A wonderful example of OLD BUT GOLD drama!! It's been so many years since I last watched it, but I did a rewatched this year and fell in love with this gem all over again!! Story pacing, OST music, acting, and chemistry between the main leads were fantastic!!
Jun Matsumoto absolutely slays as the best Domyjoji ML from all the boys over flower adaptions. I loved how he portrayed such a strong, intimidated bad boy aura with a perfect blend of dorky comedic timing as the ML! For me, this drama still stands as the best Boys over Flower adaption!!
Yukiko should have been honest about why she wanted to break up with Morio. It just seemed very unfair for Morio to be pushed away by Yukiko by not even getting an explanation for the breakup and clearing up the misunderstanding Morio had with Yukiko's relationship with Hiyama :/
If the writers are gonna play the generic trope when couples break up time skip, then they should have done it properly. It just made Yukiko look very immature in the relationship, which is a shame cause I really liked her character growth for the first 8 episodes.
Oh, I loved reading the webtoon! But I remember the ML in the webtoon also came off a cold in the beginning of the story, which is similar to many roles Cha Eun Woo has played. His acting has the potential to grow; I liked seeing him in the dramas such as "Hit the top" and "Rookie historian," where he isn't playing the same cold silent-type character. I wish he could get more diverse roles that will challenge his acting skills :/ But he still has another upcoming drama, "Island," coming up, so hopefully, we'll see a change in his acting there!
finally someone that sees it the same way as I do! For being a romance story, it really lacked more sweet moments…
For real, it's just such a shame since the drama did have the potential to stick to the original storyline rather than making a mess out of a classic rom com. :( Thank you for your comment!
Love your review! The things you mentioned were also my thoughts. I just finished it and I was glad I was through…
EXACTLY, it's like this drama had ZERO consistency with how the emotions were displayed in every scene!! Omg yeah, I agree on how stupid the ending was when he tied his shoe!!
Looking back, it felt like a whole marketing scheme for the thai version to say they will make a "Boys over flower" adaption when it doesn't even come close to giving justice to the original story that we all know ofc! Also, thank you for your comment!! It's great to see we have a similar feeling towards this so-called BOF remake, lol.
The only reason Gorya even fell for Ren was because he was her savior. He was prince charming in her imagination.…
Yup, the Thai version didn't show a strong development to explore the transition of the enemies to lovers trope for Thyme and Gorya's relationship. In the origanl story, the enemies to lovers trope was very strong.
The original story, Gorya's character hated Thyme for very long time. There were many storyarcs in the beginning that she had to go through to understand Thyme and see how she really stands in her relationship with Ren's characters as well. We get to slowly see how she gets over Ren and transitions to falling for Thyme. But F4 Thailand didn't really show us much of that development which is why it doesn't make sense or feels to fast how Gorya fell for Thyme.
Right?? Why is that some Gmmtv series are so inconsistent with their writng. Not all of them of course, but it…
Exactly. The original story is written to give lots of growth and character development for the challenges that the main leads face. But unfortunately Gmmtv seemed to have rushed many storyarcs and failed to capture those moments that make boys over flower franchise special.
I completely agree on some of your points. Gorya's lack of character development. The lack of romance. The "different…
For real! And then Gorya had to lie to Thyme about being a gold digger just made the rain breakup scene even more dramatic then it was already written in the first place.
At least in the origanl scene, Gorya actually told Thyme the truth that she's breaking up with him cause his mom was was causing a mess to her love ones.

Yeah what I don't understand is why the Thai version couldn't follow the original reasoning to Thyme and Gorya's rain break up scene. It makes sense and good enough reason in the origanl storyline that Gorya had to break up with Thyme because his mom was messing up her family and friends life, so Gorya had to let go of Thyme. Why bring in the fake illness and business drama as a reason to break up, only to have Thyme go back to his old self as good thing for his family's business?
Also, FYI Hana Yori Dango (the japanese version) is going to be on VIki in 2 days.
Ah I got you, yeah hard copies are definitely more nice to read than from phone. Haha yeah it's so sad how the mangas stopped printing long ago, I started collecting the HYD series a couple years ago and so far have half of the volumes and I don't think the prices are dropping anytime soon to collect more lol😅

Wow I had a similar experience too but I found the Korean version first on Netflix and discovered HYD by going down the rabbit hole right after haha! I also felt pretty hesitant to try HYD but I'm so glad I did too, still the best adaptation of the story for me! I personally prefer the manga over the anime, there is alot of character development between the lead's relationship than compared to the anime.

Wow really! It's old but gold <3 HYD is my #1 in the boys over franchise too! For me it was the 2nd adaptation I watched then Taiwanese, and Chinese after. The Korean version was the first one I watched.

The drama was a fun watch but the conclusion could have been better for sure.
