My PTW list is long because I never actually watch anything from it. Just looking at the list is overwhelming and I end up looking elsewhere to find my next drama. I really need to come up with some strategies like you to shorten the list.
Interesting take. I haven’t read the source material. Aside from some of the character names it seems like the show was complete different. Either way, I really liked the drama and the c-drama version you’re proposing, both sound interesting.
There have been some great articles on MDL over the years but this has got to be one of the most creative ones. It must have taken a lot of effort to compile the backstories and significance of all these outstanding ummies. I must also mention another cultural impact of ummies - a fashion icon. When I went to Japan a few years ago, nearly every fashionable lady had one of those transparent umbrellas. Either it’s a part of their culture or something popularized by dramas. Either way, your mission was successful. After reading this article, seeing an umbrella will definitely bring a smile to my face and I will no longer take them for granted. Please please please turn this article into a series. I would love to find out what other unspoken characters I’ve been neglecting.
Wonderful article. Each supporting character brought a lot of value to the story. I like your take on these women and how they represent different stages of life. I never really considered this when I was watching the show but what you wrote definitely makes sense.
Maybe it’s a cultural thing that I don’t understand because I haven’t watched many c dramas but why does FL think of herself as an old lady? She’s only 31 not 60 and has her whole life ahead of her.
So many fantastic, not to mention highly acclaimed/rated dramas on here. In order for the list to be more accurate, you really should be looking at dramas less than 8, which tend to have largely negative opinions. 8-8.5 usually have mixed opinions. Anything above 8.5 are generally well liked, negative opinions are in the minority.
I pay for Netflix and Viki and Dramafever back in the day. The only reason I would ever go through the hassle of illegal sites is when I can’t find a drama on the above platforms. That doesn’t happen very often. I also watch some cdramas on YouTube but they seem to be from the original production company so legal.
This show seems to be loved by everyone. I've watched 3 eps so far. While I like the comedy parts, the rest of it is kind of boring and the episodes are too long. Just wondering at what point does the show get more interesting?
What an excellent and eye opening article. It never occurred to me how much presentism affected how I viewed a historical/ period dramas. My favorite such drama is Faith , a drama that blends the past and present together. I now realise that they took many creative liberties to move the story forward (i.e female doctor who has mythical skills and everyone respects) but I liked it because it suited my modern views. I'm glad that they decided to take it that direction though. Had they not, I probably would not have liked it as much as I did. Once again great article. I will try to keep my bias out when watching these kinds of dramas in future.
Almost every TV series has Romance.. That's a given. But this series is very special, and one of the most iconic…
Haven’t seen it in a long time but I would say between goblin and Itaewon class. The bond between the leads was an integral part of the story but not the focus like touch your heart.
I’m on ep. 5 and it’s pretty good so far. The only thing is I don’t really understand the gaming part. I don’t play. Are we supposed to understand what they’re doing? Is this a real game? I’m not really understanding that part but the graphics are pretty cool.
