from some history books, like -by Warren Carrol, it's shown that males had absolute authority over their households,…
I think this drama portrays how things used to be done in the olden days. All over the world, just like Lanua wrote (above), because of the authority men have over their households, they make themselves the law. Apart from the husbands and the fathers in the drama what about the behavior of the head of security guard they employed, you saw how he treated the women when he knew their was no men in the family protecting them. There are good and bad men. But, when the bad ones are more than the good ones, the society suffers. Even though men have less authority now than they used to have because of awareness and modernization. More women are losing interest in the institution of marriage even though they still believe in love. So, as society suffers in the old days, it is also suffering now. Just like an article, I read last week that says that a particular country in Asia produces fantasy couples and families, yet there are lots of singles and childless young people in the country.
It's so sad to see how women were treated and how desperately they held on to marriages for safety and stability…
It's a new age now, and women know better to stay in an abusive relationship. Moreover, the tolerance level of the new generation is very low. So, women nowadays prioritize their happiness more than anything else. In my country, my grandmother's generation stays in marriages for their children regardless of how they are treated. Only the brave ones leave then for a better future for themselves and their children.
Another thing noted in this drama is how concubines were treated in those days. They give birth to children for legal wives, and they are left with nothing. How can a loving mother bear that sort of pain when they see their children calling someone else "mother" every day? HZ and YX are enjoying the calm before the storm because all hell will break loose once their families are aware of their relationship. But the empress dowager may be the one who steps in and lets the young couple be together because of her relationship with HZ's grandma. YX's dad does not have a say in life decisions because of their rift. However, the emperor will definitely be the "hell-raiser." Did you notice SY and Shen Huan are getting pretty close? I was shocked that YX didn't probe her sister when she mentioned that a friend taught her elephant chess. It's a pity the Shen didn't notice that their younger son have changed his playboy habit. It seems they are not focused on preventing their eldest son from continuing his relationship with the Hua family.
I agree with Silktrees that this drama is among the best. The story is profound and beautifully told. I sincerely commend the writer for sharing this gift with the world. I loved the beautiful moments: one, when the King of Chimei met his daughter on the platform and saw her mother in her eyes; the second, when Shen Li saw the revived Xinzhi in the flower field; and the third when Mu realized he was indeed in love with Ms. Jin. those were remarkably beautiful moments.
he is not simple......many-faced, secretive, sad.... the girl he started to admire, got whipped because of his…
Thanks; I remember now. Only Zhi's family knows that Grandpa dressed her as a page when she was an adolescent so that she could go places with him. Remember the first scene when they were battling the storm? How does he expect Grandpa to reveal the identity of the kid, especially in their present crisis? Why didn't he tell her his true identity if it is so easy? The CP is really a terrible person. You see when he told his men to smash Zhi's market cart just because his father chose cheap pastry over his. How petty!

He sort of messed up there. I didn't know why he brought his men there. He later punished the ones who found the money. If he was just taking them out for show, he should have told them before leaving.. She's going to deal with his sorry behind once she knows he's the security bureau's chief as well as YanXi. Let's wait for the grand reveal. No one can outsmart someone who is out to outsmart you with all sorts of pretense.
I wouldn't say that. In my opinion, He is most definitely into her but very hesitant because he doesn't want her to discover his identity. If not, why does he change his look and visit the woods or the place where he meets her? He spends time with her and helps her with stuff for no good reason. Our boy is building momentum and doing things for her to like him. Also, with her current status, his status as a prince, and the evil, manipulation, and bloodthirsty emperor, there is no future for them. What do you think will happen to their little relationship if she knows he's the emperor's nephew? So, we have to wait and let him win her heart first.
The fight scenes never fails to amaze me. Well done specially with the special effects. Jin niang zi is awesome!…
That was so unexpected. But again, what do you expect from a snake? It would take a divine intervention not to fall for such a temptation. Being intimate would most definitely change their relationship, and I don't think they are ready for the consequences, especially for him. This is what I call a messed-up situation when things are in disarray. In a way, their situation is very sad. Because due to their status, even though they're in love, they can't be together. So sad.
Can someone tell Shen Li not to yield to temptation? Doesn't she know not to eat the forbidden fruit? Doesn't she know their relationship can only be platonic due to their responsibilities?
He means this time! He’s not letting her go or out of his sight anymore!
Perhaps he meant until she gets better, which makes sense. But she still has to return to the immortal realm and him to the divine realm. Or does he have other plans for them? Let's wait and see how he plans to keep her safe by his side.
This is not some cheap ass drama with inexperienced actors. So, wei shenme?
