This drama is gearing up to become the best Japanese detective drama ever! Obviously, with only 4 episodes out it's too early to tell. However, Nogi Akiko has done it again! I can't wait to watch it till the end to decide which one is my favourite: Unnatural, Dele, or MIU. It would be a battle of the titans! (Nogi Akiko admitted to feeling envy over Dele which I totally understand)
For those who found Unnatural boring: MIU is a buddy-cop detective so it has a very strong comedic element and lots of fun action. There is a lot less tragedy as well so it's not as hard to watch if you hate these things.
Episode 1&2 subbed here!! https://subscene.com/subtitles/miu404 Thank you ibsm404!
I can't believe the subs for the 1st ep were on subscene for almost a week TT Why didn't I search there?? Thank you so much for sharing and thansk to the wonderful translators!
They took everything to extreme but that's makes this dorama astonishing. Japan has highly masculine culture so…
I can't wait till season 2! I hope it airs this summer.
I completely agree that it's accurate. I did laugh though when Hanzawa said they aren't like those Showa salarymen (what with being Heisei and having it tough) because they totally aspire to be exactly like them.
Will have a second season. Only season one worth my time?
I'm triggered by gender violence so before watching any drama I need to rely on reviews and others' opinions to find out whether the drama would trigger me. Several very different sources agreed on the fact that there is such violence in this drama. So I decided to flag it here for people to see. Maybe these sources aren't reliable enough but there is still benefit for the people like me who could see this warning and decide to investigate further.
I know it's annoying to see someone dismiss a good drama without giving it a chance. And I heard lots of praise for this drama. It's just that this praise went hand in hand with notes about really worrying stuff.
Hey thanks for the link to this, its a great list! Most of these are on my PTW but of these I've seen Border (which…
Thanks)) I just adore J-drama detectives, I can talk about them forever, so I'm very happy you asked for recs!
Border is really unique cause it has both the solid plot and the dark atmosphere (the lone J-drama noir done right). For some reason, bleak J-dramas usually don't have impressive plots while plotty J-dramas are rarely bleak.
I think Ryusei no Kizuna from this list is a bit close (it's a true crime with solid plot; but it has some wackiness and family drama). Mozu (also from the list) is a bit ridiculous but it's a gripping story with great atmosphere and even some quasi-supernatural elements.
There is Spec franchise (https://kisskh.at/280-keizoku-2-spec), of course (you've probably heard about it), it's an iconic supernatural procedural (I couldn't stand the wackiness, personally).
Confession of Murder (https://kisskh.at/21294-confession-of-murder) is an old-fashioned noir thriller (again, it shouldn't be taken too seriously) but it's also as fun as sensationalistic true crime gets.
If you want something dark and shocking, you can browse WOWOW detective dramas (https://kisskh.at/search?adv=titles&nt=16&so=top). Apart from Mozu, I've personally never found them compelling enough. But they have high production values and they are nothing like usual J-dramas. Lots of people like them.
I love Hero to pieces but it's not exactly a fast-paced procedural with lots of suspense. And Bloody Monday is over-the-top live-action. So if you couldn't get hooked by them, I'd recommend just dropping them altogether. Unnatural and Dele are true masterpieces on this list while Keiji Yugami, Mozu, and Kinkyu Torishirabeshitsu are solid procedurals.
Is it a detective? Do they really solve crimes together? Or is it more like 'You Who Came from the Stars' where there is a mystery element but it's not a crime drama?
watching crime dramas people can easily know now who is the culprit because every actor/character have his place…
Hehe, it's true. One of my friends insists that the rule that a story must include only necessary character is annoying. But I think it's the golden rule. There is no place for extras in a good story.

I'm really looking forward to MIU.

I found the books to be very funny and incredibly thrilling (if problematic). And I can't wait till Tomb Notes 3 airs.

Oh, is Mr. Robot a procedural? or a thriller? Great writing is a rare treat indeed.
