Dude! (Dudette?) You skipped 10 episodes and gave it a 6.5?!? If I had to skip half a series I'd give it 1. I…
I'm quite generous with ratings on this site, to roughly align with general rating standards, and people still think I'm a miser. Also I've set the bar pretty high for watching a drama start to finish, as there are 5-10X the dramas I could enjoy for the time I have for watching. I mean, I normally drop shows below 7, so I wouldn't finish a 5.5 show at all. Also I mainly skipped-to-finish because I liked the beginning, the concept, and found the production/acting decent.
See my profile for my rating logic, it's roughly a Bell Curve. And given how trashy the average drama is (most idol dramas), this was roughly 6-6.5 on the scale (and I curved up the review rating compared to my watchlist rating 6.0). If I were to make a rating scale for my own elucidation, then the dramas I enjoy would be from 4-10, and 1-4 to categorize the various shows I didn't enjoy. But that would seem too meanspirited to people and I would be tanking the ratings of my favorite shows on MDL.
But regarding this show, I share many of your sentiments about its issues.
I really appreciate this review for voicing what I felt. S2 is supposed to be better than S1. I'd say S4 is best…
I've heard a lot of good things about the show, but haven't come around to watching the other seasons because the characters, esp LLF didn't quite click for me in Season 1.
I appreciate your review for ADwaD. I watched almost ten episodes which I did enjoy, and then paused it because…
Thanks. People's biggest complaint about the show seems to be FL's treatment of the ML. It's not good for rooning (romance-gooning), but it's actually reasonable from a character setup and plot perspective.
Thanks very much for your review. I love Cheng Yi so much that it's hard to skip a drama of his even if I'm forced…
YW. I think the show works better if you don't go in with much expectation of romance, and keep in mind that ML's primary calling is still to save the world.
Glad you liked it. Yeah I'm a strong advocate for greater varieties in CDrama. Costume dramas that go hard on…
Some dramas in that list are quite popular already, so I'll highlight some ones that are terrific but very overlooked on MDL:
To Get Her - feels closest to Egg & Stone for me
Bureau of Transformers - Douban 8.4; supernatural, case-like mini-arcs and a central arc. At once absurdist and touching
Later, I Laughed - Don't get put off by the FL's initial doormat personality, this one is both hilarious and realistic, top 3 modern drama of 2024 for me. SoL humor.
Hilarious Family and Legend of Undercover Chef are more sitcom-like, especially the latter. Chef is from comedy legend 赵本山, I've even seen some ppl compare it to the classic æ¦æž—å¤–ä¼ .
The Great Nobody - Douban 8.0, using Journey to the West to parody the modern workplace.
Ordinary Greatness - SoL humor; Great show with great characters, a top drama of 2022.
Blow UP! - a 60 min micro drama, I think it's on Douyin, or you'll need to search a bit to find it

Sure, after a quick scan of your watchlist, I'm going to dump a bunch of recs on you. I'm guessing you know Chinese, as a few hilarious shows don't have good subs.
At least some romance *modern:
To Get Her Joy of Life 1/2 Hilarious Family 1/2 Once Upon a Time in Lingjian Mountain Guardians of Dafeng *Bureau of Transformers *Later I Laughed
No Romance:
*I Am Nobody *Blow Up! *Oh No! Here Comes Trouble *Ordinary Greatness Legend of Undercover Chef 1/2 The Great Nobody
Thank you for your review. The first 14 episodes saw my sides aching. Mandarin-speakers who completely understand…
Glad you liked it. Yeah I'm a strong advocate for greater varieties in CDrama. Costume dramas that go hard on the parody and comedy is an underexplored area.

But that's not a knock on him as they are said to be more different than Portuguese and French. So it's much better that they don't pretend otherwise.
