I do follow your thoughts. Thank you for understanding mine when I said that the novel readers have good intention, alas it deviates some viewers' logic adding that the time frame is lost in translation.
This is not a complex story to understand unless the viewer is not focused enough while watching. The pace is well written for the screen adaptation, with all due respect, even for a 5 year old to understand. Or the viewer might be too lazy to rewatch the scenes detailing what had blurred his/her mind. It is not a series like "What A Wonderful World" that challenges the mind, forces the viewer to pause orto take a step back and furthermore has some knowledge on mental illnesses. It's just a déjà vu trope. The only spark is that both leads are doing a surprising job.

Novel readers are confusing people. Nothing as such is regards to the screen version. Should you get the novel version out of your mind you'll be OK. Don't be influenced by the novel readers. They have good intention but it is confusing too many viewers.

I know. Why are comments on this thread regarding past and new life was my question - and I am aware that there is no link in regards to this screen version. My question is why bring this up because the few people that have not read the novel seem confused and transform the ML's character with unrelated past to the screen version. Even, I, felt taken aback and confused. Fortunately for me, not anymore perplexed.

The traumas of the patient are not cured and to set foot into a shrink's office is quite a stressing experience. Uncordial receptionist, trophies are exposed, net bookshelves, no dim lighting but bright light, sparkless furniture, spotless armchairs and a secluded medical space...I would be scared to death. I had quite a ride the first 5th episodes but now the stress is so real that I have to give a pause for one day or two. In the meantime I shall take a tour at the director portfolio.
Edit: I watched most Mr. Xu Bing's works Wuxia genre that I loved.
He Han has an agenda and will come back stronger for his last 3rd arc. the 2014 cell phone was a hint driving the audience for the last 10 episodes.
Gu Yan will race a temporary heaven with the delusional despicable evil woman. They both are heading into a muddy pit.
