Hmmm... if you really like Xiao Zhan maybe watch a few to see if she improved? Its been a few years since AOL and maybe there is a better director? I recently watched Angelababy whom I normally avoid in Horizon Tower. She is still not great but she improved a lot and I enjoyed the drama nonetheless... Indeed... I thought I saw a bird flying away when Xiao Bai was lured hence the nasty pet bird became my prime suspect. But yes, Yuan Tong is possible also but she is someone who as you said doesn't waste time on small matters, she goes big when she does bad stuff. Hurting Lingxi over a pet dog may be satisfying in a petty way but it doesn't ultimately achieve anything. Whereas medicine lord's daughter is just a petty love rival... But it could have just been random - heaven is dangerous place for a mortal dog like Xiao Bai. Too many spiritual beasts lurking around every corner.
