The character 'Chu Zhao' is described somewhat as a nice guy in the description here. But I don't get that vibe…
In way ,but more like this : he met HY when before she enlisted ,after she fought of some ruffians , remembered her ,then recognized her in the army and kept her secret, he kinda caught some feelings but it was more of side hustle 😂 He is an entirely different mindset and actually will sacrifice anyone if the push comes to shove. And he does try to make some trouble for ML but kinda doesn't care enough untill like in the last part of the story

More like someone who grew up in a hostile environment, learned to be cunning, manipulative, is someone on the darker shade of the gray _like let's and helps some mean people do bad things , but he is also a product of his environment and at times does things on the 'lighter side of the black ,white and gray ' .

I love Zhou and Ryan and heir HYxXJ the chemistry is so good 😘I have to say though - I'm watching the drama as a completely different story cause the original plot is there but the novel obviously has so much storytelling,that it truly is a wonderful read -the characters,their actions and subtle psychology behind their actions,the big picture and small moments truly make the novel one of my favorite reads ♥️ I mean that - reading the novel for the 9th time from start to finish cause the storyline,the arcs , everything is really well written ♥️

He Rufei,while still being a bad person - and he is truly a bad one , has more than just "oh I'mma just take HY's fame " , the thought process behind his actions, all the psychology is so well written cause he had lived isolated, abandoned by his parents, basically written off as "dead" since his birth ,and he grew up knowing he was basically unwanted, discarded like a broken object, He Rufei grew up feeling repressed and hating He Yan for taking away his life -his name, his family,his rights .He even resents HY for her meritorious military service,as he never asked for such things . Just ,I feel the writers took away a lot of personality and characteristics from the secondary characters.

Especially during the wolf scenes, during that scene , Wang Ba even though still hostile towards He Yan , he defends He Yan who is stuck on the mountain, while the people she saved actually slander her and leave her to die , Wang Ba actually is the one who automatically calls BS on He Yan being a coward and immediately acts ,saving her by speaking up and fighting for her .
I was so excited watching the drama, I kept gasping and crying as if I hadn't read the novel 😁 And Oh MY GOODIES - the chemistry is chemistring and the MCs are just amazing,they did an amazing job - I believe they are He Yan and Xiao Jue - He Yan is stubborn and her confidence herself,while truly not really minding anyone's opinion about her life but her own choices and her integrity; Xiao Jue and the silent discipline and conviction in his actions,with a little bit of honesty and humbleness cause he isn't ' overbearing ' or the cookie -cutter cold and powerful ML .
And while I truly take this adaptation as a separate story from the original novel , I just can't understand why writers "dumbed down " Wang Ba the bandit,he is one of the characters who at first is a bully and then truly grows as a person, becoming one of He Yan's friend and a close comrade. And I find He Rufei to be more " vilified"
Also I love the casting for the Xiao father-son ,they look alike , and He Yan and He Rufei have similar delicate type of features with He Yan having the heroic aura ♥️♥️♥️ And He Yan's master Luo is here too 😍
