i'm so confused as to how you ruined the girls reputation, got your wish to marry the girl you wanted against your mother's wishes i might add and now because she saved you you're in love with her and want to destroy her relationship that she was forced to get into all because of what you did to her... And wait YOUR MOTHET HAD PLANNED FOR YOU TI MARRY HER TO BEGIN WITH!!!! At this point this story is honestly back ground noise. I like DYX and i'm honestly only watching it for him but i'm over it now. The reviews are FIBBING!

I just finished ATC and the comments were saying this is good... I'm still waiting for the good. It started okay, i'm on ep.15 now and still giving it a chance but it'll soon be dropped as I have more important things to do with my time. The last drama pairing of ML and FL was dropped as well. They just always have this slow burn chemistry that's annoying to watch. So far, I don't understand the motivations behind all the attacks rendered on FL, apart from that in there just seem to be so many holes like the scriptwriters write a plot point and then forget about it. Is that Yu guy just a privileged sadistic devil because WHAT DID FL EVER DO TO YOU!?! His schemes are diabolical and unnecessary. Another thing I must mention are the very unrealistic transitions of FL's character ... so within 6 months, an ULTRA RICH privileged girl went from a destructive scandal to becoming a teacher !?! Like the in between from when she was walking the dessert to meeting the 19th master to being in Ganlin town, all of that seems extremely unrealistic even for a cdrama... like there were zero developments, just jumps and holes in the plot. How did she get to the first town and know where madam Yu lived ? HOW!?!

I'm the same. It's honestly just background noise for me atm. Like i don't get the motivations or the fixated nature of all the villains against FL and then ML. Like Why? They did LITERALLY nothing to you. Like the YU guy DESTROYING her like that all just because he didn't want to marry her? LIKE COME ON that's a bit much but then the arrogance to continue and want to KILL ML who did nothing to you but save the person you didn't want to marry!?! Like you've ruined her perfect like already, why continue!?! and don't get me started on that annoying widow and her brother... i don't know i'm honestly just watching for DYX but not sure i'll continue. Their last pairing with FL i dropped as well.

Agree with everything everyone said here. Their love was predestined. But i think there's room to also state that she wasn't a very male centred character. I don't think she truly cared. Because remember in the first episode when she was SJL, the amulet she had in carriage with her mother and her mother teased her about making the amulet for her fiancé LJQ, but infact the amulet was for her parents not for him at all. I think that showed us we had a very intelligent dutiful young woman who was ready to accept the life she was to have, but then when the tragedy happened to her family she decided to live well and live for herself. She was the most important part of her own story and nothing could have changed that.
I think the love between them shows that truly love doesn't necessarily play out the way we believe it will, but theirs was a fated love. It was soft, gently, assertive, built on solid foundations. The moment she saved him from HL's final fate was the moment I believe we the audience should understand that she cared for the man deeply. And like you said, her expressions speak her mind not her words. The only time we see that she truly let herself go was when she was drunk with him that first time and that's where he fell in love with her. Otherwise she was extremely composed. I loved their relationship.

HL was her parents choice she actually never indicated anywhere that she liked him like that but she was content with their friendship and didn't mind being happy to him if it made their parents happy. she didn't indicate anywhere that she chose hun. But you're right emperors definitely kept taking from her in different ways.

I think the last couple of times I gave 10/10 on everything was Love like the Galaxy and Story of Minglan ... Two dramas i frequently rewatch yearly. I believe this is now added to the list of yearly binge rewatch and i cannot wait to learn something new i missed out on during my first watch.
FL really LIVED. She Lived for HERSELF! And she Lived for her Parents because she embodied the child they lost and brought back through her and when she had kids, she lived for her children. She lived Long and she lived well, just like her mother wanted.

I wrote a comment here that she should've just forgiven ML for what he did, but after watching the full series, I
understand now. He was selfish. He acted on his own wants without considering her. People might say the story is female centric, but what is wrong with that? Women are very powerful and FL embodied kindness, brilliance, and awareness. The parrallel between ML and HL in the end lets us understand that HL and FL could have never been together. In the end HL always wanted that scholarly fame, the notoriety, however I do think that the imperial decree that ML received was his villain arc story even though he wasn't a villain. It awakened in him the understanding that the powerful always win.., and his ending also attested to that. His story is probably the most tragic parallel in the whole drama. The sisters, their growth, the Karma for 3rd sister in law was chefs kiss 😂😂😂 Also the elevation of all her friends. I loved how they replayed the life of every person that died at the point of their death. Just a master piece of work. I'll back again in a few years and open up a discussion about a new found understanding with this drama lol. I hope you've all enjoyed it as much as I have.

No words. I don't need to review this, this was an experience. An indescribable experience of life through film. Strange that even in today's world, we're all really just trying to survive. Survive the domino effect of people's self interest. Survive for our children and their generations and build them a legacy, all whilst maintaining our integrity. This honestly is a master piece of intricate story telling. Shen Jialan's grandfather chose his integrity at the cost of his family, Jin Qi's grandfather chose his family also at the cost of his integrity. The universe has a way of making sure that what will be, will be even if the road may be longer, the universe's intent is stronger and the winds will surely blow you in the right direction. One of the Best C-Drama's I've seen in a long time. I love how the ongoing history and the eventual downfall of the Ming is a backdrop to the story of how the decisions of ministers and emperors greatly affect the lives of the common man. The death of Han Liang BROKE my HEART. That symbolism... Honestly and Loyalty in life can sometimes lead to death, I believe... just tragic. And the fierceness of the pirates... Those fights scenes! One you raise your sword, you can either be killed or live! Just WOW! AMAZING Drama! BRILLIANT ACTORS! 10/10 on all of it! SOUNDTRACK, PRODUCTION, ACTORS, SET, CINEMATOGRAPHY JUST BRILLIANT.

I'm on ep.34 and FL is starting to STRESS ME TF OUT!!! No man is an Island. Like I understand what he did was wrong, but at this point babe you have no choice and at the end of the day, HE WAS WHOYOUR PARENTS CHOSE FOR YOU TO MARRY!!! Can you not think of it as destiny? Like yes what his family did was also wrong at that time, but that was his family not him, like you, he had no choice in the decision. This cold shoulder because he CHOSE YOU in the end, when you were a commoner he CHOSE YOU, without even knowing the real you, like sis, with all the information you have, would you not love him more knowing what you know!?! Like let's be for real, did you actually want to marry scholar Han? What are you going to do, live on opera and vibes for the rest of your lives? Get a GRIP! The cold shoulder is annoying now, he's trying, you've been married for over a year at this point, get over it or confide in him!He's not the one that condemned your family, and yes he was wrong for getting the edict, but like i said with all the information you have that he doesn't know... surely, that's cause for admiration.

It looks so similar especially the family house the front of it and also the servants house at the beginning with the bridge directly in front of it, looked like the house Erlan put his nursemaid and his children. They must have taken inspiration because it's sooo similar

I had to basically guess that there was a connection between them. But then the Eunuch killing Consort Yang out of no where was just absurd with no explanation! And zero redemption for the people that were unjustly killed… Infact Consort Yang who instigated the majority of the troubles still retained her title post-humously and was merely killed during the struggle… WTF!!! I feel like the editors got bored mid edit and just decided to throw random scenes together!! But yes if you have a link to the book pls share 🙏🏾

An actor is only as good as the script he’s given! I’ll first of all commend the actors on this… they did an amazing job with such a lackluster script with very little direction! I’m still very much confused as to what I’ve just spent 54 episodes watching! I’m going to finish it not because I enjoyed it but because of curiosity. But you know the saying “curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back to life”! The unfortunate part people miss is that the cat had to die first to gain satisfaction and I don’t believe the satisfaction from this is worth death! It truly was death watching this! It felt like self torture! I’m still very much confused as to what this drama was about! It is definitely not a romance though they tried to pain it as that! It’s almost like a faux badly written Shakespearean tragedy with no actual plot. Just confusing characters that really did not add anything to the actual plot line. Once they died they were not missed, Why? Because they held very little significance to the overall story they were trying to portray! The initial love story got lost in all the random side characters that held no value! This drama could have done a 24 episode run and would have been good! But to have 55 episodes and remain mediocre, I want my actual time back! So I’ve now watched a story with about 5 different plot lines which all in all don’t add to the general larger story which I’m not too sure we all know what the wider story is about. Is this a love story? No! Because the FL and ML spend 90% of the production apart!And are continuously separated but irrelevant characters and have very silly disputes throughout the show. If it is a love story, it’s a love story on how the FL loves rules and feels duty bound to people and situations that hold very little advantages for her but out of sheer luck she gets rewarded for her bravery! She’s more in love with her righteousness than she is in love with the ML it’s exhausting! Is it a story about an inadequate crown Prince? Partly! But the build up of the friendship between Chen Ji and the CP I don’t believe held the value it was portrayed to hold to be able to cause the level of disruption that it ended up causing! The CP is initially portrayed in the first few scenes and strong and decisive only to be a fool who is easily led astray by others and please do not get me started on the Crown Princess! What a big big fool! Is it a story about revenge? In some aspects but the multiple separate revenge plots held no value to whatever the deeper story was trying to portray! Fu Tao was already avenging their mother but Fu Yin felt the need to enter enemy camp and become a concubine and what fell in love with her mothers murderer? So wait… she left the life her mother wanted for her which was to marry an official (which Du Ning had achieved )and live happily ever after , only to go seek revenge which was only to torture herself? Make it make sense! Probably one of the most pointless characters in the drama… the logic of her character made zero sense to me! Absolutely pointless! The Fu Shui revenge I still don’t understand because what exactly was his relation with Chen Ji? I’m still very confused! And how, just HOW did this random commoner come into the East Palace and control so much without anyone batting even an eyelid but all other information was getting back to the Empress and Emperor but this random man exacting revenge all over the place and disrupting things and KILLING PEOPLE failed to get back to them ? Just confused! Oh and Yan Zifan … WHAT WAS HIS PURPOSE!?! Was he good or bad? For someone who claimed to love Fu Rou so much, he was quick to harm her ! I don’t know I’m sick of writing now, I could go on and on but it was just so confusing to sit through! Oh and Consort Yang… that build up did not exist! No signs, just randomly becomes a villain and was working with FuShui the whole time? Anyways watch at your own convenience but I wouldn’t say this is a must watch as it is a boredom watch! The actors cannot be faulted for the script they were given and given the material they had to work with, they did a great job.

I’m on episode 13 and I’m already feeling this way. It’s making no sense ! For someone that knows what the future holds, she’s too SLOW AF atm ! The 5th Uncle is ANNOYING! And her Father is unbearably weak ! Some of the plot lines like the house arrest makes no sense to the character but just fits with the story and serves a purpose but for someone who has no issue speaking up against the evil stepmother why would you accept an unjustified punishment? Especially when you have no plan or reasoning to accepting it! I don’t know… I hope to become convinced but so far they kind of had me … now they’ve lost me!

THIS!! I did this research as well after first watching the drama. It’s sad that he died 10 years after though, but after doing the research the dynamics between mother in law and FL are understood so much better ! The lady that played Empress Dowager 👏🏾👏🏾 A huge Bravo because it seems like she IS the same woman due to the historical description of her ! She played her PERFECTLY !

You’ll see as the drama goes along that her bias toward YZP was due to her being from lower classes! You’ll also note that SYH didn’t earn any of her achievements the way the other two did… so imo I would say YZP arrogance was warranted because she earned everything… SYH was given every just cause, hence she never learned her lesson until it was too late. I only noticed about SYH when I watched the show again recently. But you’re right YZP was ANNOYING!!! Like an IRRITANT and I wished so much YZJ would have just stood her ground at least ONCE rather than let YZP push her!
