Viki asked for my pin to start episode 4. Lawd hamercy, what on earth are they doing that's worse than the violence we've already seen.🫣 This series is the highlight of my week. I'll be sad when it's over. If all ends well, it will likely demote Strangers from Hell as my all time favorite drama.
Sang Hyuk has anime skin. I don't know how he got that beatdown of a lifetime from his dad and then emerged from the back alley an unblemished king. He's knees deep in his self-assigned revenge, but I believe he's doing this to position himself as the next boss. He seemed pretty chill about the actual death. So far, he's only shown genuine care for Eun, which tells me Ji Young does have something to do with Sang Hyuk and the deceased son not getting along and Kang Heon exiling Sang Hyuk. Wouldn't he hate both half siblings if he was the problem? Ji Young was so desperate for revenge she wanted to risk her husband going BACK to prison after just getting out. She also pays Eun no mind either, which Eun pretty much admitted neither parent looks after her. She's got "adeul syndrome."
Judge is starting to feel the weight of corruption. The vast difference between how meticulous Kang Heon has been at solving the case versus the hastiness of the judge covering it up is exactly why everything is unraveling. Judge is too green and pure hearted with too few connections to pull this off. Now he's got sleep paralysis and oncoming anxiety disorder because of the fear of being caught.
Ho Young is out of his mind if he pursues any kind of relationship with Eun after finding out who she's related to! After all his father has sacrificed to save him and he's going to go play in the den of lions? When her brother is a gorgeous psycho with a gun and ambition? He's going to need an oxygen tank, not an inhaler! Honestly, he gets on my nerves. Send him to jail!!!
I believe Lady Cop knows deep down that there's something off with the case, but her bias towards the judge and his son is causing her to seek other leads to prove it wrong. I get it. No one wants to believe that someone excellent like the judge would be involved in a fatal hit and run case.
Lee Sang Taek is the king of Deadbeat Dad Nation! He talked all that mess knowing he treated his "one and only mother" and "precious daughter" like trash. His ending was no surprise. I hope his son can get to safety and start a new life. He seemed to have a good head on his shoulders.
Every Family Gathering: Sang Hyuk: 😎[uninvited grand entrance] Kang Heon: 😤Go back to America. Sang Hyuk: 🙄 Ji Young: 😏 Kim Eun: 😭 Sang Hyuk: 🤫 [stays and does whatever he wants to do, because he's fine and they'll deal.]
Sang Hyuk has an iron will and no fear. He's too gangster for his family when they're trying to do crime on the low. The tension is palpable. I'm hoping for a backstory on the family dynamics. It seems like the deceased son was the light of their world. Kdrama history tells me Ji Young was out for her own son's glory and probably pinned things on Sang Hyuk as kids to sour his father's view of him. As a result, Sang Hyuk likely rebelled and now is trying to earn his father's approval and take back his rightful spot as the true heir of Woo One Group. We'll see.
If Mother is going to be trouble, she better be serving us luxurious fashion and face. I want to see a runway extravaganza when she delivers that "go away" check. At least give us a feast for the eyes as we dry our tears for FL.
I'm late to the party, but better late than never! I'm on episode 2 and totally gripped by the plot. LJG never disappoints. His range is impeccable and he consistently selects great projects. As a member of the Korean Vampire Community, it's no shock that he's around 39/40 in this role and manages to fit perfectly in place when playing a high school student and college student. This is often awkward for most actors as they at least look a stone-cold, hard 29 and obviously too old for the character. LJG is frozen in time.
why did the little girl and her grandmother die? what did they do to deserve that?
Sorry, I meant Lee Sang Tak, not Chang Hyuk. In episode 2, the judge meets with an assemblyman he's friends with. The assemblyman has people he hires from a gang to do tasks. This group is somewhat of a rival to the gang run by the antagonist, Kang Heon, who's son was killed by the judge's son in the hit and run. The judge tells the assemblyman about his wife's car being involved in the hit and run that killed Kang Heon's son. The assemblyman hires Lee Sang Tak from the rival gang to steal the car to help get rid of it so the hit and run can't be connected to the judge (or his son). Sang Tak takes the job. The judge reports the car as stolen to cover up his son's role in the hit and run. Sang Tak runs a red light and gets pulled over. When the cops run the plates, it's pinged as stolen. They attempt to arrest him, but he escapes. Word gets back to the rival gang that the car Sang Tak was hired to steal is from the hit and run. When suspected of being the culprits of the hit and run by Kang Heon, they had sworn they had nothing to do with it and assured they'd help find out who did it. Right after, they hear that the job they assigned Sang Tak was to help hide the offending car, basically unwittingly being accomplices to the attempted cover-up. Sang Tak's mother (grandma) takes care of his elementary-age daughter (the cute little girl) and teen son. The judge knows the grandma and little girl from a case he had presided over, which was the murder of the girl's mother. When he found out about the mix up with the car, he went to Sang Tak's house to offer him a large sum of money to flee the country to make this whole thing go away and take the blame for the hit and run. To his shock, the grandma and little girl are related to Sang Tak and they live together. He watches them enter the house. The grandma flipping on the light switch triggers a rigged propane gas canister to blow up the house. The judge rushes to pull the grandma away from the fire. She's engulfed in flames. The judge uses his jacket to put the flames out, but she seems to already be dead. The little girl never comes out of the house as the fire consumes it. It appears this was a hit set up by Kang Heon (or his eldest son), because he found out from the police about the stolen car having a piece of his son's motorcycle fender lodged in above the front left tire, something the judge missed when he tried to clean up the evidence.
I can't help but think about how good this drama would be if ML's trajectory was more like Saeroyi's in Itaewon Class. What if the plot focused on him getting his second chance and developing as a person and businessman while navigating life's challenges with his newfound resilience? The doctor would just be a doctor, and ML checks in for one on ones in the cozy office over tea and shares his thoughts and experiences so far. Perhaps that doctor would be older and a father or mother figure in a sense, who watches over him from afar. Maybe they have their own personal tragedy, such as losing a child, and developed the treatment to help free others from suffering. Romance would be a side story with a nice girl ML meets along the way to self-discovery. Maybe she's a journalist or lawyer. ML goes on to raise up star athletes at his agency and creates a safe space for them to grow as people. Then his parents go rot in the countryside after his little brother retires from tennis to study abroad and find his own passion. The end. Cue the freeze frame photos and Subway logo with a soft ballad sung by Jaejoong.
I think I'm about to drop this drama. I tried, yall!
why did the little girl and her grandmother die? what did they do to deserve that?
The worst part is, *Sang Tak was an abusive father and son. He only cared about himself. All this incident will do is make him more desperate to save himself than to mourn his mother and daughter or protect his son. Hopefully his son was still at work. I'm curious to see if he'll go to Southeast Asia with him to escape.
I'll take a Traumatized Goon with Narcissistic Goon's style and hygiene and who goes to therapy weekly and takes meds, for $500, Alex! He'd be much more pleasant. When you have zero bad memories, it's hard to be humble and grateful. The narcissism makes sense. As far as Goon is concerned, life is golden just because.
Where do I start??? Can the emergency response department not track the location of callers? I found it odd that 119 kept calling back but didn't send anyone to the scene of the accident. It was obvious from the start that this accident was too complex to cover up. Pan Ho did well for a novice, but not thorough enough. I'm curious if the bloody clothes will be found in the landfill, unless the trash is typically incinerated. That part was a bit sloppy, but I guess his neighbor spooked him when he tried to burn it in the grill. Staging a car theft was a terrible idea. He could've used his connection to have the car destroyed at a junkyard and then send his son off to live abroad. He's not cut out for the crime life.
The son has asthma AND anxiety, so he's not the best candidate for living with a deadly secret. Guilt and fear of getting caught will eat him up. With all the collateral damage, it was best to just turn himself in from the beginning and face the consequences. He was having an asthma attack and light flashed in the window, plus his dad is an esteemed judge. I think things would've worked out better for him coming clean.
Sang Hyuk is my favorite. I'm curious why he was passed over as the eldest son. I'm also noticing we've got a step-mom hates step-son situation with him. I'm guessing he must've done something to his half brother or was misunderstood by her during his youth. Looks like no love is lost on his side. I want to know more about him and why he was expelled to the U.S. He seems to be the ideal heir to a crime syndicate.
I'm sensing a highly tragic Romeo and Juliet twist between Ho Young and Kang Heon's daughter. Messy, messy!
RIP (possibly) to that cute little girl and her grandma. Her father was a deadbeat. She didn't deserve to take that hit. Pan Ho is a judge who's seen many cases. It's amazing how he didn't anticipate the collateral damage. This drama is showing how far one can fall from a high horse!
Can someone tell me the writing is low? is it that bad or?
I'm enjoying the drama so far! It may be people who don't normally watch this genre giving it a go and not liking it. I've noticed ratings tend to be based on personal taste rather than content in some cases.
I've been waiting for a meaty thriller to watch and this seems to fits the bill. Corruption, prestige, excess, tragedy, and organized crime? That's my kind of drama plot. I need that audiobook in episode 1. I believe Heo Nam Joon may be my new favorite actor. He reminds me of when I first saw Sung Hoon all those years ago in Oh My Venus and I thought, "Ah, he will be a star."
I know it's fiction and all for fun, but what's with Goon's entitlement to FL? He's forcing himself and his will on her. He doesn't even know her. He doesn't even know his childhood "first love." Goon saw her for a hot second and got infatuated. He doesn't even know her name. The projection of his feelings is dark. Stalking is a serious issue in SK, so it's troubling to see how stalker behavior is still presented in dramas as an acceptable way to express love or interest when the character is handsome. Goon is displaying obsession, not genuine interest. FL isn't a possession to be had. This drama is becoming very disturbing to me. FL needed to pepper spray Goon when he was trying to grab her. Goon really isn't much different than his mama when you strip away the shiney exterior. Again, I'm stuck in that loop of sticking around to see how this all turns around, if at all.
I seriously hope that they will not make ml's brother fall in love with Fl, the love triangle is totally unnecessary.…
That was too significant of an interaction for a love triangle to not be born of it. Screenwriters can't help themselves. The love triangle trope has kept them in a chokehold for decades, especially when it's between brothers. It's the same trainwreck every time.😮💨
I'm concerned that this series may have that midway dip later on that a lot of dramas have when it becomes unbearable and I drop it. The plot is incredibly strong and fresh, but I find the topic better suited as a drama than a comedy. I preferred the heavier scenes. This could've been an amazing opportunity to educate on trauma and mental health. It's a bit too slapstick for me, and the characters are WAY over the top. I understand having a juxtaposition between ML's "healed" self and traumatized self. However, we've seen this grandiose character portrayed way too many times. Can't he be confident and gracious instead of handsomely narcissistic? It's one dimensional and unrealistic. The relatability gets lost. I also find FL insufferable. Honestly, it's already hard to root for the eventual main couple. The only person I find interesting at this point is Shin, because he's a bit mysterious and not theatrical. That being said, I'll just use the fast forward on the silly/filler scenes.
I think Lee shin pushed him to river that's why police called him
I believe you're right. When I thought about how adamant he was about the bad memory eraser being used, it all makes sense. Also, the the way Lee Gun fell in the water, the positioning looks more like the result of a shove from behind than an attempt to end his own life by jumping.
The mother gave an unacceptable excuse for why she treated Lee Gun like a red-headed stepchild. Ma'am, you treated the family dog better than your own son. Just admit you were an awful mother who wanted to raise a champion and now you want to do better. Her tears and being a former athlete doesn't move me. What she did was evil. I don't like how they tried to redeem her with that monologue and tears. I'm glad Lee Gun confronted her on the issue in the flashback!
I really liked the first episode. I know the parents acted like trash but the mom did air fry him a chicken when…
The parents play favorites. If Lee Gun didn't get injured and things went according to plan, he'd likely be the one getting fed first and air fried chicken would be the top menu, whereas Lee Sin would eat last after their dog Cola, i.e. no boiled chicken. Lee Gun is the eldest son, and usually they are regarded first in the culture. His current treatment in the family is not the norm. They tolerate him because he's "family," and use him to prop up Lee Sin, which isn't love, it's manipulation. I believe Lee Sin does really care for him, but feels isolated from him because the trauma response altered Lee Gun's personality and behavior. His brother feels like a stranger, and he may feel at fault. Lee Sin seems to have OCD (organizing the psychiatrist's books by color, i.e., compulsion to feel in control of a situation or environment). He may have OCD as a result of his own trauma due to guilt, because Lee Gun lost himself trying to save him that day. Lee Sim treating Lee Gun coldly seems like a coping mechanism.
