Yups this was written by someone new and it shows. I dropped under the skin 2. Tbh I didn’t think UTS1 was all that good either so I didn’t have high expectations of S2.

This season brought a new screenwriter who has mucked up all the characterizations and is adding unnecessary angst/drama…
S1 was immersed in a series of mysteries that connected to a bigger one and they unraveled like ancient CSI. The political angle only kicked in at the end and the villain was well hidden. This one is much more like an ancient spy vs spy story where the villain is a known enemy kingdom with a not super interesting hidden spy. The romantic angst isn’t needed and it disturbs not just the pacing but also the logic of some of the main characters. And the silly emperor of great Tang seems unable to protect his own team from the consequences of investigating the malign intent of a weaker enemy kingdom in his own capital? I am flabbergasted.

I just don’t trust You Chen An. On the surface he’s all polite smiles and good manners, but underneath all…
This season brought a new screenwriter who has mucked up all the characterizations and is adding unnecessary angst/drama to the relationships instead of focusing on the case. Probably bc the case isn't that interesting or original - find the hidden spy... hmmm... where have we seen that before?

I can't help feeling the Zhao clan is at the heart of this season's conspiracy:1. The first case arises under…
Their plan is to destabilize the Tang court. The Zhaos are a noble family related to the emperor's favorite consort so they may or may not be targets as well.

Ep 12: 🦚sure has a smooth/wrinkle free, young looking neck, under that mask... just sayin'...
Maybe its Jin Bao. Bc they will assume we would never dream its another eunuch. And Peacock is an apt nickname for a eunuch.

Chu He can be Peacock. He has no business in the capital, but he stays there do nothing specifically. He can freely…
Yes the mastermind is the Nanzhou king. One episode sucks.

Chuhe's actions have been sus to say the least and he definitely cannot be ruled out but if he was turned it must be bc he is under duress. From the few scenes I saw though, my impression is that Peacock is a Nanzhao patriot.

Based on ep 13 I am starting to think they are being targeted as well.😅

Peacock is a rather flamboyant codename and could just as well be a woman.
In Blossom, Fated Hearts, Wanted Detective, Luoyang... omg this character just hopped from drama to drama!!!

Not much Western media made it into China before 1990s but we can guess that Star Wars was one of them bc it seems to have inspired an entire generation of screenwriters and directors.😅😂😂

Yeah I just can’t figure out if they are targets of the conspiracy bc they have military power or one of them is a perpetrator/traitor/spy.

The face of the FL is different in the second season. I don't know if it's because of better make-up, the fact…
They got rid of her bangs from S1. They all get work done here and there, even the dudes. So definitely possible.

It’s possible - they did that with one of the dramas where the villain also went around in the Darth Vader getup. I just don’t remember which one there were so many….

lol - I have since abandoned this idea after I heard his deep voice. Peacock is definitely a man and one with a very authoritative voice.

What the Zhao???
I can't help feeling the Zhao clan is at the heart of this season's conspiracy:
1. The first case arises under the purview of Consort Hui (of Zhao clan). Her nervousness seems beyond just covering up her the palace maid's transgressions. Did Wu Liang also have something on her? Was she blackmailed by him or bribing him with the emperor's paintings and scrolls?

2. The monk was killed at the Zhao manor and was there at the invitation of Vice Minister Zhao.

3. Zhao Senyao threatened the monk and was threatening Qinxiang.

4. Zhao Fengming is Wan Qianshan's buddy and was on the scene of his death. His super deep voice and bearing has an uncanny resemblance to that of the Peacock.

I haven't put it all together but I feel either I am being gaslighted like literally 赵高了or the Zhao clan is up to their eyeballs in whatever conspiracy is going down here.

Their relationship went frozen for 3years…lol! I really don’t like the CP tropes so far.And 💯 agreed with…
That was a really good scene and I don't think their story is over yet. There is still the open question of who the young monk's father is. I think Qinxiang's reaction to Xie Huaiding's picture was interesting.

As for Nanzhao, war broke out between them and Tang into the end of Xuanzong/宣宗 's reign. So if the second prince ascends the throne, he will go to war with Tang.

Xiao Jin Yu and Chu Chu lost one or both parents. They have never witnessed a good relationship between husband…
Fair enough but those kind of couple dynamics are quite common and just not interesting enough to rise to be as big a deal as the plot is making them out to be.
