If he grew up in the rural area in Japan he just might not be exposed to this information. I didn’t know that either until I came to the US back in a day and then couple of years later I learned what being gay meant. I was around 22. So it really depends on his environment and also on his character and temperament. He’s not very outgoing and very naive. Is it maybe exaggerated here? Possibly so, but I don’t think it’s too exaggerated. Everyone’s experience is different, and I think they are portraying one of those experiences.

It’s not only about Taishin being naive. He feels threatened and is scared, but he doesn’t understand why since he’s very sheltered and doesn’t know that men can be attracted to men. So in his mind his fear is irrational and if he calls the cops he won’t be able to explain it and they won’t believe him. Like, what will he say? “There’s this pudgy uncle who brought me chicken for dinner and has been nice to me and he wants to have dinner with me and is outside my door”? So who will believe him?
That’s what is in his mind. He doesn’t want to call his mom for the same reason, besides, what can she do from miles away? So he calls Takara - he made the right choice with everything going through his brain under high stress. Unfortunately, I’ve been in a similar situation but I was much, much younger than him. And the first thought is that nobody will believe you. So I think he did great in this situation.

I love Cher! I wish they did a series about Yei and Cher. Theoretically, they have their own book, but I don’t think it’s translated.

It feels like they need a translator when they try to communicate. Their styles are so different that they might as well be speaking different languages, and not even from the same linguistic family at that. It would be interesting to actually have a mediator there who would translate for them and the light bulb going off for both when they finally comprehend! 😂

It reminds me of the scene in Lovely Writer where the creepy editor lady insists Gene adds more and more sex scenes to his script 🤦‍♀️ which makes me wonder - are those authors themselves that crazy with raping people, or the editors think their audience is that crazy and won’t buy the novel without rapey stuff? 🧐

I hope so too. I have seen the comments for My Stand-in, and dropped the novel right away. I am glad series avoid these tropes. I honestly don’t understand what is wrong with these women. Holy shit! Thank you for letting me know. I hate rape tropes with passion. I kinda knew it would be there just because I read Beloved Enemy and regretted it. That’s why I try to avoid BL novels - somehow, authors think it’s ok to use this trope left, right and center 🤦‍♀️

I know it’s happening unfortunately, and I think it’s good that the mangas and series tackle this issue and put it on display. I hope there’s something in the laws of any country (in this particular case - Japan) that makes the parents who dump their kids on their relatives pay the child support on a regular basis. At least that. Raising a child is pretty expensive (emotions aside), so they should at least provide financial support.

That’s a bit of a wrong equation though: she already had 1 child (her child). The other 2 came into the picture later. So if she couldn’t deal with two more kids she shouldn’t have married a guy with kids 🤷‍♀️ To me, you don’t discard your own kid for some dude and his kids. If you fall in love with a guy with kids - nothing wrong with it, just make a larger family with your kid and his in the mix. But throwing away your kid - that’s just something so low in my opinion 🤯
