I feel like ji-ah was way out of line in the ending of episode 8, She has no right to go into In-bum's face like…
I agree, but I also think Ji-Ah feels really hurt and betrayed because she was opening up to him, though their relationship is still professional at this point. I expected this reaction from her tbh, since she has been carrying this burden for 20 years. But my sympathies are mostly for In Beom.

I agree with you 100%, She was way out of line to blame in-bum for something he had no control over. I just hope…
I think the make up will happen in the next episode, or next week, because the preview showed In Beom showing up and holding Ji-Ah's hand for an exorcism.

I thought it was implied that Ms Joo had an illegal abortion when young and that's why they say she killed her…
That makes sense too! I am not sure why she would say "children" though. It is still all up in the air, an illegal abortion would make sense still.

Goodness knows what possessed me to watch this frankly very poorly written, poorly executed, and poorly acted drama. 4/10.

After reading all the comments calling it bad, I am very curious... I do like Jung In Sun, I don't really enjoy kdrama romance, but will I watch it to see what the disappointment is about? Yes, maybe.

These theories could be completely wrong, but I like how the drama keeps us speculating and introducing new variables that makes the case more complicated. I hope the revelations will surprise us and will be consistent with the plot! Second half, don't disappoint us!

So these are the few theories I have gathered from different comments from different platforms about the murder 20 years ago:

- Based on the ep. 9 preview, it appeared Hong Ji-Ah was possessed or bewitched and thus ended up being either shot, exorcised, or jolted awake from her trance. Given that, a viewer has speculated that HJA was the real murderer 20 years prior so had distorted, misleading memories from that incident, which is also why Ms Joo is hiding the truth. And that Mum's ghost is lurking to protect HJA from other ghosts. But this does not explain how HJA has been safe from possession in all her cases since the beginning of her career (except an instance of being bewitched, but that's a different phenomenon) and how HJA was exorcised after murdering her mother.
- Another viewer said that Ms Joo murdered her own children because she was possessed by a spirit that murdered them, and her detective friend took to her to DBR to get exorcised, but this resulted in HJA's mother's death. But this theory does not explain why HJA remembers the Uncle choking her mother and In Beom remembers the opposite. Also, the Uncle was most likely poisoned by the chairman in the hospital after forcing him to sign the memorandum.
- In my opinion, the murder is connected to a case in 1979 - perhaps HJA's ancestor attempted to exorcise an egg spirit at the time and had records explaining the process. If HJA gets her hands on that, it could trigger a possibly disturbing memory I am assuming Ms Joo is trying to protect her from. I still think the murder is connected to the egg ghost for there to be the connection with the chairman - his order to burn down the shanty down resulted in the egg spirit after all. I am assuming the mother was possessed by the egg spirit, and was exorcising it in a way the memories won't be absorbed by the exorcist, which is why she even requested HJA to stab her with the needle. Unless HJA's memories are completely misleading...

For the pool ghost, she did have cool breath and did know where it was, but yes, surprise could be a factor.

He should have told her sooner who he was. I think that's what she's (rightfully) angry about.
That's valid. But putting all the blame on him for what happened is wrong.

The ending of episode 8 was painful. We saw HJA and In Beom's relationship progress, both acknowledging each other for things they are insecure about, doing little things for each other out of concern. And In Beom made heart eyes at Ji Ah at more than one occasion - when she was in that big jacket, looking "cute", when she was chasing the child spirit, when she called him a good person (which is a LOT coming from her), and when he held her hand. HJA cracked a smile twice because of him. THEN BAM!!! HJA unloads her pent up rage, and there goes everything they built. In Beom was so HURT - he did not deserve to be blamed for something he had no control over - he was just a child! He was FINALLY learning to accept being a medium, but now he is cornered like he always was as a child. I feel for him.

This show keeps on getting interesting, and I am really enjoying the world building! Secrets are not being dragged out and new things keep getting uncovered, especially regarding HJA. I also like that there is a third person perspective to the mystery - the detective. So far, we have witnessed events through memories of HJA or the spirit of the Uncle, and not from someone who is not connected to the events 20 years ago. An impersonal investigation gives another angle to the narrative which keeps it refreshing.

But then there is the problem of how Ji Ah hasn't been possessed when she goes to assess haunted properties all alone, with very powerful spirits. Furthermore, exorcists get bewitched, though the possession is not too far fetched an idea if they are virgins-- and the preview for the next episode hints at her possession. Yet, I think there must be something else at play here.

+ I'm a little confused about the fire? Was he contracted to burn down the building by the construction company…
Given the memorandum chairman made Uncle sign, the latter must have burned the place down at the order of the chairman to secure an apartment for himself and his family. He probably did not know there were people inside, given he was a generally kind hearted person according to In Beom.

It will also give them the time to seek closure and it is a good conclusion to the first half: they have officially started investigating the case. It also shows how far both have come in their relationship - if In Beom were just someone else, Ji Ah wouldn't have lost her calm.
