Maybe he is dying of a broken heart - there should be no cure for that. He seems to have genuinely loved FSG's mom. And he has gone to extreme lengths with his kids and lashed out unfairly at Marquis Changle as a result of fearing for their only son.

Yeah I am hoping there is still more to it, that despite his weak motive he does have a plan and a real end game. Which would be to seize power for himself. After all, the emperor couldn't have started or defended the country without the Murong clan.

Yeah I agree I am disappointed with his motive. But I think his collaborators should be more worried he doesn't finish them off rather than the other way around. I am quite sure he is not really on the same side as the Zhuangs, he is just playing them against each other. As mentioned by PM Zhuang and his father, FSG's father is the founding emperor and the Zhuangs and Murongs put him there. So I think MY feels he and his family are equally entitled to rule.
