I wasnât going to do this but since Liu Ran is getting so much unfair hate (on here and other platforms) I thought…
I never hated Liuran. I just think it's poor writing and I kind of feel sorry for Song Yi. I am more annoyed with the writing of her character and the romance than the character and definitely I'm not blaming the actress.
This is partly because I had expected a good slow burn romance in this arranged marriage trope. It didn't materialize. The moment Baili started to thaw, they made Liu Ran into this clingy, brainless girl, totally different from the mettle and intelligence shown in earlier episodes. The short sweet scene in the latest episode showed what it could have been. The actors delivered but the writing didn't.
Anyway, she's nowhere near the worst written characters in cdramas. There's a lot of poorly written characters. Maybe she just stood out more in a quality production like this one.
Saw the preview for episode 39 and it's horrifying
Thank you! I have 'resisted' joining MDL until now. I'll probably participate whenever there's a drama worth discussing. I don't catch details well so I rely on good folks for help đ

Preview 39 is so short and looks like the final scene of the drama. People are celebrating in the streets so this can't be just after Baili had a drink with GBZ. I wonder though why would they post such a spoiler but then does anyone expect GBZ or Baili to die?
This drama takes place during Wu Zhao dynasty (690-705) when Wu Tzetian reigned as emperor in her own right and…
Chinese history is very interesting but there aren't many historical dramas or movies made that are set in earlier centuries. So we can only settle for stories set in these dynasties.
I can't find any write up on this drama. Guo Jing Fei is an interesting actor so I like to check out his works. Subs are awful though, I had to turn them off
By the time the drama ends and probably late Jan, the drama will stabilize at 8.4 - 8.6. Theres no way this one…
Perhaps I have a deep mistrust of any kind of ratings and rankings so I paint them all with the same brush.
Talking about SSS, I am on the fence. I really liked JoL but this doesn't seem to have the same quality. I might still try after Luoyang, I can't do two period dramas simultaneously.

I am not that confident. MDL ratings are more skewed and less reliable when you have popular star(s) in the cast. In Luoyang, it's Wang Yibo and Song Qian. Both have sizeable fandoms which will pull up the ratings but they also attract people and fandoms which will pull down the score. In the end, it might just be a tug of war between the two extremes.
Out of curiosity, I checked out a drama which I was deciding if I should watch next. The comments in there were talking about sub accounts, new accounts, malicious downvoting and guess what? Luoyang was mentioned.
To determine if I should watch a drama, I sieve out those which are obviously not objective, be it positive or negative.

So it's not necessarily a female
So Prince Zhao is Li Dan? He's the father of Prince Dong Chuan?
How about Crown Princess? They didn't show her in the drama, right?
