Shanjian kept saying he’s lost the game. I felt like he didn’t though. He was making all the wrong moves… By the time he realized how madly in love he is with Shaoshang, her ship had sailed.
I like Shanjian swag and all. And probably if the love at first sight went stronger for him, he’ll kept his advances nicely. Just as sweet and persistence as A Yao. Or maybe bold and passionate like Zisheng.
I feel Shanjian romantic side, is heartbreaking and yet beautiful. When he is in love with Shaoshang that is why it lasted a lifetime for him. Just like described in those epilogues. If anyone had read them.
Ep 49 start as always kicking my heart. Doesn’t matter how many time I’ve watched it. When Zisheng spoke with so much agony in cracking voice to Shaoshang, that she shouldn’t be there. Yeap, that right there the world just crumbles.
It makes me remembered how Edward left Bella in New Moon. Or Jace choose to leave Clary in City of Glass. It is the same frequency, but Wu Lei as Zisheng threw that line with deeper anguished. He is a great actor, I believe that.
Zisheng and Shaoshang staring at each other lovingly in 45:49 episode 41, is my no.1 ZiShang moments favorites. Here they do look like a starcrossed lover. Compare that to how they looked at each other at the city gate five years later. Heartbreaking evenmore.
That scene by the Palace alley where ShaoShang and Third Prince bickered, is very interesting. Hence her pale face, ShaoShang lay out her fervently clever perspectives. There she stands as one betrayed, brokenhearted, and resentful person. And yet, she is willing to wholeheartedly gave everything she has left to help Zisheng. Stands for herself and lectured Third Prince some serious quality of being human.
Ep 54 08:45 when LBY & CSS finally looked into each other’s soul, held-back their tears from shedding, pressing their coverts smiles. Suppressing their affection. That moment both of them realized for the first time, they are still so much in love. The color of their smiles phased to yearning. As both quickly turned their way to opposite direction. Then at the gate, LBY stops himself. His palm pressing hard the gates appliqués. Soundlessly crying in his misery. And Shaoshang also stops herself and regrets.
From their many intense conflicts this one stabbed deeper. He was struggling to be okay with her decision. She was still untangling her threads of resentments. Serene melancholy.

Let’s just rewatched to ep 1 again and be amazed a g a i n…
Just when you think, you’ve seen them all. Here come dashing General Zisheng.
Don’t you just love that they have so many names and all is so cool.
I am naming my ragdoll cat ShanJian, just so I can call that name.😁
Felt like wanna pull Zisheng’s hair, at the same time hugged him tighter.
That scene and the bgm really crunching hearts.
