Sweet and heartwarming, but you are left wondering how much of this was real. Did the community have a say before they came in the village with whichever proposal? What did they do with the money they raised? How sustainable will the venue be as a community space - and who will ensure its continuity? How many times per hour does Park Bo Gum adjust his hair?
It got to a point that I actively avoid any dramas with Esther Yu, because it seems it is like watching the exact same character again and again. The voice, the infantile thing - exhausting.
There was a lot of cultural stuff in there that I just couldn’t get my head around. I don’t think the ML ever uttered an “I love you”, for instance, and the whole “women must quietly wait for their men whilst they are saving the country” thing was just surreal. I did wonder whether this was some sort of propaganda to convince women to marry servicemen. It really dragged on and on, and I ended up speed watching all the scenes of guys in uniform doing their nationalistic thing, because ain’t nobody got time for that. Then there was the exhausting trope of people intruding on other’s privacy, not reading the room, etc etc. I so wish they would just stop with that nonsense, really. Oh, and the kid being passed around - that was truly weird. They do say it takes a village to raise a child but that was way over the top. So, yes, the deep affection since they were young, the beautiful landscape, and the handsome ML kept me going until the end, but with *a lot* of effort.
