The female lead does end up in a relationship, it's an important subplot to the story, and I would say their relationship is very positive and charming. But there is almost no physical affection between them, and no kissing, so if that's important to you, then this drama's romance might be disappointing.
Ho. Ly. Cow. This drama was amazing. And how did all of you who watched this back in 2016 survive the last however many years without a season 2??? I would have felt like I was dying, lol.
I know Lee Seung Gi had the reputation in the industry of being a good guy, but you can't really know what people are like when you've only ever seen through a screen. The way he has stayed true to Lee Da In though has really illustrated his character and makes me really respect him. As for Lee Da In, I feel immense sorrow for what she has had to go through being completely innocent of any wrongdoing but being labeled a villain because she is the child of someone who committed criminal acts. Whatever happens for both of them in the industry, I hope they go on to have a beautiful, life-giving marriage.
I haven't seen the anime yet, but I'm reading the manga, and it's so soft and sweet and charming, even if the male lead has been a bit of a bland character. (No hate, cause he's also still super swoony, lol.) Granted, I haven't gotten to the volume where we learn more of his backstory, so that might change my opinion of him. I just love the leads together, and I like the deaf representation in the story.
The performances were all great, but I found the pacing of this movie to be really odd. The first half felt out of place and maybe a bit slow? And the second half felt like the plotline of a full movie that was sped up. I watched it for Seo In Guk, and he was fabulous as always, but the story left me disappointed.
me too! do you know any other drama with similar plot or personality to the couple?
The plots and characters in these dramas aren't necessarily similar to the plot and characters of Neechan no Koibito, but I think the following dramas have a similar feeling to them/leave you with a similar feeling:
~Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu (We Married as a Job/The Full Time Wife Escapist) (Jdrama) ~Fight Song (Jdrama) ~Shizuka-chan to Papa (Jdrama) ~Marry Me! (Jdrama) ~Koi Desu: Yankee-kun to Hakujou Garu ~From Me to You
I try to avoid speculating on the internet about other people's problems/behavior, because what do I know? I'm just a stranger with an opinion. But I've suspected for some time now that something deeper was going on in her life, and this really is confirmation. First, there was the inappropriate age gap between her and her costar in Hi! School - Love On. I have always been kind of shocked be that casting decision, and it was the main reason I chose not to watch the show. Now that I'm a much older adult, I look at that decision and wonder what was going on behind the scenes with the adults charged with looking out for her well-being.
Then she had the drunk driving accident, and I felt pretty sure there had to be some pretty deep mental health problems going on. It was really very sad to watch people maliciously tear her down when it happened. She absolutely needed to face legal consequences, step back from acting for a time, etc. But the vitriol with which some people talked about her online, including on kisskh, was terrible.
Now, she's gone. And I'm just sitting here wondering what was potentially going on behind the scenes in her life that we don't know about.
(For context for anyone unaware, the age gap between her and her male costars in Hi! School - Love was 10 and 11 years, respectively. One of the actors was 23 and the other 24 to her 14. Out of curiosity, I pulled up her MDL profile a few minutes ago, and in her drama Mirror of the Witch, the gap got even wider. She was 16 to the male lead's 28. (I believe this drama was a romance as well.) So that's a ten, eleven, and twelve-year age difference between her and three separate romantic male leads. Seriously, who okayed both of these casting decisions?)
I attempted a rewatch of this drama last year, as I've been in a rewatching kick of my previous faves (and some second chance dramas) for a few years now. I was really into this drama the first time I watched it. (I think I might have watched it while it was airing?) And I really have to ask past me one question...
What was I thinking???
I tried to finish for the sake of the female lead (I can't overstate how much I love her and relate to her struggles), but the romance was so bad. I wish Dok Mi had ended up with Jin Rak instead. His method of approaching her is ineffective, but he's incredibly thoughtful and sensitive to her needs, and there was plenty of room for him to grow as a character and recognize the flaws in his approach. Enrique is just a hyper-active man-child whose behavior is not attractive at all.
No hate to anyone who likes this drama, but this was one of the few cases where I rewatched a drama I once loved and was very disappointed in past me's taste.
I read the title of the drama and thought it was going to be a spin-off of Park Bo Young/Kim Seul Gi's Oh My Ghost drama from 2015. Now I'm a little disappointed it isn't, lol.
Tried to watch this, and it's very funny, but the sexual humor at the female lead's expense is gross and unnecessary. Can't say I'm surprised by it, but I am disappointed.
Just finished rewatching this, and it was a fun time. I watched it the first time years ago and never watched the last ep, because I didn't think the leads had chemistry with each other, but I definitely have to disagree with my past self after this rewatch. The drama is definitely of its time, but it's got great comedy, and I like the leads, together and apart.
I also kept thinking of Gun from Fated to Love You everyone time Dok Go Jin laughed. As much as I liked Dok Go Jin's laugh, I think Gun did it better, lol.
I know drama posters definitely can influence my choices, but I don't know that I've ever watched a drama based…
It's interesting how you found the poster for Legally Romance uninspiring, cause I kind of like it, and I'm sure that helped influence my decision to watch the drama at least a little bit. I don't know that the poster made me want to watch it, of course, but I think the poster is pretty and well-laid out, so it did give me a positive impression. Of course, now that I've watched the drama, I can fully admit that the poster doesn't really tell you much about the story. I think it does convey the fantastical element well, but it doesn't really tell you anything else. (Luckily, the drama is a ten out of ten for me, lol.)
With the exception of one drama, I haven't seen any of the other's you both mentioned, so thanks for making my to-watch list longer, lol. (No shade. I'm always happy to add another drama to the list, lol.) I have, however, watched Fated to Love You, and I absolutely love it. There are definitely heavy, sad aspects to the story which might not be for everyone, but I still think it has some good, consistent comedy. (I can see how the heavy parts might overshadow the humor for some viewers though.)
I know drama posters definitely can influence my choices, but I don't know that I've ever watched a drama based solely on the poster. (Maybe when I was a new drama watcher and didn't know better?) I usually do one or a combination of the following:
~Read the story synopsis so I know what the drama is actually about. (I pretty much always do this, because how do I know the story is something I would even be interested in otherwise?) ~Look at the lead actors and actresses. (I don't only watch dramas with actors and actresses I like. I'm not selective in that way. But I will be more interested in a drama when I'm already a fan of one or both of the leads.) ~Pay attention to the themes popping up in the synopsis, trailer, poster, etc. (I'm often drawn to dramas that have (or appear to have) themes that I really enjoy and/or resonate with. I love romance, of course, and I have my fav tropes in that genre I naturally gravitate toward. I like female ensemble dramas that focus on female friendships and all the complexity that comes with them. I like stories with characters that I feel an affinity with whether that's similar life circumstances, similar personality to my own, etc. That's just a few examples and not an exhaustive list, as I will watch most genre's if something piques my interest.)
There are probably some other things I do to help me decide what to watch, but I think these are the main ones.
I don't know that there is any fool-proof way of determining what dramas to watch, but I will say, choosing based solely on the poster does seem like one of the most hit or miss ways of doing it. It's like the Forest Gump quote. 'You never know which one you'll get.' Sometimes that can be a good thing. You might watch a drama you never would have otherwise. But you could also end up with a vomit flavored Bertie Bott's Every Flavor bean. Personally, I don't think I want to risk it, lol.
