Title Nirvana in Fire Spoiler
I love the chess game that this show portrays. The emperor falling down the stairs in the end when he was beaten was a beautiful scene.

I did not expect a baby Leo Wu to suddenly appear, how cute is that? 😂❤️ (I didn't look up the cover or…
I thought his character was cute at the beginning, then dragged a bit, and then picked up again when Liu Chen came on the scene. LW is in one episode as a little kid in The Imperial Doctress. If you want to see him even younger.

I dropped S1 for all the reasons stated above😶🫣.. But I like WuLei and read somewhere dat S2 is much better…
That's funny. I thought season 1 was better because of all the clever foreshadowing.

Good then the story is doing its job. Please don't judge the mother by what you see. In the end, you will see…
I'm not saying you have to like the mother. However, she is a very real character. I had parents just like her, yet I never felt like I was not loved. In fact I think that is what the whole point of this show is. What is love? Disciplining your children is showing them love. What is equality and equity? The desk scene is a good one for this. Who has power? So many things can be discussed at the family and political level. Which is why the second season mirrors the first season. That's why I say there is more to this story then what first appears.

LBY supported her because he wanted something from her, the map of Shu. He is the one who gives her the idea. Remember General Wan's mother beats GW because he didn't give LBY the map. The family could have been implicated in colluding with the enemy. GW's mother realizes that. Discipline at any age.

Not all of the girls were doing that. In fact I think many of them went along with the two noble girls because they didn't want the two noble girls doing it to them (who holds all the power). In addition, who wouldn't want to go look at a bunch of handsome guys when that is all you have do in life and the only decision you get to make is the boy you will love.

I did watch it all the way through. I am like you, though, modern dramas don't hold my interest as much. I just like Zhao Lu Si and know that she will always play a character who goes against societal norms. Wanted to see what it was in that drama.

The mom fades out of the picture because her job is done. She has raised her daughter as best she can in the short amount of time that she has before SS becomes engaged to LY. Image what LY's family would have done to SS if she would have pulled the kind of things she did in the Luo household. LY and SS wanted to go away and build houses that would have never happened. SS's wouldn't have survived in the palace if her mother hadn't disciplined her before hand. The empress has never disciplined her children and look how they turned out.

You have made some really good points. The character of the mother makes perfect sense in that society. Remember the mother was a general, the leader of an army. She had merits of her own. On the battlefield she was boss. When she came home, Aunt Ge ran the household. Mom slowly but surely become the boss of the house. The mother is not the character out of place. Yang Yang is the character out of place. I have always wondered why Yang Yang was raised by her aunt and not her mother and father at the Cheng residence. Her return to the Cheng's residence after 15 years is very uncharacteristic. It tells me that even Aunt Ge's family did not trust Aunt Ge to raise a child. She couldn't even adopt her nephew. Aunt Ge had to trick the grandmother in order to even have a child to raise. Aunt Ge's words are very revealing when she talks about SS when SS helps her maintain the main section of the house. When SS does not turn out how Aunt Ge wants, Aunt Ge starts with the abuse.
SS's mother is the opposite of Aunt Ge. She is very authoritarian in her discipline. She only "spanks" her daughter twice. Once on the hands when SS's is caught eavesdropping (notice she is never caught eavesdropping again). Without punishment her exploits keep getting bigger and bigger. She fights with two noble girls and she hits herself to make it look like they did it. Finally, she collapses a bridge with all the noble girls on it. Remember only Wang Ling and girl Luo pick on her endlessly. Innocent girls could have been hurt in that bridge collapse and it was done on someone else's property. Even the father realizes that by this point she needs discipline. SS even knows she must accept responsibility for her own actions. Also, time is not something that they have. SS meets her three beaus in episode 6 and she is of marriageable age. Mom even says she cannot pass this off to the husband's family because she doesn't know how the husband's family will discipline her.

Which ep does that ML ask the FL to be his fiancé?
He never really asks her to be his fiancee. He asks the emperor in ep. 24 for her hand in marriage.

The mother character is just a who....e. She's a bit.......h who takes it out on her daughter for her own mistakes.…
Good then the story is doing its job. Please don't judge the mother by what you see. In the end, you will see why she does everything that she does. Is she a perfect mother, no, but are there reasons for her actions, yes. If you want to see the mother as a" hands off" mother, watch her in Hidden Love with Zhao Lu Si. I love the contrast and wonder if the producers of Hidden Love did it on purpose.

no romance? happy end?
I have only watched 15 episodes and there is not much romance going on yet. Don't know about the happy ending (the main character is very ill). Just finished watching it. No happy ending and not much romance.

Title Nirvana in Fire Spoiler
Dear MDL netizens, I have a question for you, if you may: I did watch MLC, Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty, Ancient…
This is definitely a political show. It is not a crime show in the sense of what you are referring to. The main focus is about three princes fighting over the crown prince position and a guy who advises them all in order to get revenge for the injustice done to his family. If you want a show that has multiple crimes try Miss Truth.

Wow, did you and I watch the same drama? When does the FL ever make the ML jealous? When does the FL ever want…
Thank you, I now understand what you mean. However, I do have to argue that all Asian dramas have, by your definition, a love triangle, square, or harem. It is what drives the plot forward and creates the drama. The only dramas that I have seen that have true love triangles are The Imperial Doctress and Jewel in the Crown.

Thank you for debating with me. I hope you enjoy the rest of Love Like a Galaxy. It really is a masterpiece in how it is filmed, written, and acted.

Are you saying males can't enjoy this show? Therefore, I must be a girl. There are more things in this show that would lean towards a male liking it more than a female. The whole series is about politics and the superiority of men and the control they had/have over women's and lower status men's lives. The fight scenes are very realistic. The series is challenging all of these ideas. The fact that you are angry or have to ask whether commenters are male or female means the story is doing its job. Thank you for proving my point.

Deepakk, this show is made for all audiences. In fact, I think this show was made mostly for a male audience, even though the main character is female. The producers wanted to address numerous issues about love, discipline, power, and autonomy of both men and women. Also, you are right, it would not be the same story if the main character, SS, had been a boy. The closest you come to the male foil for SS is LY. His family had been abused by the first family since his father died.

What is the difference between a harem and a triangle then? I am confused. Based on your argument every Asian drama would be considered a harem with love triangles. I can not think of one Asian drama that only has one love interest (each other). There is always one or two other people interested in the male and female leads. Also, there is no tag line on MDL that says this is a reverse harem show. I am just trying to understand your logic and definitions because it doesn't seem like there is a difference.

Title Hidden Love Spoiler
I have read the novel and there was no indication that the ML was flirting with FL while she was still in middle…
I understand what you are saying, and it is funny how people respond to young people liking someone. If the setting had been a costume drama, people would have spurred the couple on as the characters are about the same age. In fact, in Love Like a Galaxy she plays a 15-year-old girl and the love interest is 21. Yet people do not feel this as wrong. It is only now that we have created the idea of childhood that a 19-year-old liking a 14-year-old is wrong. We have decided he is either a pervert or can only like her as a brother in order for this to be okay. We cannot see other possibilities.

If you dislike complicated love plots don't watch this drama. This is not your normal drama. The female lead becomes…
You're right he meets her fully at the lantern festival. However, he is only curious about her. That is what I love about this drama. They are challenging the notion of love at first sight. Does he really love her? What kind of love is it? As the story progresses you realize that he does not really love her in the same way that he wants her to love him. Does he like her, yes! Does he love her, no! The writers have taken all the tropes of the genre and challenged them, yet have kept them for the audience. I think of the concept presented in Romeo and Juliet. Do they really love each other? Does dying for each other mean you love them? What is love? How do you define it? Love is a very abstract term and defined by the individual.

The audience has been trained that when the couple twirl or the boy saves the girl that they have automatically fallen in love. SS does not love him at first sight. LBY likes her at first, but does he really love her at first sight? Happy watching. There is more to this story than what you first see.

I am sure that she took the pill that Jung Ji Woon made for her that helped to calm her when she was nervous.…
It is hard to say when they get together as they meet as children. He goes away for 10 years and she becomes the crown prince all in the first two episodes. No annoying love triangles. Very happy ending! They break up twice for different reasons and get back together. This is a very good drama. Happy watching.

Well, I am glad you are liking the show despite all that. I do understand the tropes (reverse harem and triangles). All are represented in this show. This is where we disagree. They are taking those tropes and challenging them. My question to you is this. Based on your definition does the emperor have a harem?
