I've finished this and I have mixed thoughts, the 2 reviews showing above that are on the negative side, well I do agree with some things, and disagree with some also. Overall I did enjoy it and most of what I didn't enjoy is my own fault, it was the modernity in it that ruined it for me and because of that I didn't like the ending to all the characters either, but again it's my own fault for watching, I knew what I signed up for when watching a drama set in 2024, I stopped watching modern dramas since about 2019 because I didn't like the direction they took like western shows so I've only stuck to Chinese historicals (mainly Xianxias) since then, hoping to avoid modern stuff in them but since this isn't a proper historical, it's set in a 2024 script that the FL goes into so obviously it was going to have 2024 stuff in it so it's what I reluctantly signed up for. What made this drama worth it was the lead couple and the male lead in general, there was also some really cool shots and scenes usually the ones where the ML saves the FL, and there was genuinely funny scenes in the earlier episodes, although it had the usual in Chinese shows of the FL constantly hurting the ML throughout until the last 10 episodes, just for once I would like to see the reverse or even better just make FL's nice again. I also didn't like the main couple's ending, it was apparently supposed to be funny her just taking off for months and him not knowing where she was, that's called being a bad and neglectful wife but ok, it's a 2024 script so not surprising, I would have just liked the "old fashioned" happily ever after. These are obviously just my personal issues with it that most other people wouldn't have, though there is other problems with the script too, obviously nothing is really explained or makes much sense but with these type of fantasy plot lines involving other worlds you just go with it and don't really expect to be given proper reasoning, which we weren't. Even the ending isn't very clear, since the before credits and after credits are two different endings.
Overall I loved the love story between the main couple and I did like the ML's character, if they were just in a proper historical with no modern stuff I probably would have loved it and rated it a 10 but as it is I'd rate it a 7.5 to 8 and that's still being generous because I did still have fun when watching it, especially the first 10 episodes. I might have rated it a 9 even before the ending but I took a point off for it lol.
I'm on episode 23 and I am enjoying it but as much as I love Chinese historical shows, mainly xianxia's, I love…
Another thing, this is a separate rant but as usual with Chinese shows there's the annoying supporting characters and for me it's Yi Ting in this one, obviously characters like her mother is very annoying too but she only exists so that Yi Ting can be the character she is and I can't stand her and it's even worse after episode 22, I wish she was the usual cruel and scheming sister as I would prefer that lol. She's also one of the variations of everything wrong with female characters in recent years, she's the epitome of the "I'm not like other girls" girl who thinks she's so more better than every other woman because she doesn't want to get married and be nice, oh the horror! so we're told she is more intelligent, courageous and better than all the other normal women who like dressing up and being nice and wanting to get married. She plays the victim non stop even though she is a privileged noble woman, her biggest problem in life is just her nagging mother but woe is her! and then she drugs and attempts to molest a man but it's ok! somehow she is the victim and it's okay that she did this to a man because it was her "empowering" herself from her "reputation", and the ML who is the one is is drugged even says "didn't you say you liked me so shouldn't you at least show me some respect" exactly but it's ok because she's a woman, I wonder how that scene would have went down with viewers if the sexes were reversed. Then she has the audacity when she sees him again to play the moral high ground and threaten him, and because of her selfishness in staging the drug fiasco she causes a lot of problems for the ML and her family.
Now her character is hardly in my least favourite characters of all time or anything like that, she's not really worth the rant but it was the fact that I'm so tired of these type of characters in general so I'm venting my frustrating. I also expect my criticism to be unpopular as I'm guessing her character is probably well liked as women today seem to love female characters who hate being female........which i can't understand or relate to since I myself love being a female but I'm one of the "other girls" so poor me lol.
I'm on episode 23 and I am enjoying it but as much as I love Chinese historical shows, mainly xianxia's, I love gothic tragedy and all that stuff that is very prevalent in these costume Chinese shows but in saying that, I am so tired of the ML being utterly abused by the FL in these shows, Chinese costume shows have the most suffering ML's of all time (Poor Tantai Jin and SiFeng to name a few, the most tortured characters in existence) it's so common in these shows for the ML to be treated horribly by the FL at some point in the show or stabbed or killed by the FL which I've got to say being a gothic lover I love the whole "killing your lover thing" that only exists in xianxias but I am tired of it only being one way, why for once can't I get a Chinese show where the FL is suffering because of the ML throughout, why can't the ML murder the FL for once lol it's always only one way, and very rarely is the FL justified. It's looking to be the same here, I hope I'm wrong but I'm seeing the ML being reduced to the FL's whimsy and how much she can hurt him and the FL in these shows very rarely makes it up to the ML, it just seems the ML always loves the FL way more and does way more for her than she does for him which is becoming a massive problem for me in recent shows. I love romance dramas because they're meant to be mutually loving and sacrificing for each other, not just one doing it all. So many FL's in Chinese shows don't deserve the ML especially in recent ones.
All I ask for is nice FL's who actually loves the ML as much as he loves her, is that too much to ask? lol Ones like Love You Seven Times and Love Between Fairy & Devil, and Immortal Samsara....if anyone knows Chinese costume shows with FL's like that please let me know.
I enjoyed this but it definitely could have been better but I think the rating should still be higher, I loved the main couple, their romance was sweet and I loved the two leads, especially the FL, I thought I would never find an innocent, sweet and lovable heroine again, I am so tired of the recent "stoic" and "tough" FLs so I loved her but I just found out that this was actually filmed in 2021 so that's explains it, thanks for getting my hopes up that more heroines could be like that in new xianxias lol. As for what dragged the drama down, I feel like it was anti climatic, all the usually great xianxia scenes like the death, tragedy and separation scenes just seemed to happen really fast and I also didn't like some of the directing, many of the best parts of the scene were not shown on camera but this could be because of the replacing of the actress. Another thing was there wasn't much fighting or action in it which I didn't like, I also think everyone was kind of useless in it lol the characters are likable but they were all constantly losing and no one really saves anyone, everyone seems to have weak powers except the annoying bad guy and even then he's not that powerful either lol. Overall it's still good and it's a beautiful love story and I enjoyed it but it is somewhat lacking in other areas so you'll enjoy it best if you like the main couple.
The ML becoming a whimp for FL seems to be quite common now, it's very annoying, in fact as much as I love xianxias they are just 40 to 60s episodes of the ML being totally abused, it gets tiresome, i don't know how many i've watched them where I found myself wishing he would move on.......so I hope this does not follow the novel.
This was good and I liked it a lot, interesting and good ML and FL, the relationship and development between them I loved, it was beautiful and they had great chemistry, but I am disappointed by the lack of kissing, they were so deeply in love and their chemistry and tension was so good and so you were waiting for some good kiss scenes or any kiss scenes lol and then nothing, we finally get one towards the end, but us, the viewers couldn't even see it! it was a "are you for real?!" moment so I just wish there was more moments towards the end but it was still really good. To be real, another reason I loved this was because it was finally a Chinese show were the ML stabs and tries kill the FL! lol firstly this is a trope I love and one that only exists in China, the trying to kill your lover trope lol I love it but it's ALWAYS the FL who stabs or kills the ML so I was so glad to finally find one the other way (this isn't a spoiler btw as it's the opening scene to the first episode). Also I don't really agree with some of the tags here like "cruel male lead" or "morally ambiguous male lead" I was totally up for both those but it's just not very true, he only seems to fit that in the first 5 episodes but he's actually a good person and everything was for a justifiable cause.
This was overall good but I only kind of liked it, it wasn't the type of Xianxia I love. There was dialogue at parts I didn't like and I could have done without the bad mouth zoom ins on the camera lol but I found the FL quite annoying for most the show, another overbearing one so wasn't a fan, I did think she improved in the final 2 episodes though lol. I actually preferred the second lead couple than the main couple which isn't something that usually happens to me, maybe it's because I didn't like the FL much but I also didn't feel the love between the 2 leads, especially from her side, and I think the whole thing with the shards didn't help their romance imo and it took so long for her to even know she liked him and even then it seemed like the romance took a backseat to her sister which is not what I watch xianxias for. So basically I preferred the two second leads and their romance the best, I kept watching it for them. Also another thing that was annoying, the two male leads were so powerful and badass for the first half of the show and they were both rendered weak and useless for the second half for no real reason. Overall this is worth watching it just wasn't a favourite for me.
I absolutely loved this, it's all that I love Xianxias for 😭 I had to make a video of them if anyone is interested https://youtu.be/Q3bSK-fLcXE and if anyone else has made a video please link!
I loved this drama, it was beautiful, the ML and FL were great and likeable and so much development for their characters and their beautiful romance, I just loved it 😭 I just had to make a video for them if anyone is interested and if anyone else here has made a video please link me! it's so hard to find Chinese drama edits on YouTube these days. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSAh9NZf0ag
I agree with many of your points. I watched this before learning of all the cnet opinions and it to this day is…
I dis see people saying that too but I personally think the lives were spaced out well, the ones that had more episodes where necessary and the shorter ones not as much, my personal least favourite of their lives was the body swapping one so I didn't mind, it made sense too that it was shorter because it was different, they only went into that one due to her friend being missing and him leaving a story with a clue, and it was wrote from adulthood unlike the other ones so it wasn't even really their life since they had no memory of both , it was more of them experiencing someone else's life so.
I completely agree with you! I absolutely love this drama and still find myself crying after watching it (even…
I totally agree! and they really do deserve more recognition for this beautiful show, I was brought to tears over how beautiful this show was when I finished it and to see how little recognition it received is saddening, you can tell so much work and effort went into it, well at least there is us who truly appreciate this beautiful show and beautiful couple.
I got IQiYi to watch this. I like the OST ,its so dreamy. I'm halfway through because I was watching Melody of…
The ending is technically their 7th life together from the title "love you seven times" so they get a happy ending for the last one, although she didn't come back to life like he did since she didn't die this time, she just went to the mortal world after seeing his god of war star shinning which gave her hope that he is still alive and I wanted to cry when the red string immortal said if it wasn't for hope of seeing him again she would have long followed him in death, love them so much! anyway she was in the mortal world waiting at the marriage temple where they met 30,000 years ago and so he comes back to her, these wuxia shows don't always explain exactly how someone comes back but do we care? no just as long as they come back, it's obviously to do with the Chinese mythology anyway. I loved when she said "who are you this time " lol it was so sweet over all the different identities they have had. So basically the ending is finally them able to be together forever, no more tribulations and no more lives, just this one to continue where they left off.
I'm back for another rant lol I just finished watching this again even though I just watched it 3 weeks ago, I loved it that much and I kept wondering why it isn't more popular, and it is saddening to see it flopped in China and apparently for the dumbest of reasons according to the Chinese websites, like the ML not being attractive enough to play an Immortal, um ok? one doesn't have to wonder why Asian celebs are obsessed with plastic surgery, I thought the ML was very handsome and he acted his role well. Then there is apparently the criticism of the FL actress who is supposedly horrible at acting, well if she is, it didn't come through in this, I thought she acted well, her facial expression and delivery during the emotional scenes were perfect. There's also apparently no chemistry between them lol again I could not disagree more, I was literally brought to tears over how much they love each other, how beautiful and pure they were, a love 30,000 years in the making. Last but not least was criticism about the 7 lifetimes being too much, well firstly it is the plot of the show so what would you expect? though to be fair I actually had the same thought before watching it which is why it's been on my watchlist for over a year, but those fears proved unfounded as all lifetimes were not only woven together so well but they're all connected and it's all ultimately one love story that connects to 30,000 years ago, especially because they have their memories from each life so it's all one, which is what I was most worried about, that they would keep forgetting each other and thankfully this was not the case. They did the 7 lifetimes in the best way and I feel like each life was given the perfect amount of time. I just love this show and the 2 of them are beautiful ❤️ I made another video of them if anyone is looking for more https://youtu.be/Upkh9MYHY5c I don't know if they're just not showing up for me but I can't find more than 3 edits of this drama on YouTube, I expected there to be countless videos of them!
There seems to be so little love for this drama in terms of YouTube edits? I can't seem to find more than 3 edits, the rest are just OST videos which is surprising, I thought there would be countless edits. I made a video of them, if anyone is interested https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhbe0aTydHw
If anyone else here has made an edit of this drama or know any, please send! I love watching fmv's.
Um I say a big BOO to some of the reviews showing on here, I absolutely loved this, I thought it was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen, the hero and heroine were absolute gold and their love was the stuff that dreams are made of. In fact I've been searching like hell for more Chinese dramas like this with the good old school live or die romances, many Chinese shows of recent years have been ruined for me by going woke and with annoying feminist leads, which is the last thing I want in a romance show to say the least, I just dropped 2 recent ones likes this so I was so glad to discover this and watch it to find out it was not and that the female lead is lovely and so likeable, and the show is the exact reason I fell in love with this dramas to begin with. Just an utterly beautiful love story or should I say 7 beautiful love stories? lol, only these Chinese dramas in all the world have love stories that spans 30,000 years and I love it, and the drama is visually absolutely stunning. I loved this, and I can't understand why the rating isn't higher, actually I can, many people in this world today tend to have bad taste lol.
My favourite life of them all was whichever one when he was Master and she had amnesia but I loved them all, their second life which was the longest was beautiful too, as was their one from 30,000 years ago as was their one when he was a cat demon,.......what a show, what an entertaining beautiful ride. I felt like I watched 7 shows in one, and I loved the ending.
The only thing I hated was the second lead but I've been hating second leads in dramas since 2008 so nothing new here. Although thankfully when I was hating him a lot by the half way point and was wondering how much worse he would get, he didn't, he kind of dropped off the face of the earth in the second half which was great.
Trying to watch it but I can't get into the FL, it's why I stopped watching most new dramas after 2020, I take a chance on some Chinese ones now and again hoping for the best but the mary sue is strong in the FL, and then in ep8 when she says even without him she would save herself *rolls eyes" this is the very stuff that destroyed romance and female characters in western shows, basically FL is smarter than everyone, more capable than anyone, solves everything, never listens to anyone, doesn't need anyone etc. so what is even the point of anything? and I'm only on episode 8, can't imagine how much more OP she is going to get. Characters that don't make mistakes or have weaknesses are boring and this stuff is especially bad in a romance, if ML is willing to die for FL but the FL isn't willing to die for him in return which seems to be the new trend in dramas then it renders the whole romance weak and that's not what I used to watch dramas for.
I have no doubt most here will disagree with me, for some reason many women seem to love these bland "perfect" female characters that outdo men in everything, but I don't. If it wasn't for this I might like the show but as of now it's hard. I miss drama FL pre 2019 so much.
I haven't commented here in months, I haven't logged in on mydramalist in months so it might appear that I had gotten over this show, NOPE! lol not at all, still deeply in love with this and will be watching again soon, and I made a video and I'm quite happy with so I wanted to share https://youtu.be/VkKevJ_bmPA
ALL THAT PAIN, HATERED, LOVE, DIFFERENT TIMELINES, THE CHAOS, BLOOD, TEARS. FOR THAT ENDING?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!…
I never get people being so unsatisfied with the ending, it's literally a happy ending, he died saving the world which showcases his massive and long character development. He went from being broken, abused, unloved, kneeling on the ice, to the emotionally, mentally and physically strongest character in the series as well as the kindest in the series, and that despite all his pain and suffering, he has grown to love the world and dies for that, so this makes sense. Also honestly he suffered so much, more than anyone has ever suffered that him being dead for a while is actually him at peace lol so I get some comfort from that. The end is him basically regenerating, meaning he will come back to life soon with his memories intact and will live happily ever after with Li Susu and their daughter so I am satisfied with the end, it seems that people need to see things themselves to be happy with something, but the ending is literally telling us all will be well. Also to what you said, the difference is, when he died in episode 1 he become the devil lord and killed tons of people, destroyed all the realms and was a villain, hated and unloved.......not really the same as him dying a beloved hero and a husband and father in episode 40. He's character development is the reason for it all. Also their daughter is the daughter of 2 immortals meaning that she isn't normal so she ages very slowly.
I suppose though that when finishing it for the first time it might seem like it was all for nothing, that after all the pain he still died which is frustrating, but after seeing it more you learn to understand why that is, basically him turning into the devil lord was inevitable and the moment her dad opened the all distress path it was inevitable that Tantai Jin would have to make the ultimate sacrifice, so really the entire show was leading up to that, but the difference is who he is as a person. There could never be another outcome than what it was, could they have shown him back to life at the end? yes definitely but they still put the final scene to tell us that will come, there just needs to be so more time passed.
