it is a fake map - it contains misleading information about the various passes into Chang'an. The Tiemo army is going to be ambushed in one of them. I also don't think what Tiemo King picked up at Yang Chuhao's library is the real thing. The real one has been missing for years and Cen Weizong the writer produced a fake one that was planted in Yang's library.

Yes he is a cowardly character but he also cares for the people - as Han Ziling observed as well. So I understand why he decided to go along with the plan. But he also showed himself to be quite smart at thinking on his feet in a crisis when Chancellor Gao was about to murder the 4 military commanders. I guess he just seemed dumbed down so much to go along with the stabbing when Wuyang was there and Wuyang can fight. And so can he though maybe only with an axe.

I think the Tiemo King is lying. YFS was captured in the granary 25 years ago. Whereas in ep 1, Huai'an says his mother died in the North when he was 10. The timelines don't match. If it were true she went on a mission while she was still breastfeeding Huai'an AND is not Bai Wan's mother. It could be a bunch of half truths and his mother did indeed die on a mission to Tiemo. But I suspect the hanging woman was more likely Fang Genghui's wife - the man who accompanied the Tiemo envoy to Chang'an (and yes that would make him a Huben spy). I think Huai'an only clenched his fists bc the Tiemo King was insulting and blaming his mother for everything that happened- she got caught as a spy, was tricked out of crucial intelligence, her death caused the death of 100 Huben soldiers, which caused the rift between YFS and his father that got his family killed.

The plot is tighter but its dialogue heavy and political heavy. You have to pay attention. And there is little explanation - they trust the reader to figure out what is going on.
