This drama is the best korean drama currently on air and I'm so sad it's coming to it's finaleI enjoyed every…
Agreed! There is romance tho it's subtle which was awesome. Since it shows more as a deep-rooted, spiritual connection those two have. It's the kind of characters that you know will go a long way together.
I wholeheartedly agree with everything you wrote here. You explained it eloquently at that. It was too damn long (the whole ex gf arc was a lame extension) and the romance wasn't rewarding enough, despite the leads' chemistry. I dropped it at episode 10 & i don't intend to pick it up again.
IKR! I couldn't agree more. I rarely ever get SLS either. I'd like to add that the SML seldom shows up first,…
Agreed. That's why i said in my other comment that it's merely eyecandy for viewers/contrived plot device used as obstacle to raise the romantic tension.
Great article! You hit on lot of things I have always felt about second leads. I myself pretty much never get…
IKR! I couldn't agree more. I rarely ever get SLS either. I'd like to add that the SML seldom shows up first, he is never the one that chooses her first, he always realizes his feelings too late, he decides to persue her only when he sees her in love with someone else, he rarely like her initial appearance before the makeover, his personality doesn't match the FL's, he lets himself be stuck in the friendzone, he push himself on the FL to gain sympathy, he thirdwheels his way into the story, he never backs off when told to, he is nice to the FL but always has ulterior motives, he cheeses the unrequited love trope too much, he is the meddlesome/annoying character that clings to an already committed person, even when he gets to date the said girl, she never really looks his way since he's never enough compared to the ML, etc.
Nice article you got there! Tbh the whole SML concept is just contrived eyecandy for the viewers that brings about a lil conflict in the relationship dynamic between the leads. Basically a plot device to ignite some jealousy and competition in the ML and boost the FL's self-worth sometimes. The SML always COMES SHORT of something.. In most romance stories, you could realize who the FL will end up with from the start. They drop hints here & there. The only moment you realize that she'll choose the SML is when he OUTSHINES the ML or when the character appearing first as the "ML" but actually has SML CHARACTERISTICS and vice versa. I really like your analysis since it does make sense. But i'd go further and say i see it as a "fake sense of agency" that they provide to the FL. It's an illusive sense of freedom, since you can already pretty much know through those signals who she'll choose. Everything has already been decided and the swaying in the middle is just a smokescreen to create a lil bit of tension.
Was baffled by the red herrings but by the end i was super glad i watched this short. It was interesting throughout. So Hyun and Yoon Ho's characters were distinctive & memorable. ♥
Yah. I liked 1+2 but now FL is just firking nuts. What is with the character development here.I thought this would…
That kind of development didn't make much sense to me. It's like she's now an all together different character.. The way she handled it was cartoonish so i didn't expect the situation to escalate like in a makjang. The misunderstanding behind it became contrived and draggy. Even her motives are weak esp since her secret was out, the caregiver was kind to her & she met you-know-who..
Fun seeing a Jdorama news post. Been PTW this one. Happy seeing Taishi land a ML role. He has the "puppy lover boy" so i wonder how he'll pull off playaing a "Kira" role.
I freaking loved the ending too! Totally wacky and fitting.
I understand. I kinda feel the same. Couldn't stop thinking about this drama after it ended. It became a favourite of mine as well. It was perfect for dark romance and mystery lovers and i happen to be one.
