I felt the same way too! Tbh, the female lead for in the Korean version is hard to take - Janice Wu managed to be both selfish and gracious/humble at the same time. Plus, sheās warmer than the FL in Korean version and she and the ML have really good chemistryāŗļø
What I like most about this drama is how adult it is in regards to love and how the woman gets to be the one that is on the fence (and for good reasons!), how she grows and learns to become more than the woman everyone is expecting her to be when they encouraged her to settle for security over depth.
No one is seeing how GX boxes her in and has a set of rules for himself and another for her. How he buys a bed and hides the person heās been happy to see more than his girlfriend even BEFORE things go sideways. He doesnāt actually see her - XZH is correct in this.
XZH sees how he fell short, but too late.
To me, XT is brave and courageous - Tahoe doesnāt talk back to GX mother (Iād have not been so respectful Iām sure), she gives all that she can with GX.
But she has so many broken parts inside that were left to fester because her dad died with another woman, the love her parents showed her was based on a lie, and her ex boyfriend could not see past himself that she needed him.
The way I see it - XZH is healing her in places she couldnāt quite reach and in doing so, healing the love they broke when their worlds became too much to bare.
What a gift to rebuild what was - one that so many who have loved deeply but somehow lost, wish they could do as well.
I keep telling myself Iām going to wait until itās over and watch them all at once - but I canāt! Iām so impressed with JWās acting and range - Iāve not seen her do this depth of feeling and am so here for it. The male lead is also doing an amazing job - they seem more comfortable with each other than JW and the actual boyfriend - as they should since the female lead closed her heart. This is one of my fav Korean dramaās and I didnāt think they would be able to pull it off - but they have. Episode 15 & 16 thoā¦whew - my heart! If youāve ever broken up with someone you loved deeply - but never had the opportunity for closure, this show is for you. So glad I watched it again š„°
Iām amazed at the trash talk that comes to a drama page. If you donāt like a drama, then donāt watch. But stop the body shaming, the XK obsession (we all know how much that hurt BaiLu) or other nonsense. Critique the acting or the plot. This is an light hearted feel good drama - if you want perfection, itās not for you. If you want character growth and watching a true connection between two people blossom, then stay for this fun and heartwarming ride.š

So, 2nd lead syndrome has never been my thing, and I know Xei Meng is making up for misdeeds in his past life, BUTā¦ I feel an ache of loss for ShiYi in this lifetime - they have soooo much in common and as I watch them, it makes me think of the part of the novel where ShiYi questions her love for ZSC - wondering if itās real or based on past memories. Iām a bit confused that I feel this way so far along in the show. Because while I do love the slow burn of the leads, the few interactions ShiYi and XM have feel so full of spark. š Thatās it - my rant for the day.
