I was expecting more to happen between SR and FJ in the mortal realm. It wasn't deep enough to call it true love.…
The mortal realm in broad outline is pretty much the same as TMOPB; DJ's mortal trial is a unrequited love trial with a love rival that is someone close to him (betrayal). I agree it wasn't well executed although Vengo's acting did improve. It is also IMHO pretty much ridiculous that he doesn't sleep with her. She is his concubine for heaven's sake! Ye Hua would have jumped her long ago. It just makes DJ seem like he has no fire in his belly. At least in TMOPB they got that part right!

Having said that, it is kind of unavoidable that this first arc (which took way too long with too much filler) seems repetitive. What made it worse was they put very little effort into making it fresh or more interesting. I will keep watching until we get into the next arc which should be fresh and original. This will be the true test of whether this production can stand on its own. For those who have seen TMOPB it is not a bad idea to catch just the last few episodes of the mortal arch (starting anywhere from 18-20) and get right into the heart of the Pillow Book story. It may be a much better viewing experience. I originally planned to do that but kind of house bound bc of coronavirus so I watched from the beginning.

Considering putting this on hold for awhile to accumulate a bunch of episodes before continuing. Apparently this is going down the VVIP path from next week. I don't mind paying for good content but I think if I end up paying for mediocre episodes I will just get mad.

If su Ying is so bad why does Xiao yu er end up with her
Wuxia trope - the badass, slightly wicked gal aways gets the guy.

For those of you that don't know, instead of adding someone as your friend, you can actually block them. That will filter out all the comments/opinions that you don't like so that you don't have to read them. Unfortunately, until you own the site, that is the most effective way to control opinions you don't like because people are free to express what they think no matter what. Do check it out.

After you have seen Episode 32, you would understand that his IQ is not exactly in the single digits range.
Ah... I see what you mean now. :)

I have to say, this is my favorite remake version so far. My all time favorite was the Tony Leung version, however…
I quite like both leads. I would observe that while Chen Zhe Yuan is doing a good job, sometimes he is so high energy I get tired watching him. And while he is a very promising and versatile young actor, I think he hasn't really found his own personal style. I think he is acting this role pretty much exactly the way Tony Leung would have portrayed it (maybe that is why you like it so much). He hasn't matured enough yet to have his own interpretation.

Ok I will be patient - I am just anxious because the good guys seem to keep losing because of stupid mistakes and misunderstandings...

I hear you on good acting vs idols. There are actually some good young new actors but the older ones are still the best.

I am at ep 28 where Jiang Biehe tricks him into no revenge - is that an imposter? Even in the beginning, he is supposed to help Jiang Feng elope and he kind of lingers and gets into a meaningless fight and then gets trapped by a bunch of petty villains... It is like he charges without thinking and after all his suffering you would have thought he learned something from it? And he doesn't put two and two together when he meet Hua WuQue despite the uncanny resemblance?

I have to say this Yan NanTian may be an awesome fighter but he is not so blessed in the brains department. The guy gets suckered all the time and by the same guy with just terrible consequences! I know he is a good guy but what a dolt!!!

Investiture of the Gods finally and very quietly released the last 10-12 episodes that were never aired on Amazon Prime. That suggests there is some hope that the remaining cut episodes from Royal Nirvana will eventually be released as well. I still don't know if I will want to watch them but I suppose if it is in 6 months or so that is long enough of a mental health break.

Oh of course ROP was just one of the best in terms of production value. With actor pay caps going forward hopefully this won't happen again, although I have heard they have found ways around it. The other solution is just more people have to pay and pay more to watch drama. All three streaming platforms lost over $1bn USD each last year on dramas! That can't last.

I'm enjoying this so far! Never got bored during any episode. Though am I the only one who gets Lan Zhan and Wei…
I believe the two ML's opposite personalities is very consistent with Gu Long's original characterization of the brothers. If anything, it is more likely the the Lan Zhan and Wei Ying characters could have been influenced by Gu Long's work which was written maybe 50 years ago. This obviously predates the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation which was only written fairly recently. That said, this drama may well have styled these two characters like Lan Zhan and Wei Ying were styled given the success of the Untamed. I did notice that too but their characters were written well before Lan Zhan and Wei Ying's author was even born.
