I had to basically guess that there was a connection between them. But then the Eunuch killing Consort Yang out of no where was just absurd with no explanation! And zero redemption for the people that were unjustly killed… Infact Consort Yang who instigated the majority of the troubles still retained her title post-humously and was merely killed during the struggle… WTF!!! I feel like the editors got bored mid edit and just decided to throw random scenes together!! But yes if you have a link to the book pls share 🙏🏾

An actor is only as good as the script he’s given! I’ll first of all commend the actors on this… they did an amazing job with such a lackluster script with very little direction! I’m still very much confused as to what I’ve just spent 54 episodes watching! I’m going to finish it not because I enjoyed it but because of curiosity. But you know the saying “curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back to life”! The unfortunate part people miss is that the cat had to die first to gain satisfaction and I don’t believe the satisfaction from this is worth death! It truly was death watching this! It felt like self torture! I’m still very much confused as to what this drama was about! It is definitely not a romance though they tried to pain it as that! It’s almost like a faux badly written Shakespearean tragedy with no actual plot. Just confusing characters that really did not add anything to the actual plot line. Once they died they were not missed, Why? Because they held very little significance to the overall story they were trying to portray! The initial love story got lost in all the random side characters that held no value! This drama could have done a 24 episode run and would have been good! But to have 55 episodes and remain mediocre, I want my actual time back! So I’ve now watched a story with about 5 different plot lines which all in all don’t add to the general larger story which I’m not too sure we all know what the wider story is about. Is this a love story? No! Because the FL and ML spend 90% of the production apart!And are continuously separated but irrelevant characters and have very silly disputes throughout the show. If it is a love story, it’s a love story on how the FL loves rules and feels duty bound to people and situations that hold very little advantages for her but out of sheer luck she gets rewarded for her bravery! She’s more in love with her righteousness than she is in love with the ML it’s exhausting! Is it a story about an inadequate crown Prince? Partly! But the build up of the friendship between Chen Ji and the CP I don’t believe held the value it was portrayed to hold to be able to cause the level of disruption that it ended up causing! The CP is initially portrayed in the first few scenes and strong and decisive only to be a fool who is easily led astray by others and please do not get me started on the Crown Princess! What a big big fool! Is it a story about revenge? In some aspects but the multiple separate revenge plots held no value to whatever the deeper story was trying to portray! Fu Tao was already avenging their mother but Fu Yin felt the need to enter enemy camp and become a concubine and what fell in love with her mothers murderer? So wait… she left the life her mother wanted for her which was to marry an official (which Du Ning had achieved )and live happily ever after , only to go seek revenge which was only to torture herself? Make it make sense! Probably one of the most pointless characters in the drama… the logic of her character made zero sense to me! Absolutely pointless! The Fu Shui revenge I still don’t understand because what exactly was his relation with Chen Ji? I’m still very confused! And how, just HOW did this random commoner come into the East Palace and control so much without anyone batting even an eyelid but all other information was getting back to the Empress and Emperor but this random man exacting revenge all over the place and disrupting things and KILLING PEOPLE failed to get back to them ? Just confused! Oh and Yan Zifan … WHAT WAS HIS PURPOSE!?! Was he good or bad? For someone who claimed to love Fu Rou so much, he was quick to harm her ! I don’t know I’m sick of writing now, I could go on and on but it was just so confusing to sit through! Oh and Consort Yang… that build up did not exist! No signs, just randomly becomes a villain and was working with FuShui the whole time? Anyways watch at your own convenience but I wouldn’t say this is a must watch as it is a boredom watch! The actors cannot be faulted for the script they were given and given the material they had to work with, they did a great job.

I’m on episode 13 and I’m already feeling this way. It’s making no sense ! For someone that knows what the future holds, she’s too SLOW AF atm ! The 5th Uncle is ANNOYING! And her Father is unbearably weak ! Some of the plot lines like the house arrest makes no sense to the character but just fits with the story and serves a purpose but for someone who has no issue speaking up against the evil stepmother why would you accept an unjustified punishment? Especially when you have no plan or reasoning to accepting it! I don’t know… I hope to become convinced but so far they kind of had me … now they’ve lost me!

THIS!! I did this research as well after first watching the drama. It’s sad that he died 10 years after though, but after doing the research the dynamics between mother in law and FL are understood so much better ! The lady that played Empress Dowager 👏🏾👏🏾 A huge Bravo because it seems like she IS the same woman due to the historical description of her ! She played her PERFECTLY !

You’ll see as the drama goes along that her bias toward YZP was due to her being from lower classes! You’ll also note that SYH didn’t earn any of her achievements the way the other two did… so imo I would say YZP arrogance was warranted because she earned everything… SYH was given every just cause, hence she never learned her lesson until it was too late. I only noticed about SYH when I watched the show again recently. But you’re right YZP was ANNOYING!!! Like an IRRITANT and I wished so much YZJ would have just stood her ground at least ONCE rather than let YZP push her!

I’m gonna look out for those scenes but I definitely remember the scene with the argument at the end! I found that so precious lol!

I think that’s the beauty of this story because initially you don’t see them together at all! You’re wondering like how 🤔 but they don’t shove it or force it in our faces, we see the natural progression and growth of each character. I think the moment he fell in love with her was when she advised him to try and do more with his life for the sake of his daughter. You know when their ship was ambushed! I’ll tell you scene and EP when I get there but that’s when I think he fell for her in a romantic way.

That truly enraged me !! Lol I’ve started rewatching and oh my, Minglan’s Mum death… truly painful! They didn’t even let her have a drop of water .

Yes I completed and understood their tactics but I thought that was a very dangerous game to play considering she was like 8 months pregnant and the medical care then is nothing compared to now! Like they literally played with her life and the life of their children just to fish out the evils! I think the Empress Dowager who was behind it all should have had a worst punishment! I mean for someone who lived through her own husbands attempted over throwing, for her to know what that concubine was planning or if she was behind it, I’m not too sure but to not do anything about it was WICKED behaviour! I mean she pulled the strings!

That Maid element I chose to ignore because honestly I was IRATE! I mean she started that fire !! How could she escape!!! Honestly made me so mad! With regards to Milan, I feel like she got her just desserts in the end! Her husband literally had an affair with her maid and she lost her baby and couldn’t give birth! In those days, I think humiliation within elites was more punishment than any physical harm could have done. What she wanted the most, Status, became her punishment in the end. But in terms of her family accepting her, I mean, in the end, she ended up almost being outcasted by her whole family but they chose to still accept her, I think that would make her change her ways in the end. So there was a redeeming arc there IMO

You mean wait a couple of weeks right? Lol. Dramaland is full at this time of the year so I’m going back to the classics, I will be rewatching again by next week. It’s really a comfort drama. 😂😂

This is my second attempt at watching this, now on episode 5 and I have no idea what’s going on! I already rated this a 5 from my first attempt at watching it but I way decrease my rating even further. SML is ANNOYING! STALKER MUCH? You met her for half a second ten years ago, GET A GRIP! If this show doesn’t get a move on by the end of this episode it’ll be dropped because I’m bored now. It’s beginning to become a waste of time! And I love PMY!!!

I forgot to mention, yes there is a separation period when ML’s arrogance gets the better of him but even in that he still shows love to her. It’s at this point he understands her fully though so this aspect was necessary considering the overall plot. Honestly if you take the time to grasp the plot fully, as I mentioned, this one is a gem of a drama!

I wouldn’t really call it a love triangle but it’s a Palace drama so it’s basically the crown princess trying to rekindle her relationship with the crown Prince (ML) after years of her being selfish and not showing him any affection but the when FL comes and from warnings from her family member who is a supervisor in the kitchen where FL works, she changes her mind but by that time CP isn’t interested and his full focus is on FL! The main issue between Crown Princess and FL is how their histories entertained because FL should have been Crown Princess but due to lies told by current crown princess family, and her leaving the palace it’s taken from her so it’s a story of her trying to also find her identity when she was basically bred to be a noble , future Empress ! So you could say FL didn’t know anything else but to love him, she’s always loved him but he didn’t recognise her this she held back her love and wanted him to recognise and understand her… it’s actually a very beautiful story if you take time to understand it! The culinary genius in it just amazing! I’m going to go watch it again now after talking about it lol. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Because people are haters! It’s honestly in my top 5 dramas that I enjoyed most. Always puts a smile on my face

EP. 73- Final Comments. A good Show.

But I still stand by my previous statements! That filler storyline was outstandingly unnecessary! I’m not satisfied with how Minniang died! After humiliating him at every chance she got, those lies that were spewed, the public defamation, I don’t know maybe I’m sinister and I require a more gruesome and torturous end for those who wrong me, but that’s me.
The Father and his obsession with Reputation !!! Great comedic element but my goodness!!!
The Wang Old Madam… I WANTED MORE!!!!!!

But overall a Good Show! Very entertaining! Kept me captivated for all 73 episodes without skipping! Even when I was frustrated!
Great watch for the patient!!

This Emperor must have forgot when he was afraid to take the throne!!! I’m actually quite irritated by these last few episodes!
