voice is cute by definitions, but not irritating. Saying she used the same voice isnt fair.
now...usually asian teen girls act cute and have tinny voices. When they are spoiled kids in their childhood as SZ was, this is natural

"She is not ready for this type of relationship"
Do you think she wanted/dreamed that kind of relation? Only part of viewers sexualized her crush. Dirty minds even saw shady thing even when she was 14. There is no clue/hint she imagined even a silly kiss.
This is why i am kinda socked and upset to read such things. It is first love, pure and sad coz is unrequited. She doesnt hunt touches, kisses or more, she is happy to steal a pic, and embarrassed she was caught in fact like a thief. She is in plushies era in her 17 when it comes about love

"DJX tells his friends at the bar in episode 23 that he had a crush on her when she was 17. He was just too embarrassed to admit it and called her his sister because this is the safe choice.
However, he does start courting her when she is 17 under the guise of being her tutor and brother. This is the safe choice. Other people might call it grooming."
Did we saw the same drama? When did he say he had a crush on her in her 17?
Again your suppositions
Lol. He didnt. There is no grooming there and i told you several times why. dont believe it, take as guarantee Netflix rated it+7
Even the fact you say he had a crush when she was 17 and he respected her, didnt give her hints of his feelings, the way he kept it in his pants till she was 20 makes him a green flag. Shits happens, but not in this drama.

"Happy pondering. This drama is more than just a simple love story. It asks the audience at what age is it morally right for a girl to start her sexual journey and with whom should she start it with? "
Are you serious? you're not
The audience saw clearly she started her journey when she was ready. And he gave her time, court her before.
Shouldnt be ppl more concerned about the real dangers teens are exposed to then to turn an unrequired first love in a moral issue? Just asking. Such a never ending debate on a fiction

However I look at what you say, this drama is a green flag one.

coz she was a spoiled brat (this is how her char at that age is described in the novel, and in drama SZ is exactly…
it's not your cup of tea, which is nothing wrong

HL novel was written when the author herself was a teenager. It's a pure romance, with a simple line, there is no hidden depth, no complicated plot.
However, the novel is very popular-> big IP. The risk with adaptations of big IPs is to not meet the huge fan base's expectations. This is what makes the difference between a big hit and a flop. But HL is a lil gem of its genre, met all expectations and even more:it was well written, well directed, cinematography, acting was very good, OSts, very compact plot focused on main chars, details, everything was what it should be
To reduce HL to beautiful actors with great chemistry isnt fair

The book doesnt appear in the novel, so no link between HL novel and Asimov's work.
The prod team wasnt bold enough to keep the original age gap of 7 years, reduced it to 5(not their fault, they had to due to chinese censorship). So, saying the Asimov's novel is a ref. is too much

*The age of consent is still 14 in China. If you check, there are no restrictions(or there are some restrictions till 16, some sources talked about that) by authorities and marriage isnt a must/condition/restriction. (“If the law sets the age of consent at 14, it tacitly grants sexual autonomy to minors over 14 and implies that they can freely decide to engage in sexual activity-Zhu Guangxing, - assistant professor of criminal law at China University of Political Science and Law- see Yantai scandal)
If Andrew had to hide Noÿs and goes against system till the end, step by step, DJX hadnt to hide his relation even if he would had feelings for SZ when she was 17, which wasnt the case. There is no law in China which prohibits dating a girl of 17.

About costume dramas: almost all heroines are about 15 years old in the beginning of the dramas. China had Hairpin Ceremony, girls in their 15 who received proposals, have this ceremony which marks the fact girls become adults and they are eligible to marry.
Even China kept the age of consent of 14, ppl can marry if they are 20 (women) and 22 (men) nowadays. These are ages when they can support a family (and the parents, too, if there's the case). They can marry at younger ages with parental approvement
In LLTG, even CSS is 15 and received proposals from men in their early 20, she was to young to know what love and marriage are (see CSS and LY talking about marriage scene). She fell for LBY, but their relation was platonic till she became an adult. All recent dramas are made this way, the consummation is pushed several years later, till heroine becomes an adult or close to that age
PPL dont comment coz these are facts, happened long time ago, and we all have a grand grand mother who married at her 16 no matter our culture is. Were times when if women didnt marry after 20, they were the subject of gossips

in HL drama, when SZ met first DJX (14 yo), she was impressed by his handsomeness and kindness, she wanted to have a brother like him. At that age there was no love interests from none of the parts
At 17 she admitted she has feeling for him, but she thinks he would never love her coz of the age gap, she is too young for him, he can meet a girl in uni, same age, same hobbies, same aspirations. She knows she has no hope, that's why she keeps her first love secret; he had no idea about her feelings and no romantic interest for her, he also tells her if he will have a gf, there will be another person, besides him, who will treat her nicely
At 19, they met again and started to date (see drunk SZ scene: she was 19 and she never got a single sign from him that he could ever see her in a romantic way and she had no hope he will see her as a grown up woman)

Why is her family and DJX worried about her relation with that older guy? Mostly coz chinese law (age of consent in china) creates an opportunity for offenders to prey upon teens. They dont know that guy, what his intentions are, anything. SZ invented him, and avoided to give details coz she lied. You can see their desperation when she left home to go see her older "bf"
Why shouldnt I believe DJX when he say he fell for her in that snowing night? That was the moment he realized he has romantic feelings for her.
I still dont get it why ppl want him having romantic feelings when she was 17, suspect him when both chars said it clear in drama there was nothing from his side when she was 17. I didnt see his struggle hiding his feelings, not him accepted them and dated her, kept her hand only till she became an adult. Why such a fuss about this age 17, coz it is below 20 as 19 is (when they have a relation), but both over 14/16. In this light, Asimov book is nothing

About the novel, to answer to your last question: it was always very popular. Big IP, loved by millions of ppl. DJX wasnt suspicious and it was considered a green flag, even the age gap is bigger. Things always clear about the novel, coz author herself said it's the story of her first, unrequited love. The both side love story (happened after she's 19) is pure fiction. Author had never any intention to shade her own work. LoL.
Always risky to make an adaptation of a big IP, coz if prod team and actors dont meet novel's fans expectation, it will flop badly. And we saw lots of such dramas. There were voices who said actors dont fit chars, but got silent after drama was aired. HL met all novel's and manga's fans expectations in matter of fidelity (very close to novel/manga), more, acting, directing, everything was good.
The voices against drama found suspicious the lightning and some angles in the first eps, the way SZ calls him gege (but she uses gege for all her brother's dorm mates), the way CZY acted DJX when they first met when ZLS acted SZ in her 17-22. Nothing serious, ignoring deliberately text, chars development, everything. I find their takes as being unserious. Usually, ppl have an interest when they shade something without a factual basis.
More, if you think censors are silly (lets say easy to trick) and a drama can pass a censorship using tricks, you are wrong. Audiovisual laws, censorship, more drastic than other rl laws.

* It's still a mystery for me why China keeps this law about the age of consent. There was a proposal to raise the age but nothing happened . Meanwhile there is a drastic audiovisual censorship . Different laws, different culture, I guess we can take it or leave it

it was an A drama which finished its running as a S drama. That means their budget was low but finished its running with high incomes
After the former director left saying he cant involve in this project coz it will be a big failure (and he took with him 3/4 of the former prod team and part of the crew), they had costumes for 2 days, no director, no screen writer, no actors for sec roles.
ZLS brought brands she represented, her actors friends, used her own garderobe and assured garderobe for the other actors. She loved SZ char so much and wanted to make this drama. HL wouldnt exist without her support
HL is the first joint private modern love drama ever bought by Netflix

not really
The story started when she was 13-14 in the novel, finished after they married. There are chapters about their family, they have a child, a girl, who is smart and funny, a trouble maker.
It really is a simple love story. There is no parallel between HL (novel or drama) and Asimov's novel
told you already several times, this isnt a forbidden love story, happened to be an unrequited one in the beginning
