Solid ep3 with a story developing well, gradual but important details provided regarding the past events, leads' relationship fun and kindof weird between master/pupil, business agreement and flirting. I like the part with Yul. The guy is not only skilled (loved his two swords technique) but he is also perceptive. I don't mind the love triangle because I don't think Yul is or will be a nasty guy. Hope they just keep the competition fair. Waiting for tomorrow and ep 4!

Title Alchemy of Souls Spoiler
Synopsis sounds like a typical chinese xuanhuan drama
The enery is the energy of nature or the universe that the mages can control and use. I have not seen so many chinese fantasy drama and maybe you are right this energy is used a lot in these but for me it is not a trademark. Elemental powers (not heavenly powers) are quite ordinary in Fantasy.

Your impressions belongs to you and I respect them. I was merely talking about constitutive elements. Happy watching to you too.

Synopsis sounds like a typical chinese xuanhuan drama
In the drama so far, they just say that the mages are able to master the energy which comes from the sky and then the lake. These people are mages who have this capability. Other humans do not have it. So in the drama, the families of mages form a caste to master and use the energy.

This concept is different from the chinese Qi where every human have it at a certain level and it can be used to channel enery for fighting, gaining powers... or being in good health or to cure people.

I agree there is a similarity because we talk about energy but they are from different nature as their origin, container and uses are different.

Synopsis sounds like a typical chinese xuanhuan drama
The concept of learning and improving under the guidance of a master is not something specific to the chinese. It exist in western culture and in fact everywhere a knowledge or skills have to be transmitted. What is specific regarding the chinese it that they include the qi in the process they call cultivation.

In this drama, there is a gate of energy to be unblock/blocked indepently of any acupoints. It is not cultivation like channeling this energy via kung fu skills or meditation to find an harmony etc.... And there is no points of accupuncture where this energy flows and I can block you or unblock you depending on where I hit. I would be super disappointed if I see this in the drama.

Title Alchemy of Souls Spoiler
Synopsis sounds like a typical chinese xuanhuan drama
The similarities that you see are not constitutive and characterizing of the genre called xuanhuan. Asian characters walking and fighting with swords do not mean it is wuxia, xianxia, xuanhuan... What define these chinese genres are chinese elements that are not in this drama.

Also in cdrama, there are shamans, sorcerers, witches maybe... but not mages as like an order, a caste. It is only two eps and it does look promising with its own universe of mages and souls of living people who can jump from a body to another. I have never seen that before in a cdrama or kdrama. I woud be disappointed if it turns into some copy of cdrama xianxia or xuanhuan.

I think there's more to mudeok's soul.. i don't think she was an ordinary blind girl
I hope you guzs are right and we will see her. Otherwise it would be quite sad.

Synopsis sounds like a typical chinese xuanhuan drama
It sounds like but it is not. At least not so far. It's a korean historical fantasy drama. It does not have kung fu, five elements (metal, wood, water, fire and earth), chinese gods, powerful animal monsters like fox or tiger, chinese mythology, progression of rank etc... Things that Duoluo continent has for example and Alchemy of Souls doesn't have. It has its own universe and more western influences than chinese influences. Mages are typically from western fantasy.

So if Naksu body is gone does that mean MD soul also went with it - as in dead?
The fact that soul shifters can take control of a dead body (one without soul) and the fact that Jang Kang would not hesitate to kill a soul shifter without considering if there is one or two soul in the body, these suggest that the soul shifter does not cohabit with another soul. That's how I see it so far but we will know more in the coming eps.

Soul has been switched. Naksu (the FL) is in Mudeok’s body and MD is in Naksu’s body.
If it is the case then he means that she is gone to the afterlife? Since Nak Soo's body has been burnt to ashes.

I’m thinking of watching this drama, but I’m confused on something, so the Fl is a spirit that has possessed…
It is unclear so far. We have seen soul switching between the King and Jang Kang and soul replacement with three soul shifters but there is no information about what happens to the soul which is "replaced". If it is still here but suppressed or if it goes to the body of the soul shifter or simply goes to the afterlife.

Where are these haters come from to get a rating this low? From the 2 episodes that aired, I was pretty impressed…
Agree it is very intriguing and interesting. I like the mage thing. Especially that ML is mage family but he would cover up a soul shifter that all the mages who are his friends' and ex fiancée's family are tracking and trying to find.

I just hope this drama has a happy ending...Nak Soo not being stuck in Mu Deok's body and turning into evil spirit…
I feel you... It is hard to admit but Nak Soo did soul shifting. That is sorcery and a crime. She can try anything but her only outcome is to be killed as soul shifter or turn into stone. There is no way she can live happily ever after in a body she stole...

Although I'm a sucker for fantasy shows, I've never managed to enjoy Korean ones. AoS is no exception, it has…
South Korean entertainment does not produce a lot of historical fantasy. I mean real ones. Not ones with sci-fi elements like time travel even through a "magical" process and not a scientific one. I really like the uniqueness and inventivity of this drama. After two eps, it is well executed with a good pace and interesting and intriguing set up of the characters. The only thing I would regret so far if that the identity of the villain is unveiled too soon. It is unusual. But ok the drama is unusual. And 20 eps means plenty of opportunities for plenty of villains.

6.9??? that drama must be so awfully bad. The poster looks so badly done, really amateurish.
6.9 is still too good for what this is. Watching this is like watching a trainwreck in the making and you think it can still be saved. Well no in the end, it is a complete catastrophy.
