It does not matter when the drama started with the magical book of the king asking his beloved to come back. The drama started with the premise that would be romance, what the novel had does not matter.

The romance and the food are the main plot, the politics is there to move the romance forward, the food took all the time, but not in good way, the competition is kinda ridiculous because we barely saw what they were doing with the food, with camera focusing more on the facial expressions of the Chinese. Also, the point was to show fusion of Korean and French cuisine, but the competition episode took everything to fantasy land, where she mix anything available and that becomes French cuisine, suddenly there is red wine from wild berries in Joseon, and, what a miracle! It tastes like French red wine made with Sauvignon grapes. It is just ridiculous!

The competition kinda stopped the development of the drama, both the politics and romance, in exchange for a predictable and cringe moment with fake Chinese characters and the cooking skills that should be convincing but they are so over the top and far from reality that becomes a bit ridiculous.

I agree, there is some level of maturity that the other drama does not have. I don't think there is any other drama other than this where the couple is this mature and real.

That is just human nature, our brain is just like that. There is an actor, from one of my favorite dramas, western television, that resembles of one ex I personally don't ever want to remember. Sometimes when I crave for this drama I watch but I keep telling myself "no, he is nothing like x" even so I can't like it like I used to. I would recommend you to focus on what he has different, speak out loud, write it down, maybe it will help a bit to recalibrate your brain.

This is my new comfort drama

This drama story is really refreshing. Could be a tropey mess but it is actually engaging and even with the old premise it develops with fresh takes.

It was a good drama, good acting by the leads but, Bai Shu, dear, don't try villains again.

Not only in this comment section, but in comment sections of Chinese dramas in general, people can't criticize a character or some character's actions without attracting a horde of fans of the actors defending their characters as if the criticism was for the acting or for the actor personally. It is frustrating and boring.

The FL knowing all the plot set in the novel and knowing he is the ML she is still against him? Makes no sense, the whole maskerade warrior thing is also dragging the story, we are stuck in this while the actual development with NH is halted. Not a fan of this rote for the drama
