Just finished watching, but it wasn't explained why it kept on resetting. Why were there resets? Who or what caused…
Yeah Mengmeng is the cause of the loop. In Chinese cultural context, tragic deaths can leave the spirit of the deceased not being able to rest, resulting in ghosts, haunting, and other supernatural phenomenon. So a supernatural time loop would be reasonable within the lore.
In the end, the tragedy had been resolved. The leads not only prevented her parents from multiplying the tragedy by killing more innocents. They also compelled a police investigation that brought Mengmeng's victimizer to justice. Her parents were saved, innocents were saved, and Mengmeng finally got an actual investigation to hold the wrongdoer accountable. So finally her spirit can rest/return. The ethereal image of Mengmeng at the end would be enough of a hint to Chinese audiences aware of the cultural context.
I couldn't get over the last drama I've watched so I tried to look for a genre different from the last I watched.…
The loop happened because of the tragic death of the daughter, which is further compounded by the tragedy of the bus bombing. While the exact details of time loop mechanics is not fully explained, the tragic death means that the daughter's spirit could not rest. And that confers her some supernatural powers to create the time loop so that she and her parents can eventually find justice and closure.
Currently on episode 24 and damn this is so addictiveNgl, after I've seen this plus JOL & SSS I doubt there's…
Oops, thought this was the Mysterious Lotus Casebook page. If you haven't seen MLC, that's probably the most similar in vibe to BoY. Then the other Wuxia dramas I listed for something of a different vibe. Young Blood also quite nice, has similar humorous vibe and camaraderie, though not much fighting.

You should check out 'Heavenly Sword and Dragon Saber' (HSDS) and 'Legend of Condor Heroes' (LOCH). These are remakes of Jin Yong classics that essentially defined the Wuxia genre, the way Star Wars and Godfather defined theirs. These have a more serious vibe, even better fight scenes : ), many iconic Wuxia characters, and IMO better world-building. My only gripe is that they do have some plot holes and tropes, but also higher peaks.
If you liked Joseph Zen as FDB, HSDS 2019 might be an easy transition since he's the ML. Ep1 starts off with some spectacular fights, though Joseph doesn't show up for a few episodes. Enjoy!
I don't know why people are so interested in Romance in Wuxia drama,, isn't there enough romance dramas out there…
Exactly. The gratuitous romance is as much a scourge on Asian dramas as gratuitous sex/violence is for Western shows. MLC did well to not fall for that bait.
To be honest, this is higher than I expected. Especially since JOL somehow only has 7.9 and that's like 2 tiers better in quality. Then again both JOL and Sword Snow Stride are criminally underrated in comparison to MLC and Blood of Youth.
