This is another historical drama that made me go off into further historical research. So this drama took longer for me to watch. The OST is amazing (will post in the Sound track Lovers Club) it has a traditional Korean sound and requires some patience to appreciate as it is played continually throughout the drama. I enjoyed watching all of the characters in this cool friend group ensemble and fell in love with the romance of the story. Not so much the romance of the ML. This drama is probably more of a male centered drama, bromance, martial arts, sword fights with some woman empowerment sprinkled in. I am only disappointed at the story writer's neglect to have serious interest in what type of woman would marry the greatest warrior and martial artist in Korean history. Historically Baek Dong Soo's wife was simply recorded as Lady Yu of the Jinju Yu clan which is unsurprising for the period but the writer of this drama divided her family name into two different women also diminishing her existence. I think dividing up the historical family name of the wife into two women who loved Baek Dong Soo was kinda disrespectful and diminishes the woman empowerment that the writer tried to include in the story. The audience is not wrong to ship Baek Dong Soo more with his childhood friend which is more fitting to the story but the audience have to settle for the cold fish (my name for her) lady. Her feelings for both the ML and SML were also never clear. Prehaps this relationship should have had more attention in the full story if this was going to be the writer's choice or... Or just write one woman. It's totally not like the FL love interest could not just be one multi dimensional character. Lady/ just JinJu. Give that historical woman some respect. I think Baek Dong Soo also deserved a better romance. ππ
Funny and entertaining. I don't wish anything good for this ML. I'm not sure if the audience is suppose to. He's not a likable character. Not in the 1st 5 minutes, not after 20 minutes and not after 50 minutes. I like the FL character. She deserves better. I agree with the mom. I dont know why it's hard to do what he love for income vs. doing absolutely nothing at all. It's probably written, this way because there are people like him in the world for real is annoying. I like the honorable mention of Galaxy Express 999 and a fandom wedding. ππClassic.
Wonderful movie. Very capitvating and romantic. I think it could become a classic to watch especially with the lovely music. I'm glad the couple found a way to be together. ππ
It's so nice to see Li Xian having a great time.. If Li Xian read these articles and see the post I want to tell him to please take care of himself and eat well. I'm just a little concerned about how thin he looks in those pictures. If he is in the U.S. i will cook him a nice feast. So come on over here, baby. πππ€
I know i cant wait for this premiere. It is the only drama that i have watched 3 times and I am always quoting from it. It is the best drama ever made. I have watched many dramas before watching this one and many more afterwards; older and newer dramas. I have found no other writing like this nor a cast of characters that are so memorable that I would want to be apart of their world. Every song on the OST is brilliant. Goblin (Guardian: The Lonely and Great God) is perfection. π
Noble intention, but it's pointless. Just look at some of the braindead turds reacting in this thread. Dumdum…
Thank you. I agree. The'yre totally not good people and pretending like they are without any reading comprehension is insulting to true social justice. It's good to see some fans in the comments also fight back against the slander that the bullies are posting.
I like the character development of the ML. Good job. He is totally unlikable up to the 8th episode. FL deserves better than him. I never thought for one moment that she was a monster or had turned into a monster. He is a selfish jerk. I dont understand how they have two kids but his major in college was finances They cant afford those kids. FL life greatly improved by having her own career and a life that was not just his 24hour servant.
Wishing many blessings for his happy return. It is still heartbreaking to me, what these scavangers did to Lee Sun Kyun and to Kim Sae Ron even though they pretend to care now. They simply just want another sacrifice. Stop the bullying. I will suggest watching the Kdrama Beauty and Mr. Romantic 2024 to help them understand what they are actually doing. This was a very touching drama, showing the consequences of bullying and abuse on celebrities.
During his Twitch stream Yoo Hwan explicitly told his fans NOT to watch this drama cause he hated working on it.…
I think, he is a little too hard on himself. I like his character in this drama. It's good work. The title of the drama is lacking but the drama itself is brilliant writing with a talented cast. Continue to encourage him. ππ
I'm going to say this with 4 episodes to go. No way do people think "Youre Beautiful" is better than this drama. Everyone loves Park Shin Hye but the girl was an unhappy character throughout "Youre Beautiful" and the ML and SML were both not good enough. I cant remember a single song from "You're Beautiful" but I'll always remember Jin Hyuk performance in this drama. The FL, Seung Yun (Go Eun Ah) was likable and more like Eun Chan (Yoon Eun Hye) in Coffee Prince. The ML, Park Yoo Hwan protrayed a lonely ill temperatured prince well. Fans are not left thinking "but hes a really bad guy" like the ML in "Youre Beautiful". The storyline and characters of this drama kept my attention wanting to see what will happen next. Very talented cast. Good job whole cast and screen writer.
Not surprising that the villian is simply excused and forgiven (as usual in these dramas). They go as far to praise the villian for her hard work with empathy. I'm not going into a rant about the villian but I just dont understand how she is getting away with this.
Thank you for your thaughts, people can and will probably make joke that punch the whole way round, but I prefer…
Thank you. Punching down includes making jokes at disabled children. I often question the moral character of people who laugh at any joke and then to actually throw in the question of oppressed groups of people so calliously shows total lacking in conscience.
Although the title of the article mentions inequality, the article focus mostly on addressing whether crossdressing is a punchline but stirred too far from the real hierarchy between genders and within genders. There is a clear societal hierarchy in a patriarchy centered world. While the article mentions that the drama K-Pop, The Ultimate Audition is probably "playing" with the idea that male K-Pop idols have feminine traits, it avoid the subject that some women, also just look like boys. The FL in this drama and in Coffee Prince are examples of that. It goes both ways. I like this trope in Asian dramas, not at all in western entertainment. In western dramas crossdressing is always punching down and are never written well, especially in African American entertainment. It is always written to make a mockery of the black women. So in that aspect Asian dramas are ahead of the curve when it comes to addressing the sensitive subject of equality between genders allowing for more gender fluency. Do I think Christianity in western cultures have anything to do with this? As an American...absolutely. I often find in Asian dramas as seen in Weight Lifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo and The Strongest Devliveryman (mentioned in the article) that the males nor the females are a punchline. The crossdressing humbles the men in response to the clear patriarchal hierarchy of this world. The crossdressing allow the male characters to be carefree from the restrictions of those norms. That is my interpretation. I will say again that I like this trope in Asian dramas only. I feel like I have to be specific here. I think the crossdressing in these dramas serves the purpose and affrims the idea that people fall in love or chose to love no matter what another persons gender is and aknowledges a clear patriarch heirarchy in this world that we live in. I never considered that there maybe viewers who would view the crossdressing in these dramas as just a punchline. What would be the joke?

I'm ok with the ending. π
