I am reading this like 9th and actually thought,I wish I could read her back story - throughout the novel there is so much I want learn - like her childhood,her running off to the army ,the first battle, loosing her comrades and meeting her teacher, her learning to adapt and learn little bits of politics, going through the ranks , actually becoming the Legendary General,the subsequent return to the inner court, slowly chipped away until molded into the used object as a daughter of the He family,her engagement and marriage to that Xu scum ,her adapting and becoming smaller, fitting into this cut out they arranged for He Yan ,her disillusionment,being blinded , being isolated, going through the motions,her desperation and depression,her hope and confidence coming back to her with a bittersweet old osmanthus cake and blind trust in stranger's kindness, her slowly and surely coming back to herself and then the final betrayed and her final thoughts

He Yan even saw Wang Ba sitting on a box in the corner. When he saw her, he seemed to want to come forward but ultimately held back, snorting, “So you’re not dead after all.”

“Thank you, little brother,” He Yan had already learned from Liang Ping that Wang Ba had gone to find Shen Han. She winked at him and said warmly, “Big brother is touched that little brother was so concerned.”

“You!” Wang Ba jumped up from the box like an angry cat, glared at her, and stormed out furiously, nearly breaking the door as he slammed it.

HY is literally jealous of XJ's beauty 🤣🤣

In way ,but more like this : he met HY when before she enlisted ,after she fought of some ruffians , remembered her ,then recognized her in the army and kept her secret, he kinda caught some feelings but it was more of side hustle 😂 He is an entirely different mindset and actually will sacrifice anyone if the push comes to shove. And he does try to make some trouble for ML but kinda doesn't care enough untill like in the last part of the story

No wonder his beauty earned him the title “Jade-faced Commander.” Thinking about it made her frustrated – they were both young generals, why did he get to be called “Jade-faced Commander” while she could only be “Masked General”? He Yan thought, that if she had removed her mask then, she might have earned a title like “Military Pan An” or something similar.


Lost in her thoughts, she alternated between admiringly staring at Xiao Jue’s face and sighing dejectedly in disappointment, looking quite like a mad woman. In Xiao Jue’s eyes, her behavior was inexplicable.

And quite foolish.

More like someone who grew up in a hostile environment, learned to be cunning, manipulative, is someone on the darker shade of the gray _like let's and helps some mean people do bad things , but he is also a product of his environment and at times does things on the 'lighter side of the black ,white and gray ' .

As Xiao Jue urged the horse to move, He Yan said, “Wait, wait!”🥺

He asked, “What now?”😐

“Look at that wolf,” He Yan pointed at the wolf’s corpse in the pit, “I worked so hard to kill it, it’s too wasteful to just leave it here.”🤑

He replied coldly, “What do you want to do?”😒

“Could we take it with us?” He Yan asked tentatively. 🥹

After a while, the young man sneered: “We can.”🤔

“Really?” He Yan turned back excitedly, “Commander, you’re truly a wonderful person!” She hadn’t expected him to agree.🙂‍↕️😊

He curved his lips, his eyes indifferent: “It comes up, you go down.”😇

He Yan: “…”😶

She said, “Forget I mentioned it.”😓

The horse took a few steps, and she turned back again, nearly bumping into Xiao Jue’s chest, “How about I go down and skin the wolf before we leave? Autumn’s coming, and the weather will be cold, wouldn’t wolf-skin boots be nice?”😃

The response she got was two merciless words.😶‍🌫️

“Be quiet.”😑

I love Zhou and Ryan and heir HYxXJ the chemistry is so good 😘I have to say though -
I'm watching the drama as a completely different story cause the original plot is there but the novel obviously has so much storytelling,that it truly is a wonderful read -the characters,their actions and subtle psychology behind their actions,the big picture and small moments truly make the novel one of my favorite reads ♥️
I mean that - reading the novel for the 9th time from start to finish cause the storyline,the arcs , everything is really well written ♥️

He hee heeeeh 🤣 I kinda jumped when HY went to XJ with a tea , immediately thought "is this THE SCENE" 😂 but then went ,oh okay can't wait for tomorrow 🤣🤣

Ooh baby , he is FINE 🫣🫣🤌🤌🤌 I'm in love with their chemistry 🥰🥰

He Rufei,while still being a bad person - and he is truly a bad one , has more than just "oh I'mma just take HY's fame " , the thought process behind his actions, all the psychology is so well written cause he had lived isolated, abandoned by his parents, basically written off as "dead" since his birth ,and he grew up knowing he was basically unwanted, discarded like a broken object, He Rufei grew up feeling repressed and hating He Yan for taking away his life -his name, his family,his rights .He even resents HY for her meritorious military service,as he never asked for such things .
Just ,I feel the writers took away a lot of personality and characteristics from the secondary characters.

Especially during the wolf scenes, during that scene , Wang Ba even though still hostile towards He Yan , he defends He Yan who is stuck on the mountain, while the people she saved actually slander her and leave her to die , Wang Ba actually is the one who automatically calls BS on He Yan being a coward and immediately acts ,saving her by speaking up and fighting for her .

I was so excited watching the drama, I kept gasping and crying as if I hadn't read the novel 😁
And Oh MY GOODIES - the chemistry is chemistring and the MCs are just amazing,they did an amazing job - I believe they are He Yan and Xiao Jue -
He Yan is stubborn and her confidence herself,while truly not really minding anyone's opinion about her life but her own choices and her integrity;
Xiao Jue and the silent discipline and conviction in his actions,with a little bit of honesty and humbleness cause he isn't ' overbearing ' or the cookie -cutter cold and powerful ML .

And while I truly take this adaptation as a separate story from the original novel , I just can't understand why writers "dumbed down " Wang Ba the bandit,he is one of the characters who at first is a bully and then truly grows as a person, becoming one of He Yan's friend and a close comrade.
And I find He Rufei to be more " vilified"

Also I love the casting for the Xiao father-son ,they look alike , and He Yan and He Rufei have similar delicate type of features with He Yan having the heroic aura ♥️♥️♥️
And He Yan's master Luo is here too 😍

That osmanthus cake was so bittersweet and Xiao Jue hang on buddy.
Also I immediately went "I hate him " om He Rufei -Kudos to the actor♥️
Also I loved the intro 😍😍
