Well, BaiLu was publicly shamed into taking this role by her boss talking out of turn, and original story plus its two posters, focused on the female lead…but it seems the script was reworked and they’re both on equal footing.
I really can’t say that I’m looking forward to BaiLu being dragged by ML fans again (as in AMA, TTEOM, and TSOKP)😔.
This I think is a large part of why she’s stepping away from ‘Idol Dramas’.

I think he’s talking about her willingness to wear braces. They were both painful and made her teeth look awkward - so it’s a big compliment to BaiLu that she did this.

…the styling has been wild - but I also think that she’s exhausted and hasn’t really had time to prep due to the popularity of Northward - which has meant added last minute events to her schedule.

Me toooooo when they took pics together at a GQ event a few years ago, then the year after, and last year they came in together on a boat - I knew a drama was in the works and I really like him as well. Ready for the sparks to FLY.🤭

They are also in the drama One and Only together (they’re in the same company and their boss uses his high traffic female actresses to promote his male actors careers.😅

I read on Weibo that what made this drama so successful was that it brought many young people to watch a somewhat serious drama - which isn’t common in thinking.
Six Sisters was also popular across age groups and might be why it’s also at the top - but this is just a guess.

I’ve been a BaiLu fan since “The King Is Not Easy” and haven’t looked back.
So, I really like and appreciate your well thought out review.
That said, I also DO NOT like TSOKP either🤔 Her performance is good as usual, but it’s almost as if they stripped her character of the the things that made her amazing and then added weak lead male costars (…please, please don’t come for me in the comments - only WY is on par w/ BaiLu’s ability to get into character) - making it feel like a hot mess.
BaiLu is an amazing actress, but a weak team, script, and directing makes for little shine.
