This is such a cute & sincere article. I love how your initiation to dramaland was portrayed here. I like how you included your favourite actors, movies and even osts. The Eric Nam gif at the end was the cherry on top.

Right? I used to dislike, but I kinda ship her with Yowaki more than the main lead.
It's not only that he didn't fall for her. She was an entitled, disdainful, self-absorbed egocentric brat. She tried to seduce him because he seemed too average and not interested in her existence, but mainly out of spite & jealousy of Takamine who she realized was in love with him. Glad now that karma hit her right in the face, she's behaving decently and her cuteness is overflowing. She redeemed herself well but the ML is "out" of her league. He's not even playing the game..
I'm shipping her with Charada from the start though since i could sense a connection & because they'd make an interesting pair..

According to the fansubber, we're gonna get 11 episodes, possibly more: https://twitter.com/Luwuang/status/1404155640482828291?s=19
Usually it's 10 but it can also be 12-13. Either way, i'm glad it's not ending yet! ♥

It's taking forever! I feel like we're all patiently waiting for the remaining eps. I love the annoyingly endearing characters, the fun script and the themes dealt with in this one.

My opinion is divided on this "toxicity" you speak of. I'm not interested in a dramaland where ONLY weak/strong…
I appreciate your input & understand where you're coming from. Happened to me with Hwang Jung-eum.. (because of the unnecessarily cringy overacting)
I'd say there's two ways to interpret such "problematic" characters. it's a matter of taste & interpretation.

It's not that romance is offputting but the overreliance on tropes, some of them quite toxic, that makes a lot…
My opinion is divided on this "toxicity" you speak of. I'm not interested in a dramaland where ONLY weak/strong heroines are portrayed. Just like how i'm not looking for pure moral rectitude when i watch stand-up comedy.
In defense of MLFTS, makjang is under NO OBLIGATION to portray ONLY morally righteous, ethically balanced and badass boss women/men. That would kill the artistic expression as a whole.
It's a light-hearted comedy so i TAKE IT AS SUCH. It's not like entitled, narcissistic, egocentric, addiction-ridden but sincere & likeable celebrities don't exist. Despite what "undertones" the story may manifest in the EYES of each viewer.
Despite some legitimate concerns/expectations we may have regarding representations and whatnot.
I personally LIKE her character which was overdramatic, wacko and just out there. Which also kinda justifies her "foolish" choice to be with an alien. It's also interesting to note how the FIGURE OF THE FOOL that ultimately speaks the truth & makes wise choices is present in different artistic works.
It's not also of no value to only seek amazing/foolish characters to portray the human condition. Which were the 1st part of your comment (the overreliance of tropes) comes in handy.
All i'm saying is that comedy relies on FLAWS and entertainment value, which in this case made her character funny & awkwardly relatable in its own whimsical way. (just like Choi Woo Shik's Hogoo) But i acknowledge where it can be a problem and know that it is ANNOYING if every single drama is like that.

It’s not the romance genre that’s an issue, it’s more likely the execution. Romance genre tend to be over…
Voilà! I believe it's now a matter of innovation. We need fresh, fun and compelling romances that speak to us on a human intimate level, instead of washed up hot garbage. I think it's perfectly attainable as a goal. Until then, we can enjoy (like you said) those "little moments that have a huge impact", and eventually celebrate the genius behind some stories in terms of writing, directing, acting..(basically mimesis in all its forms) but also what they can offer in terms of potential expansion and the rediscovery of the romantic "notion" as we know it.

I agree with many of your interpretations but I don't think she decided to marry him b/c she related to his past,…
Well, what i love about that ambiguous ending is that it can be viewed in many ways. I simply saw it as a dramatic reversal & an IRONICALLY poetic ending.
I personally believe that she genuinely identified with his story. She was a victim (of her parents?) until she no longer wasn't. She related to his brokeness (as both a victim/oppressor) She KNOWS knows his "deceitful" heart (since he's extremely similar to hers)
So both their pasts, actions & moral conflicts make sense in this narrative where they obtain what they sought, -through deception & violence- by TAKING it themselves. They are both USING each-other. But i'm also saying is that their relationship is complex and cannot be reduced to just them being "selfish". Both had the exact same ASPIRATIONS. They also recognize evil (that tainted them) but also are able to relate to each-other through it.
I suppose she loved him in her OWN way (which made her happiness) just like he loved her in his own way (despite his contradicting façade). Which they recognized in each-other despite -and thanks to- the "special" twisted relationship they have.
But that "dark love kome" ending also is up for interpretation.. Which makes the drama all the more brilliant imo ♥

Flower of Evil, i'm guessing :D
Yup, exactly. Connotations & semantics i guess hhhh
IKR it's quite the minimalistic -almost reductive- way to put it lol
That's why i edited my rudimentary comment, added "extra words" to fit the details xD

I'm definitely in the opposition, but the main reason is because either the drama or the fans mistake 'romance'…
Enjoyed reading your comment. "I like romance as a genre, I hate the romance genre"
It's indeed quite ambivalent. I see this love-hate relationship with romance as kinda where most habitual viewers are at currently.
Capitalism has both ruined & promoted the genre but there needs to be something more.. Something of substance. A game changer.
I'm saying that revival is possible if we focus more on the potential expansion of the genre as whole, explore new possibilities, turn the washed up formulae on their heads and make the best out of subversive content...
A genre dies if it's not constantly challenged & enlarged to encompass new concepts & notions..

Interesting taste. Kudos to you.I love great dialogues/monologues. However, i'd never stay to watch a 16hrs series…
Ohlala! i'm both honoured and humbled but i did this for amusement. I'm not THAT into writing.TYSM though. I appreciate the appreciation ♥

So attention to detail & communication are taking center stage?
Admittedly, there needs to be some substance for a viewer to invest fully into love affairs.

I might/ might not be guilty of this, admittedly. I dabbled a bit with k-dramas on Netflix after tiring of anime/manga…
Good for you to have found interesting ones to watch.
I've seen a couple of Cdramas and saw how they have some new concepts that aren't present in Kdramaland (for instance Esports..)The way relationships are handled is quite realistic too. Even though some are get weird midway. I plan to watch some mo' (that don't have 10000+eps lol)
Japanese ones though are my favourites for now. Love their format (among many other things).

I love romance dramas, but I prefer the ones that have fewer tropes. And maybe let the characters make some logical…
"fresh, fun, and real" that's what we all yearn to witness more often than not. :3

I think the solution to this lies with both creators and watchers. For creators- My suggestion is to write a character…
Interesting comment! I mostly agree with what you wrote. Both parties are at fault.

The case here is NOT whether romance is popular or not. It is indeed smh disliked and popular at the same time…
Yeah, i assume it to be one of the many reasons that play a role into the drop in writing quality and the disatisfaction of habitual viewers.

Interesting taste. Kudos to you.
I love great dialogues/monologues. However, i'd never stay to watch a 16hrs series just about a couple of people talking in the same set. I'd die from boredom. I see them as filler material that just build up my anticipation for smtg more dynamic.
Though i'd watch the heck out of huis-clos, in one-set philosophical discussion movies but never anything else.

It really is. Probably because an avid romance watcher is oversaturated (from overconsumption) & has seen every trick in the book for an unspeakable amount of time lol
That's prolly why romcoms have a lot of rants & drops..
To be honest, as a romance lover myself, i often catch myself eye-rolling & cringing hard cuz of all the bad writing, repetitive formulae, overacting, forced/contrived situations, etc.
That's why i try to remind myself to lower my expectations & enjoy the experience as it is.
Them writers aren't helping tho so i still suffer from serial-dropping disease lol
