I’ve just seen an update on facebook that this drama is currently Top #1 on Douban. I’m not familiar with the data but it shows that the drama is doing well in China.
Am I the only one who's struggling to see Gong Jun as Su Mu Yu? Not referring to the acting, I'm only two episodes…
It’s probably you are too impressed and like the portrayal of CHX so it’s hard to forget that. Although I like CHX in DY as well, I think he is too young to portray SMY in this drama so I don’t have that feeling.
I watched the 1st episode. It’s well done like the animation. The fighting scenes are great!
I just wanted to discuss and share my opinion. Su Mu Yu is played by different actors in TBOY and DY, who are all well suited for different time frame of each drama. The actor in TBOY is the oldest and the youngest is in DY and they are only the support role in both dramas. In Blood River, Su Mu Yu is the main character and the drama focuses on his whole story and other related characters. Gong Jun isn’t too young nor too matured so I think he’s a good fit for this role. This is totally different from Ever Night in which Ning Que is the main character and the development of Ning Que is continuous in both seasons.

Gong Jun’s character seems to be misunderstood. Su Mu Yu is forced to be an assassin. He always wants freedom and doesn’t want to be an assassin so he doesn’t suppose to have the killer vibe.
No but he has ties with the same agency which is not good for any artist, safety wise.
As far as I know, Gong Jun has no longer worked with an agency and had his own studio since the early of his career. I’m so surprised that people can make any kind of unbelievable rumors like these!
His character in Anle was not well built and directed and not an anti-hero character. If you want to know how Gong Jun portrays an anti-hero, watch Word Of Honor or this drama.

I think the vibe is darker than the previous two because the drama is stories about leaders of Blood River which is an assassin group. I used to prefer light hearted vibe but after watching My Journey To You which is also story about assassins, my taste has been changed. The dark vibe actually has its own beauty and attraction. If the drama is well made, it can also be successful.

I like Cheng Hongxin in the 3 dramas that you mentioned too. However, I think Gong Jun is very well suited with Su Mu Yu version in this drama because he is more matured and has enough experience to take the lead role and portray the whole story of Su Mu Yu’s life.
