IMHO, the MVP is Ji Chang. That old man is amazing both as an actor and as a father in the movie. I was having goosebumps and tears when he did the walk of shame after being fed his own son. The King is the master of gaslighting, he even sort of gaslight the Hu Li Jing into his slave. He plays everyone like a violin.

I'm agreed with you, in wuxia genre Lotus Casebook is way better.

I know since the beginning that we will be serve sad ending. This is wuxia and added war, palace politic cum assassins, the future it's obviously bleak for our team. They are warriors for a kingdom, they are ready to die for their kingdom. I'm sad and feel bad but for me the end is quite fitting. Of course there are many imperfections in the drama but all in all still a great drama.

I especially happy that my CP (YY-LTG) ended up together....😄

Love how much Yang Ying has grown. From an unknown scaredy cat little princess to a strong "prince" who decide her emperor gege's life can't be compared to the lives of the brave soldiers. She is my fav character in the drama. As much as I would love her to ends up with LTG, I know that YY-YL CP is set on stone.

For me all of the characters in MJTY are pitiful. Each of them have their own demon big and small. All of the Young Masters at the back are orphan adopted by The Elders and trained extensively for the clan.

The Gong in the front hill lacking motherly embraces especially the men. As GSJ said, most women in their family died early due to the condition of their residence.

I know GSJ isn't the most expressive person but still DiDi has told her point blank that this is the first time he saw GeGe has a desire of his own which is SGQ. That's what I said DiDi and GeGe done everything in their power to "convince" her to turn coat but she made her choice.

SGQ and DaGe have one thing in common. They were overly focus in taking revenge and their own suffering that they overlooked what little affections cares and loves from people around them. They even not hesitate to sacrifice them as they revenge tools. Both are power house in gaslighting their loved ones.

I have no doubt they have real feeling toward each other but both are level headed people who aren't easily trusting. SGQ received less trust because how the way she conduct herself, the weaved webs of lies she spun made GSJ the smartest guy in Gong Clan questioned her truthfulness. You know how the more a person talks the more holes you find? That's SGQ. SGQ can't trust GSJ because for a person who lies for a living she have a mindset of all people are the same and she knows how great GSJ's mind is.

Both SGQ and YWS have very similar life experiences and received almost the same opportunities in their life. The result turned out vast different was boiled down to the choices they made.

YWS knew nothing about her real family, she was abducted from her fam since young. Her dearest were YQ and her Raven both formed strong bonds. She entered Gong's because she wanna take revenge on Gong who she thought killed YQ and because she wanna free herself from WuFeng. She CHOSE not to went up the rank because she can't bear to shed more blood.

SGQ was forced to join WuFeng, since she gained her memory she has been revenge driven so CHOSE to went under every cruel trial to up rank. The process of the trials in WuFeng is polar opposite with trial in Gong Clan. WuFeng trial deaden the humanity, the higher your rank is the more inhumane is the person but in order to passed Gong Clan trial, a person need more humanity. But SGQ didn't lacked love during the darkest out of her time in WuFeng because we can see that her Raven also cares and loves her even dies for her.

So GSJ put a bet on her when they put on a big show. In the flashback we can see how he looked at her with sadness tinged eyes when he was plotting with DiDi in front of her. I'm sure GSJ is crossing every fingers and toes available for her not to betrayed him. DiDi even set aside his dislike by getting chummy to her and telling her GSJ's trauma. I suspected they really want her to turn coat just like YWS and Lady Wuji. But once again, she CHOSE her own way.

I ran out of excuses to defend her because I did try to understand her but at the end of the day, she is what she is......

SGQ was given a chance to turn coat by both GSJ and GZY during the play of conspiracy. On his sick bed after injured by GZY, GSJ told her and DiDi to help him in the war against GZY and when DiDi said just tell me what to do no need to involves her, GSJ explicitly said certain things only SGQ can do it.

Along the way, DiDi has a heart to heart talk with her and telling her their background story and about GSJ who never have a want personally because he always priority on his fam even emphasized how DiDi is grateful because since SGQ appeared in their life, GSJ for the first time have something for himself. DiDi was implying that she meant a lot to GSJ and IF she also feels the same, she should make a decision. SGQ was touched BUT it's not enough, she went ahead plotting with her handler and The Wangs.

SGQ never looking for a protection from anyone. She bulldozered her way while wearing a horse blind to focus in her goal of revenge and somehow she got lost just like Big Bro whose in his quest to revenge sacrificed people who really loves him. She has grown never to trust anyone and depending only on herself. She has turn on an auto pilot of lying since forever until she doesn't seems to know which and which. YWS lies to saves her skin esp. when she got caught but SGQ is weaving and spreading lies as a trap like a spider casting it's webs.

I have to agree that their ending is perfect. They are done with each other to the point of no return despite there is love between them. SGQ won't hesitate to sacrifice GSJ to reach her goal and GSJ has no mercy to people threaten his fam. During their last sword fight, GSJ was fighting to kill, he shows no mercy.

I saw a trailer with a flash of GSJ kissing SGQ on the bed in the dark but it didn't make it to the final cut though.
