I feel the same way but I just put in on hold for now - I got up to 26 but just couldn't make it past the mind numbing handkerchief monologue. The story is suppose to get very good from here but I am done with watching fillers. I will wait for good detailed recaps out so that I know what parts to watch and can fast forward through the rest without getting lost in terms of story-line.

I need spoilers. Is this a tragic ending? Is the 2nd son heartbroken? Does the adoptive daughter fall for the…
She will not have a romantic relationship with Ming Yefeng but whether she ends up with Hongshou is still unknown. 25 and 26 are out and that should be it for this week.

I started this based on your review and am loving it! It actually makes me want to read a good translation of…
Thanks for your feedback - many people hated the plot changes but I loved it. I am so happy to hear someone else agrees. As for the book, I never read an English version but with these classics, it takes so long to translate that there is usually only one authoritative full translation but possibly a few abridged versions.
There are a few more dramas that focus on different characters or parts of the story. Zhao Ge is supposed to be coming this year and it focuses much more on Ji Fa's story.

The ending has many mystical aspects so it is not very clear to me as well - some of this is just what I think…
Hi - surprisingly the full 65 episode version got released. It better fills out the story although the 56 version got most of the important parts. Just FYI in case you did want to re-watch the last 10.

So I just caught up at episode 22, and my view is that it's alright. The cinematography is great in general but…
Ming Yefeng is the one that is surprising me also - why do I not know this actor, he is very good. I love grey characters.

I have to say what Hongxuan's wife did in 22 was so completely and utterly bird brained I am super irritated and disgusted. This incompetent feather head that I kind of liked so far went and did the typical I can't fight and I am pretty much helpless but I am gonna wade into a dangerous situation to go try to rescue my man thing. I really hope this is not a precursor to the story writing taking a wrong turn from here on out...

Review Royal Nirvana Spoiler
How is it even possible that your review was much better than the drama itself?I agree that the Emperor was great,…
Thank you for your kind words.

The author was very angry at the actor for portraying the emperor so sympathetically but I thought that was one of the brilliant aspects of the show - you start out sympathetic to the crown prince and angry at the emperor. As time goes by you realize some of his father's criticisms of him are spot on. He is all heart but no brain and ultimately does not have the stomach to do what must be done and hence is not fit to inherit the throne. If you watched Rise of the Phoenixes it is a similar power struggle backstory but the prince is completely different - strong and ruthless enough to do what it takes to win and rule.

In the book actually he never meets Wenxi and even until the end only knew her as Gu Abao, a very suspicious palace maid. The more romantic changes to the backstory only made the CP look worse later on.

The after credits are just clips from the last arc (12 episodes) that didn't air. We already see the Gus made a lot of sacrifices to keep the CP in power. When Gu Xilin abandoned his post and came to the city without orders after the concubine was made empress, he could have been executed for revolting just to save CP who was close to being deposed. He also came to beg CP to seize power but was rebuffed and instead was asked to go back and defend the border. Gu Fengan probably already partly blamed CP for his father's death but carried on his father's wishes to support CP. In the final arc he tried to force CP to revolt but of course CP declined again. Their relationship suffered as a result of CP letting down his family time and again. The book was a tragedy - pretty much everyone dies although the director said he changed the ending to make it "more acceptable to viewers." It is a story about a tragic and weak prince who tries to do the right thing but by not choosing sides, ultimately betrays everyone.

Well she has toned it down A LOT from Novoland Eagle Flag. And her chemistry with Leo Wu is actually very good, I am enjoying watching them. If you haven't gotten there yet, maybe consider continuing a few more. You can see it around 8 or 9.

Well we know they got together and they are expecting a child. She is obviously waiting for him to return from somewhere and fulfill his promise to her to go see the world together. Whether that happens or not who knows? To be honest, it sets up for an ending that MAY have followed the book's tragic ending but they never shot enough of it or released enough of it that you can come to that conclusion with what was actually aired. Take it as a happy ending and then move on with a happier show. :)

Likely because a rickety old dude who can't run as fast as the young and sprightly ones is just easier to catch! LOL!

I think it is better that dramas should end at the peak. Otherwise you have many episodes of anticlimax.
