did anyone else notice that the screens in Ho Sun's room depicted birds in the sky, while Ki Wan's depicted the land? I thought that was a nice little detail they snuck in there!
But if it was plotted out as 16 episodes then things wouldn't be left unsolved, they just would've been presented in a tighter manner with some of the extra bits cut out. It's not like I'm suggesting a chopping block on the pre-existing episodes as they stand right now. Like yes the drama was entertaining, but by the time we reached the final stretch it felt like the writing was a bit... flat? overextended? at points. Not entirely bad, but more as if it had taken too long to get to the punchline, so taking out the villains didn't have the same impact it could've potentially had. Trimming the episode count just a little bit could've kept the plot fun and exciting without making us feel like Vincenzo was wasting too much time before landing the final blow. If the writing in the final episodes had been stronger maybe I would have a different opinion on the episode count, but oh well. It just doesn't feel like the writer justified 20 episodes well enough in my opinion. Not to say the drama was bad, but just thinking about how it could've been better.
the more i think about it the more i think this drama would've done better with a nice, tight 16 episodes instead of 20. once we hit around 18-20 it felt like they've been toying with the villains far too long.
Multiple times Han Seo is in danger and Vincenzo makes no move to help him. I can understand in ep 19 because he wanted to free HCY, but what about after?? They just WATCHED???? Like they're just fine watching Han Seo square off against his stronger, psychopathic brother? And then he runs and grabs the gun and aims it right at him and STILL Vincenzo makes 0 move to help! It's not like everything happened really fast, they WATCHED HIM GET SHOT. The writing there was annoying, what were they doing?? Even after Jun Woo gets away Vincenzo runs back to HCY's side first instead of properly checking up on Han Seo like bro... she was hit in the shoulder, she'll be fine. Meanwhile HAN SEO was literally shot in the stomach and is bleeding out on the floor maybe check on him first? There's a limit to prioritizing the love interest before it starts to piss me off. We knew she was fine, but even from an in-story reaction pov HE knows she'll be fine! She was hit in her right shoulder, not like her lung or something. Like good god Han Seo has to call out for Vincenzo to go to him.... And everyone's acting like it's ok he died because he died being useful and saving the mains, ugh. This is the 2nd time tvn has burned me with something like this. Did they really think we'd be happy with such an end for him?? Ofc we'd all fall in love with him and want a good ending for him after they not only show us he's a sweetheart, but showing and telling us of his lifetime of abuse, and then showing him breaking free and finally feeling safe. OFC we'd root for him! I hate when characters like that get killed off - it doesn't make me go "wow how sad how beautiful wow the writing", it just makes me angry.
despite enjoying this drama the whole time, it felt like the final episodes were just... meh? it was great to see the villains get their comeuppance but somehow I wasn't feeling the writing. was this seriously it after they edited it? makes me wonder what was there before
I kinda wanted to give a 9.5 because I didn't really vibe with the dad plot but it's still 1000000x better than…
I gave it a 9.5 for that exact reason lol. I had to take off half a point because I hated how the dad plot was handled sooo much idk why the writer pushed it so much it just left me like :\ Otherwise an amazing drama that, disregarding that side plot, deserves a 10/10 100%.
"I wonder what the coach said [to Ho Beom]" give me a break, it wasn't him at all it has been Mr. Shim's encouragement this whole time that got Ho Beom to go to the tryouts (btw so proud to see him beginning to soar again!)
Chaerok's father plot line is the only plot line that I dislike completely in this drama. He was clearly abusive…
Yes exactly! I've been feeling the same way the whole time. It's the only plotline in this show that drives me up the wall the way it's being handled. There's no redemption, he's still justifying why he did it! It seems the only thing he feels bad about is the loss of connection with his son... kind of. He didn't even think to apologize/talk to Ho Beom (and the other kids) until he heard he hurt Chae Rok - not that I think it's good for Ho Beom to have his abuser literally show up right in front of him out of the blue :\ I just wanted him to leave him alone tbh. All he needed was the encouraging words from Mr. Sim, keep Chae Rok's dad away.
And I can't believe they had that convo where he tried to frame it like he was helping Ho Beom. As if Ho Beom was the one who misunderstood his intentions and is holding on to unjustified anger. Ho Beom being injured and being beaten have no connection at all - even when he was trying to justify his actions there's no correlation given between "you were injured" and "I wanted the team to do well" but somehow now it's all ok and cleared up??? And even in ep 11 the way Chae Rok's friend was like "I used to hate him but idk I felt better after he apologized" like man the "get the dad some points" lines are sometimes very obvious. I wish they'd stop pushing this and stop pushing Chae Rok to reconnect with him, as if we're meant to forgive and forget him beating kids with a bat.
It sucks that an otherwise very warm and loving drama has a side plot like this - it makes me feel like I have to take at least half a star off my rating just for that because it bothers me so much.
the grandfather Mr Shim is married, his eldest son is married, and his eldest daughter is married
only as much as you'd expect between married couples! but even then not that much, just mutual care and support - romance is really not the focus at all in this drama
