At one point I felt sorry for Seo-Yoon and rooted for her because she's surrounded by a colony of pythons. Those within her own family and the snarling sexism she faces as a woman in position. But her unrelenting desire to carry on her father's legacy doesn't seem as important (or realistic from a business pov) as Tæ-joo's desire to chair Sung Jin Group as a guy who comes from nothing. His ambition is more relatable to me than playing puppet to a dead man who himself was a greedy bastard who did anything for 'dun' (money). At least for now Tæ-joo still has a conscience, he has the capacity to be fair & just, unlike Min-jæ who would prostitute his own mother for money, status and power.
I hope he gets to chair the Group, but whether he does or not, I'm rooting for him. I hope the story ends positively for him. I hope he ends up with Seul Hee, but this isn't Hollywood so I know I'm pushing it where that's concerned. In fact, I have a sick feeling those sadistic bastard writers might kill him off ...
(don't tell me if I'm right. Or wrong.)

I'm about to start ep 18 and I remember you telling me one time that I'm going to hate Tæ-joo.
There was a point in the drama when I was a bit appalled by certain of his actions and like Min-jæ I was pretty sure he was a psychopathic. But I realise, no, in general I see eye to eye with Tæ-joo. I can only hope to tackle my own life with the same amount of shrewdness, determination and pure guts he does. Do I agree with his illegal activities, no, but making money is dirty business. Everyone gets their hands dirty at some point. All those big corporate CEOs and executives, politicians, they're all criminals. Tæ-joo can either play by the rules or go home.
I grew up in a lower middle class family. We mostly had everything we needed, but not necessarily everything we wanted all the time. While our family was far from 'poor' (we had far more than Tæ-joo and his family), I can understand his desire to run as far away from poverty as possible. And his desire to succeed in life where others are incapable of taking charge of their own destiny. In business he may not have a whole bunch of scruples, but he's loyal & conscionable to those he don't screw him over. I don't judge him for anything he's done so far in the drama, not even the murder of Congressman Kim because I saw that as self-defence. That effer had it coming.
That movie looks fucked up.. Let me watch it!!!! :'D
It's like you took the words right outta my mouth! :D

As for Love 911, if I remember correctly I did warn you it was a tiny bit melo. Or was that in my dreams? Nobody died though! At least no one significant to the story. I thought the ending was GREAT! So sweet & hot & sexy all at the same time! When he lifted her up and kissed her! Ahhh Perfect ending! I told my ahjussi that I wanted him to do that to me & he (jokingly) said he doesn't want to break his back! (that napun sæekia! Just you wait, I'm going to move to Seoul and I'm sure my Seo-jin will be happy to fulfill my wish and we'll see who has the last laugh!! haha)
Petty Romance, I know right? It was hilarious! I love it too. But boy did I hate what he did with her coffee! I mean, who DOES that??? I almost hated the guy, but I forced myself to put it aside.
Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed both! I kinda sorta suspected you would, although you're a fussy one when it comes to what you love, I've noticed. Now you should really watch Secret Love & Addicted next! ;)
As for what I've been watching! Well, not much. As usual I went to see if a certain movie was on youtube & got distracted by all the kiss videos ... so I spent a portion of the wee hours adding sexy kiss scene movies to my list! Ha!
Otherwise I watched April Snow. I liked it, but it was a bit draggy.
Last but not least, Golden Empire. I was a bit cynical about the hype surrounding it & was prepared to find fault, but I must say it's an extremely well acted drama. The characters are absolutely amazing! And yes, the script so far is a bit makjang, but very solid. There are very few plot holes that I can identify. Although I don't have the urge to marathon it, I'm having fun. The twists & turns are exciting & most of the characters are so morally corrupt it's both fascinating and appalling to behold.

Aigooo, look at you trying to find excuses to keep Shohei to yourself! Don't you know that sharing is caring, woman??? Arasseo! Keep him then, but forget about Yukata! He's mine! :)
And it's because you haven't seen the sweet side of Shun-san in Rich Man, Poor Woman Special (in the drama he had a lot of growing to do). Like I said, he's not the most attractive guy in the world, but I don't care. It's the heart that counts & erm ... whatever other skills he may have, if you get my drift!!! *naughty wink*.
Alright I haven't seen Lee Joon Hyuk so I won't dispute your atrocious claim that he's hotter than uri Go Soo in any way. For now. But there's no doubt in my mind that you're delusional, probably a little feverish after experiencing my Go Soo in Love 911! Hahaa
World that They Live In, yes, watch it! Our Binnie-ssi is so gonna tickle your ovaries!!! Omg, the hair! I just wanted to reach in the drama & push it back ... like ALL THE DAMN TIME!!! I think you'll like it.
BUT! Be prepared to fight the urge to bitch slap the female lead. I mean, seriously! Sometimes she was just sooo annoying and downright rude!!! #smh
No, no, let's watch City Hall together. It was suppose to be the drama I should be watching now, but I bowed to peer pressure and started Golden Empire instead. Don't put so much stock on the trailer! Half the time they're no good! I don't like the political theme either, but the same writer who wrote Lovers, wrote City Hall so I'm hoping this will have the same level of maturity & passion as Lovers did. What do you say, chinguya, give another go, huh?

Not quite boring, just draggy. Too many long pauses that weren't as atmospheric and emotional as I suspect the director intended them to be. They just served to bog the story down. Anyway, it wasn't bad. I gave it a 7. What did you think of it?
And what's brought on the sudden interest in romance?

I'm not surprised by what you wrote about Master's Sun. The same thing happened with The Greatest Love. It was so funny and the characters were very likeable, but the story development and pace was horrible! It's one of the reasons why I never get excited by the Hongs & their dramas. They're great at comedy, but not much else, in my opinion. But I guess when you can do good comedy, you can get away with a lot. I may watch Master's Sun one day, but I'm not in any rush.
LOL, how many dramas are you watching? And which?
I can only focus on one drama at a time as well. I've tried watching 2 dramas at the same time but my attention span is just too short, and usually it becomes burdensome trying to remember all the plot lines and the characters etc.
Right now I'm watching Golden Empire. It's pretty good.

Hehe thx! I get really tired of all the cheezy high school romances so it's nice to see something mature & adult from time to time! I already have the drama on my list so I'll try to prioritize it in the coming months. Cheers! :)

Don't I know the feeling. I've literally created a monster on my ptw list. It now has over 400 titles long. I keep telling myself to stop adding stuff to it, but I can't help myself when I across a great sounding movie or drama.
But I don't see anything on your currently watching list though...
What are you watching?
After Golden Empire I plan to pick up Dog & Wolf, which I see is among your top 5. I'll finally get a chance to meet your Junki! ;)

Bunny, sorry for the late reply.
I don't mind sex, I just don't usually watch shows with strong homosexual themes. But it is not a conviction set in stone. For a good story, good acting, and especially if I like the actors, I'll watch pretty anything. That's why I said I was on the fence. I'm leaning more toward watching it at some point, rather than not watching it at all.
I'm on ep 11 of Golden Empire. So far so good. Have you seen it?

Hehe ... I don't think a wife would be as tolerant of your drama addiction if she isn't addicted herself. You know us women & our moods! lol
Anyway, I couldn't figure out which language 'ah-ne' belongs to. Arabic maybe?
I really miss London! I wanna move back, but I'm tied up here. Ah well, guess I'll just have to make do with just visiting regularly. :)
I really like A Dirty Carnival. Great cautionary tale! Let me know how you find it!
I plan to watch That Winter, the Wind Blows soon. Jo In-sung is also the male lead here.
Who are some of your favourite actresses? Aside from Lee Min-jung, of course. lol

Hey Jessy, what are you watching and enjoying now? Why did you put A Gentleman's Dignity on hold? Didn't like it?
And what about Master's Sun? I'm still on the fence about that drama, but a lot of people seemed to have liked it so maybe I'll give it a go just to see what all the fuss is about.

Don't worry about my tastes too much. They're not set in stone & are often heavily reliant on my mood so just recommend and let me decide for myself. Moreover, it's only with dramas that I'm a little picky. Movies are free for all. I'll look into those Daniel Wu recs, but one thing's for sure he looks damn good on your profile!!! hehe
By the way I've been meaning to mention that Lee Joon Hyuk (I don't know him, haven't seen him in anything) bears a striking resemblance to Go Soo in that pic on your profile. Very nice. What's he in?
As for talking in the harem. LOL you're right! There will be no talking in the harem! *wink*wink* So no sharing of Gong Yoo huh? That hurts, but ok, you can have LMO all to yourself, if I can keep LBH all to myself. After all I found him first. Deal? I'm willing to share Yoo Ji-tæ. Trust me, he's good in the sack. Just watch Secret Love! ;)
I'm trying to think of which Japanese actor I'd like to have in my harem. Hmmm ... maybe Oguri Shun? He's ugly, but very manly. He looks like he'd know what he's doing! ;) Or Takenouchi Yukato? Hmm, I still don't know him that well ... so maybe not. Omo, omo, omo ... I completely forgot about my dear Kimura Takuya! He's kinda skinny though, too skinny maybe, so probably not quite harem material. Maybe we can share Shohei? He seems like a wicked kisser!
Honestly if anyone bashes my Seo-jin I'll find them and kill them. My Seo-jin is just the perfect man. God's gift to me! (but of course we won't make him know that!!! Men shouldn't feel too good about themselves!). ::evil grin::..
Anyway, aside from our crazy harem negotiations, what are you watching??? Anything fun?

Hey Raincat, my chingu! :)
No worries. I love reading your analysis of films so I thought Dunes would be a great film to discuss with you. Watch it whenever you can. But just to make one thing clear, it's not a very 'heavy' film in any way. It's rather philosophical. The film relies heavily on metaphors in its dialogue and setting, but the story is generally free of melodrama and overbearing emotions.
I still haven't gotten around to rewatching Hotel Venus. It's not because I didn't enjoy it. Just that there are too many distractions sometimes. But I promise to rewatch soon & give you my feedback.
I see you're watching & enjoying Over the Rainbow drama. I've come across it several times, but it didn't really grab my interest. I'm not that much into musically themed dramas. I'll wait for your review. By the way, have you seen the film of the same name? I did and I had to drop it. It was so boring.
Anyway, about that pic. Noooooo, I don't know him! Who is he? At first I thought it was Vaness Wu, but I'm not sure. He does have some amazingly nice biceps! ;p

Yes, Seo Yoon is under a lot of pressure, but I want to see more vulnerability from her. We get glimpse and pieces, but not enough to really draw me in. She's too mechanical as is, utilizing the same emotions for every scenario which makes her acting less convincing for me. On the other hand (and this is completely disregarding my affection for the actor) Tæ-joo faces the same uphill battles, but manages to pull me in with the variedness of his personality. You see a stark difference in his actions and expressions when he's with his family, colleagues, business partners, enemies. Makes it more interesting to watch because he appears human & real. Anyway, I'm about to start ep 12 and the guy is dynamite. His character arc, his transformation is fascinating & shocking. You'll know what I mean when you get to this point.
As for Seol Hee I've gotten used to her now, but the way in which she delivers her lines, esp when she's flirting with Tæ-joo, is still a little annoying to me. But I like her.
I know the type of corporate warfare & executive psychopathy shown here do exist out in the real world, but I find all the backstabbings among the family members a bit makjang & far-fetched. Greed is a strong motivator, but how many times can you switch allegiance? Have this family no affection whatsoever for each other, beyond their own greed? Allegiances are switched in every episode. What do you think? Is it believable for you?
Anyway, I'm enjoying the show, though I don't feel compelled in any way to marathon it. But I love shows with very intense and strong themes. Couple that with layered, multi-dimensional characters & I'm totally on board. Atm, GE is hovering somewhere between an 8 & a 9 for me. You're just 7 eps in, but how would you rate so far?
