I also like the 2nd ML in the Japanese version but I hated him on the Taiwanese. Same thing with 2nd FL, I could stand her better in this one.

"In Time With You" was the first and only Taiwanese drama that I've completed and loved (I'm more of a kdrama watcher myself). I loved it and since then have watched (or tried to) all its remakes, and this one is the only one that I really liked.

It's quite similar in scenarios and plot development but the lead characters have different personalities and give different vibes which makes it refreshing enough.

I still prefer the original one though, the relationship felt the most natural, but I got to admit the FL in the Japanese one was less annoying hahaha

This comment section leaves me feeling like some people really have to improve their reading comprehension skills... Or get a reality check...

OP the article was nice and interesting from a "sociological" point of view :)

Glad to see a reasonable and mature answer to the article ^^

The Untamed' success is a sum of many good factors (solid acting, solid story etc), including the fact that the…
Since you bring out the Kpop analogy, you claim you "never want to date any of them virtually" but that doesn't mean that a huge part of the fanbase doesn't. It's actually an integral part of the kpop business/industry to make the idols saleable as the audience "boyfriend" , hence why they can't date, etc.

As for the show, the OP never once claimed that the "boyband effect" is the sole reason that it is successful. In fact she said the opposite. As you yourself said it is a multivariate equation, a sum of different factors. What the OP theorized it's that "boyband effect" is one of those factors. Which considering the fan base demographic is highly likely.

She added those side-notes not because her article is badly expressed, in fact is perfectly expressed and understandable, but she had to add those disclaimers cause people on the internet tend to get triggered extremely fast and take everything out of context, and she probably isn't a confrontational person.

PS: The article can come across as demeaning, but that's just if you project your own insecurities over someone else's opinion. Just because it doesn't apply to everyone it doesn't mean it's completely untrue.

Who decides which articles and dramas can be judged quickly and which can't be? That just shows double standards.

I never claimed anything about intelligence so I don't know how can we "disagree" on what I think about it. Anyway you keep disregarding all the points I make and just ramble about other stuff, so let's just agree to disagree.

If you like The Untamed that's great, just respect other's opinions and views. You can disagree with it, and express your disagreement whatever way you like but don't expect people not to call you out if you do it in a disrespectful way. And since you keep comparing your initial post with the article, I'll let you know the article wasn't disrespectful in any way, you were. If you can't see that then I can't help you.

Look I don't mean to diss the drama at all, I haven't watched it. I was just defending the author of the article cause it looks like you misunderstood her intention and wrote your comment defensively and it came across a little aggressive. It's okay to disagree with what an article says and criticize it, but I think there are more and less valid ways to do it. I don't claim that her observation is true, but if it were , it is not downplaying the intelligence of anyone. Falling for this kind of marketing "traps" is part of the human psychology.

If you read my comment again you will see that I never attacked you nor got personal. I never attacked you liking the show or anything. And I indeed talked about the contents of the article and your comment. I criticized how you yourself claimed you hadn't even finished the article yet still you were harshly criticizing the OP. Think about how that would feel if someone watches first 10 eps of "the untamed" and then said "I watched the beginning and stopped when the point became clear to me...this show is bad and that's simply the truth", would you think their criticism is valid? I don't think so. It's true many people in the comment section disagree with the OP but most of them don't disrespect her opinion which I feel your initial comment does.

The only thing that can come across as "personal" is the "get off you high horse" comment. But claiming to know what good cinema is comes across a little pretentious, so bear with me.

I really don't want any kind of confrontation. I come to this website to chat about dramas, since not many people in my surrounding watch them.

I see you edited your initial comment and also I remember reading a different answer to my comment and then you deleted it and posted this one. Just for reference so if anybody reads this in the future it does't come across as one sided or me making things up.

Yes it’s badly rated in South Korea. I don’t understand why people keep denying that. it’s good they like…
Yeah I get that, I didn't mean that it wasn't doing well because of it being about mental health issues, I meant that while dramas about "controversial" or "serious" topics that address issues in Korean society usually do extremely well over there, this one hasn't, even though it could be classified in that same category, but they don't recognize mental health as a prominent "Korean society" issue (even though it obviously is, and they do know, but is not really openly regarded that way).

So, basically, I didn't mean a Korean drama about mental health can't do well over there, there's plenty that have, but I just hypothesized that maybe, as of now, it would never be able to reach a status like WOM or Sky Castle.

I think I didn't explain myself well enough before, now either, but I don't know how to do it better LOL english isn't my first language and I'm also not great at explaining myself to begin with. And I already made it way too long.

About the vibe thing combined with a serious issue, yeah, I see how it could be that, I hadn't thought of it that way. I don't know if any drama has done it previously and if it did well on Korea.

That Tim Burton vibe is what I actually love about it! Hahaha
I notice Koreans really love controversial topic dramas, and even though ASPD could be considered controversial, Koreans don't care for mental health issues that much yet, so they don't see it as a "serious" enough topic maybe... I'm just guessing idk

Apart from the 'sexual harassment' controversy and the fact that people don't normally watch dramas via cable,…
I had no idea there was a sexual harassment controversy going on, I'm pretty out of touch lately lol
I don't know what the exact claims are but knowing how quick are knets to overreact I totally understand your annoyance lol. Anyway turns out ratings weren't that bad to begin with.

Also, nowadays there's plenty of dramas about mental health coming out, not all of them are the best representations, but at least they hopefully help to normalize the issue.

Not really, it's on pay tv and still tops the nielsen ratings
Yes, after reading some answers I checked myself and saw they weren't that bad, as I said probably a bullshit article or maybe the author doesn't know about cable ratings. Anyway I'm glad it's not the case ^^

Really? With only a couple cameos and one drama?! Wow hahaha

Yeah, probably that or maybe the writer of the article doesn't know how cable ratings work, saw the small numbers and assumed it was a flop

Cool!! I read it somewhere in an article that talked about A-list Korean actors Lee Min Ho, Ji Chang Wook and Kim Soo Hyun's return after military dramas being all flops. For the others I kinda get it but for this I was like "WHAT? wait, how?" but I guess it was bullsh*t...

Thanks for letting me know ^_^
