Title Word of Honor Spoiler
I'm not too sure about it, but I figured that it might also be from their first encounter in ep 1-2 when Gu Xiang…
Yes you are right - he was last member of Four Seasons Manor which must have been a jianghu sect. He also founded the Window of Heaven which is a secret assassin guild that reports to Prince Jin and essentially does all his dirty work. He inducted all his fraternal brothers from Four Seasons Manor into the Window of Heaven and that is the organization that no one can withdraw from without undergoing the seven nails treatment. Because he is technically still bound to secrecy and owes his life to Prince Jin, he is very secretive about his past. I suspect it is not widely known Four Seasons Manors association with Window of Heaven and/or that Window of Heaven belongs to Prince Jin. Window of Heaven is the one that still recruits and trains assassins and reports to another dude now.

I really want to count how many times ZZS rolled his eyes in the first 5 episodes only LOL.
Love the eyerolls... I promise I was doing them in unison which is what makes it hilarious... bc the other dude was basically borderline oily but the eye roll saves the day. LOL!

Although I wouldn't go so far as to call them Gary Stu and Mary Sue, I just hate that they dumbed down both Xiao Qi and Wang Xuan to be such waffling goody two shoes. If they were ambitious and ruthless this would have been so much better. And I can't get over him not avenging the Ningshou army because I still see in Xiao Qi a lot Zhou Yu Wei's s character in Changan who was champion of the common soldier.

He is a bit wasted here because the ML is a man of such few words.

better skip it for now as of now female lead is outwitted by dumb concubines
Shiyi has definitely lost a few skirmishes but it seems to me she is decisively winning the war. And like Shiyi, I am more focused on figuring out who the mystery killer(s) are and the overall mastermind and how they all tie together. Qiao is just a red herring and a distraction while they slowly unveil the backstory. I must admit I don't love how they are doing it at such a really slow pace.

Instead of the typical romance you see in Chinese historical dramas, this one is more realistic when it comes…
His mother takes being dense to a whole new level. It doesn't compute that the more wives he has, the more he sleeps away from home. Any quasi intelligent person will conclude that he either doesn't like women or he doesn't like any of the wives his mother chooses for him. At least his first wife seems to be more clued in to his taste in women...

All these bickering and scheming are just like those harems in the palace - it's tiring. Poor Lingyi watching…
Well dying young is rather drastic - if he has good survival instincts like my dad, he just feigns deafness...

Nice teaser article!
It is definitely entertaining and big budget and I totally agree with you that the fuss over casting ZZY to play the 16 year old Awu is a storm in a teacup! It makes no sense to switch horses so to speak given that there is no big time skip in the story progression.

I hate bickering women and I want to punch that smug smile off Qian's face! But I must admit that it is quite amusing to see how piqued Lingyi is that Shiyi doesn't fawn all over him like his other women.

For sure! That baby prince has no chance of survival. During that period powerful generals seized power all the time, the most famous of which was Cao Cao of course. Xiao Qi could have been modelled on one of two generals during that period that actually seized power and founded short dynasties thereafter. It is just ridiculous that even in fiction you can't do regime change when the existing regime is so mind numbingly stupid they pretty much self implode.

She is only a rebel against her own clan. What enraged me about the ending is how Zidan was let off the hook for the murder of Zilong, the massacre of Yuzhang wang's army and collusion with an enemy state. And we never see how Wang Xuan squares this with Xiao Qi. It makes them both look bad. So regime change is a big no no but sending the message that there are different rules for the nobility and the death of common soldiers don't matter is OK?

I like this drama but, I'm kind of bothered about xu ling yi, because he already have many concubine and also…
Seems the concubines are mostly there to kowtow to his annoying mother and keep her off his back so they serve some useful purpose. But I hate this kind of petty women squabbling kind of shows so I am not sure I will last. The dubbing is really bad. And so far the ML seems to be such a boring person. And I am not sure about those long pregnant pauses that are supposed to be full of deep hidden meaning when there is actually no meaning just odd and awkward silence / half hearted ttempts at comedy.
