What are you looking for? My favorite dramas are Eternal Love/Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms (fantasy romance), Nirvana in Fire (political) and Rise of Phoenixes (political). The good romances are Love and Destiny and the Legends but they both have many fillers. The plot is definitely not the best. This is a Beijing Film. Academy student homework project. The actors are supposed to convey their characters and their backstories via little more than body language with very little explanation. I find it fascinating and intriguing but if you are expecting a mainstream drama you will be very let down, They also seem to give time to all of the young actors who are students to play out common tropes including of course romance. I expect the overall story to be somewhat disappointing so your criticism is very valid. The spoiler synopsis already tells most of,the story. All of the fun (for me) is in trying to figure out the characters esp big brother and Ming Yefeng. Since we both watched it till this point I will hope the final story ends up better than my expectations but I think low probability. :)

May I ask who are the "lead" characters and who are the "side" characters in your mind? While I like Leo Wu's acting (which is superb), his character is one dimensional and not interesting in this drama. I also don't consider him to be the lead - this is about 5 main characters not one and it is definitely not a romance so it doesn't matter that much who gets the female lead. That said, it is definitely not for everyone so I am hesitant to recommend it for that reason. You are not alone in not liking it.

The inflection point for RY was when XS stepped up immediately and rescued her with no judgement at the brothel when she was framed with Sangchen. SF just stood there like the dead fish she likes to accuse XS of being. She fixed her judgy beady eyes on SF accusingly and since then XS got the girl. Of course there are still misunderstandings but IMHO the SF ship sank already. I think XS knows that too and he is being a bit petty and taking revenge now that he senses the change in power dynamics.

She has grown on me a little bit but I find it hard to empathize with her. I feel that she is willful and only sees what she wants to see. Most of her suffering is her own doing so I don't feel sorry for her I just think she is a big girl, she can roll with the punches and live with her own mistakes.

You mean Jiang Tan, the girl that Zuo Yanxi seems to like? I thought about that but that would mean she knows about the plan to switch the two girls. Which is possible given who she works for but it was Jing Ci's secret plan so how did she know? Also, that would be messy writing, the perpetrator had not been introduced at that point and is hence not on the scene, which is unfair to the viewer. This is part of the major conspiracy not just an unimportant side case. Many dramas have pulled this kind of stunt of pinning the crime on a random and improbable character before so am not ruling it out but I hope it is not the case. It would be sloppy and unsatisfactory plot design. I would buy it more if it ends up being Jing Ci's aunt or his cousin - at least they have motive, means and opportunity.
