I understand Gil Chae. I just hate that she cheated. She promised to be a good wife, but her feelings superseded her resolution as a wife. I guess nobody is perfect. I feel sorry for her because she was so proud and claimed she would only marry the man she loves... Just to do the wrong marriage.
Maybe the message behind this arc of story is "Don't marry out of gratefulness and duty because your marriage will end badly" or "Do not marry a woman who does not have you in her heart" or worse "Do not marry someone who has someone else in his/her heart".
The husband became bad but, in my opinion, he was not the problem. She let herself be courted, seduced and convinced by the officer to marry him. She suppressed her feelings thinking she cannot have the man she loved. She married a man she did not love. Despite her will to be a good wife, she could not hold back her feelings when fate reunited her with the man she loved.
It is a sad arc of story but ok, maybe it will make her stronger to have a new purpose and take a new direction in her life.
