As for the plot, it emphasises more on human nature, and intrinsic qualities of living beings as the leads (especially Xiao Yao, the FL) set off to accomplish various side missions before completing the main goal, which is to collect all the 8 pieces of the Kunlun Mirror and look for the Yuli Spring. The story progression isn't fast, but it has an appropriate pacing which covers the necessary plot details that are essential in transitioning to the latter episodes.
The romance is a sweet type, not like those intense and passionate ones we see lately, but their emotions are conveyed well through their trust in one another. Hong Ye and Xiao Yao are more like a long-lost, old couple who strive to become better versions of themselves. You'll find the heartfelt connection between the characters endearing~
"Chemistry" is the biggest debate in this comment section X3. There are different types of chemistry apart from the romantic relationship between the leads, such as friendship, brother/sisterhood and new encounters.
The best part of this drama is the CGI and world-building. The beautiful sets and eye-catching costumes will definitely take your breath away~ The cast and crew all contributed well towards this whole project~ ^^

After Xiao Yao went back in time, she possessed the body of Princess Ning An, and met Hong Ye that night for the first time. She emphasised that Hong Ye didn't recognize her when they met, thus, it proves that the person Hong Ye loved a hundred years ago (i.e. Princess Ning An) has always been Xiao Yao. OMG!!! I'm getting butterflies in my stomach watching these two!! I'm squealing with joy by their cuteness overload!!!
Xiao Yao's time travelling journey started in order to bring back Hong Ye's primordial spirit (which is acquired through a drop of his tears). Xiao Mu also mentioned that one has to go back to his/her infantile stage to achieve this. Thus, going back 100 years wouldn't be the correct place to search for, but has to travel back in time further into the past, to a time when Hong Ye still hasn't become a Demon King..
Question: What if the tragedies Hong Ye went through was part of Xiao Yao's mission? It was never about Ning An, but Xiao Yao all along. If so, this would lead to another question, "When exactly was their first meeting?"... I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
The plot has thicken more so than ever, and the mysteries are revealed one layer after another!

Hmm.. In my humble opinion, I don't think he's only doing it because of her power alone... He might at least feel indebted to her sacrifice (in becoming a spirit), and I'm sure he also likes her to a certain extent... However, I do agree that the longer he lets her be, the more Pian Pian suffers as she succumbs to dark forces... It's a huge dilemma really.. :'3
