yes, jx's friend had a crush on jx's ex-boyfriend for ages. when he and jx abroke up, the friend made a move on him, which he initially rejected. eventually the ex-bf and jx's friend do get together.
jx does not know about this...yet.

also, you might note that aside from the class/status/benefits, the baroness actually liked and wanted captain vt, and she talked maria into walking away from him once...

according to the novel zd and ht were in a friends with benefits situation but zd caught feelings.
she also knew that based off their first encounter, ht views her as a business shark who only looks out for herself - she clearly thinks this at one point. initially she was okay with that but as she caught feelings it began to bother her. when she realizes ht likes jx she becomes frantic and outright chases him, despite ht telling her clearly that he wants to break it off with her.
the novel has them as lovers of convenience but not partners. nothing romantic about them. nothing approaching long-term expectations either.

2 was a good learning experience of jx. i agree.

but for ht and zd, his responses in both cases showed me that he's going easy on her.

for the first, she got a lukewarm warning after the fact.
for the second, he says two words, allows her to give an excuse, and walks away.

were it anyone else, he'd have shredded them to pieces. that's how i see him. he doesn't take cr@p from anyone...except zd.

you can argue there's reasons why,,,,he's not strong enough, has enough trouble and fights on his hands,,,etc, etc,,,,, but i still won't change my mind that he has the power and the personality to shut her down fully but isn't doing so.

im not going to change my mind.
HT is a strong personality who goes after what he wants and doens't allow ppl to get in his way.

it's not about mixing business with personal.

on a business level he did call zd out when she interfered with jx's company. i'd have liked for him to be firmer than just a lukewarm warning after the fact, but okay. let's excuse that by saying her drew the line and doesn't want to burn the bridge.

as for personal, that's separate but also something he needs to handle bc he wants to pursue a personal relationship with jx.
jx hates zd. and zd is constantly at his heels, bringing up their past, implying to an outsider that there's something between them. he should call her out on it, or, at the very least, change the tone of their relationship so that it's perfectly clear that there is nothing romantic between them.

i see ht as no one's fool.
the only fight i see him avoiding, the only pitfall i see him running toward without mitigating, is zd.

i hear the reasons and explanations you've provided for his actions.
but i dont find them sufficient. and they don't change my opinion of him-- that someone of his nature and with his power could and should do more.

She lost the right to use that title. He should constantly bring that up instead of letting her pretend it never happened.

HT strikes me as a smart man.
If the woman he is (wants to) pursue dislikes another woman, and that other woman is constantly finding opportunity to hang out around him, show up at his home with late-night snacks, constantly alluding to a past relationship, and evoking an ambiguous atmoshere to their relationship, implying an intimacy that isn't there, then he'd do well to put a stop to it.

On a business end, she did make issues for JX's company which JX managed to solve by inches. ZD has been quiet on that front since HT warned her, but hasn't given up on the personal aspect.

IDK, any way you cut it, I see HT as someone who doesn't instigate a fight but wouldn't avoid one that's at his door. ZD is at his door.

he's not afraid of challenging his cousin when she gets in his way, but backs off from zd.
as for his granda? i haven't seen him be firm with granda yet but he could stand to be so, while maintaining respect.

HT is rutheless in business. Won't stand for competitors or pseudo-allies pushing him around. But that's exactly what he's letting ZD do.
